## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Website Preflight Intelligence – HTTP, SEO, Tech & Security

Fast, low-cost **website preflight intelligence** for AI agents, crawlers, SEO workflows, QA systems, lead enrichment, and automation.

Give the Actor one or many public website URLs or domains. It performs lightweight HTTP checks and returns one structured report per website.

### What it checks

- HTTP status and redirect chain
- Final URL and HTTPS usage
- Response time
- Content type and response size
- Page title and meta description
- Canonical URL, H1, language, and robots meta
- robots.txt availability
- Sitemap discovery and lightweight URL-count estimates
- Common security headers
- Server and X-Powered-By headers
- Website technology signals
- Contact page and About page discovery
- Public emails and phone links visible on the homepage
- Social profile links
- JSON-LD schema types

### Technology signals

The Actor can identify common website and infrastructure hints such as:

- WordPress
- Shopify
- Webflow
- Wix
- Squarespace
- Next.js
- Nuxt
- HubSpot
- Cloudflare
- Vercel
- Netlify
- Google Tag Manager
- Google Analytics

Technology detection is heuristic and should be treated as a signal, not a guarantee.

### Common use cases

- Website preflight checks
- HTTP status checker
- Redirect checker
- Website metadata extraction
- SEO metadata checks
- robots.txt checker
- Sitemap checker
- Security-header inspection
- Website technology detection
- Website health intelligence
- AI-agent preprocessing
- Lead-generation and CRM enrichment
- Deciding whether a site needs deeper crawling or browser rendering

### Why use it

This Actor is designed as a cheap machine-to-machine first pass before a more expensive browser, crawler, enrichment service, or AI agent.

It uses direct HTTP requests with bounded response reads and avoids heavyweight browser rendering, residential proxies, external LLM calls, and paid third-party APIs.

### Example input

```json
{
  "websites": [
    "https://apify.com",
    "stripe.com"
  ],
  "requestTimeoutSecs": 12,
  "maxConcurrency": 20,
  "checkRobotsTxt": true,
  "checkSitemap": true
}
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "requestedUrl": "https://example.com/",
  "domain": "example.com",
  "finalUrl": "https://example.com/",
  "status": "success",
  "httpStatus": 200,
  "responseTimeMs": 184,
  "https": true,
  "title": "Example Company",
  "metaDescription": "Example website",
  "canonicalUrl": "https://example.com/",
  "contactPage": "https://example.com/contact",
  "aboutPage": "https://example.com/about",
  "emails": ["hello@example.com"],
  "technologies": ["Cloudflare"],
  "robotsTxt": {
    "exists": true,
    "status": 200
  },
  "sitemap": {
    "exists": true,
    "status": 200
  },
  "error": null
}
```

### Security

The Actor accepts public HTTP and HTTPS targets only. It resolves hostnames and rejects loopback, private, link-local, and reserved network addresses before requests and before following redirects.

### Limitations

- JavaScript-rendered content is not executed.
- Some websites block automated HTTP requests or vary responses by region.
- Technology detection is heuristic.
- Missing contact details mean they were not visible in the inspected static HTML.
- Sitemap URL counts are lightweight estimates, not a full crawl.

### Output

One structured website-intelligence report is written to the default dataset for every submitted website, including blocked or failed targets. The output is easy to consume from APIs, MCP tools, n8n, Make, Zapier, crawlers, and custom AI-agent pipelines.

# Actor input Schema

## `websites` (type: `array`):

Public website URLs or domains to inspect.

## `requestTimeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Maximum time allowed for each HTTP request.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of websites inspected in parallel.

## `checkRobotsTxt` (type: `boolean`):

Fetch and summarize the site's public robots.txt file.

## `checkSitemap` (type: `boolean`):

Check a sitemap declared in robots.txt or the conventional /sitemap.xml location.

## `maxHtmlBytes` (type: `integer`):

Maximum response-body bytes read from the main page. Larger bodies are truncated.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("70peterson/web-preflight-intelligence").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
