## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Asia Trending Searches – Google Trends, Baidu & Douyin

**What is Asia searching for right now?** This Actor collects the live trending lists of
**Google Trends** in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and 9 more regions,
plus mainland China's **Baidu hot search** and **Douyin (Chinese TikTok) hot list**,
in **one run and one consistent format**.

It also tells you **which keywords are trending in several places at once**
(for example, the same topic rising in Hong Kong, Taiwan and on Baidu), which is usually
the first sign that a story is going regional.

### Why use it

- **One run, many markets.** No need to combine separate scrapers for each country and platform.
- **Same fields for every platform**, ready for spreadsheets, dashboards or AI pipelines.
- **Cross-market signal:** `alsoTrendingIn` lists the other regions/platforms where the keyword is trending.
- **Fast and light.** Reads public trending feeds and pages directly (no browser), usually finishes in seconds.
- **No login, no accounts.** Public data only.

### Use cases

- Content and social media teams planning posts around what is trending in Asian markets
- Marketers and e-commerce sellers spotting demand early in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan or China
- Media monitoring and newsletters that cover Asia
- Feeding daily trend data into dashboards or LLM summaries (schedule it daily on Apify)

### Input

| Field | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| `platforms` | `google_trends`, `baidu`, `douyin` | all three |
| `googleRegions` | HK, TW, JP, KR, SG, MY, TH, VN, ID, PH, IN, AU, US, GB | HK, TW, JP, KR, SG |
| `maxItemsPerSource` | Max keywords per platform/region (1–50) | 20 |
| `includeNews` | Include related news headlines and links | true |

```json
{
  "platforms": ["google_trends", "baidu", "douyin"],
  "googleRegions": ["HK", "TW", "JP"],
  "maxItemsPerSource": 20,
  "includeNews": true
}
```

### Output

One dataset item per trending keyword:

```json
{
  "platform": "Google Trends",
  "platformId": "google_trends",
  "region": "HK",
  "regionName": "Hong Kong",
  "rank": 1,
  "keyword": "颱風",
  "trafficLabel": "20K+",
  "trafficEstimate": 20000,
  "startedAt": "2026-10-30T22:00:00+00:00",
  "url": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=HK&q=%E9%A2%B1%E9%A2%A8",
  "imageUrl": "https://…",
  "news": [{ "title": "…", "url": "https://…", "source": "…" }],
  "alsoTrendingIn": ["TW · Google Trends", "CN · Baidu"],
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-31T00:05:12+00:00"
}
```

A `SUMMARY` record in the key-value store lists which sources succeeded or failed and the keywords
trending in more than one place.

**About the numbers:** `trafficEstimate` is the platform's own indicator and is not comparable across
platforms (Google shows approximate searches, Baidu and Douyin show their own heat score).

### Pricing

Pay per result, no subscription:

| | Price |
|---|---|
| Each trending keyword returned | **$2.00 per 1,000 results** ($0.002 each) |
| Each run | $0.002 |

A typical run with the default settings (5 Google regions + Baidu + Douyin) returns about 90 keywords,
so it costs about **$0.18** and finishes in a few seconds. Running it once a day costs about $5.50 a month.
Platform usage is included in the price. Set a maximum cost per run in the run options if you want a hard limit.

### Tips

- Schedule the Actor (for example every morning) and connect the dataset to Google Sheets, Slack or a webhook.
- Google Trends lists change through the day; run several times a day if you track fast-moving news.

### Limitations

- Google Trends' public feed returns about the top 10 keywords per region. Baidu and Douyin return up to
  `maxItemsPerSource` keywords (their boards hold about 50).
- Baidu and Douyin may occasionally refuse requests from some server locations. If one source fails, the
  run still returns the others and reports the failure in the log and `SUMMARY`.
- If a platform changes its page or feed, that source may stop working until the Actor is updated.

### Data and compliance

The Actor reads only publicly available trending lists, without logging in, and does not collect personal
data. You are responsible for using the results in line with the source platforms' terms and the laws
that apply to you.

# Actor input Schema

## `platforms` (type: `array`):

Which trending lists to fetch. Baidu and Douyin are mainland China's search and short-video hot lists.

## `googleRegions` (type: `array`):

Regions for Google Trends. Each region returns about 10 keywords trending right now.

## `maxItemsPerSource` (type: `integer`):

Upper limit of trending keywords per platform and region. You are charged per keyword returned.

## `includeNews` (type: `boolean`):

Add the news headlines and links that the platform shows for each trend (where available).

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "platforms": [
    "google_trends",
    "baidu",
    "douyin"
  ],
  "googleRegions": [
    "HK",
    "TW",
    "JP",
    "KR",
    "SG"
  ],
  "maxItemsPerSource": 20,
  "includeNews": true
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One item per trending keyword: platform, region, rank, keyword, traffic, related news and the other regions/platforms where it is also trending.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Which sources succeeded or failed, and the keywords trending in more than one place.
