## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## China Trending Topics — Weibo, Douyin, Baidu Hot Search

Real-time trending topics from China's top five platforms in one dataset: Weibo hot search (微博热搜), Douyin hot list (抖音热榜), Baidu hot search (百度热搜), Toutiao hot board (头条热榜) and Bilibili hot words (B站热搜). Each row has rank, title, heat score, label and link. No login or cookies. $2 per 1,000 topics.

Track what China is talking about, right now, in one dataset. This China trending topics scraper/API captures the live hot lists of the five biggest Chinese platforms: **Weibo hot search (微博热搜)**, **Douyin hot list (抖音热榜)**, **Baidu hot search (百度热搜)**, **Toutiao hot board (头条热榜)** and **Bilibili hot words (B站热搜)**. Every topic comes back as one clean row with the same fields on every platform: rank, title, heat score, label, category and link. Use it for brand monitoring in China, market research, news and trend detection, social listening, cross-border e-commerce product discovery, or as a real-time context tool for AI agents. Schedule it hourly to build a ranking history. Uses the platforms' own public hot-list data. No login, no cookies, nothing to configure.

### What data does it return?

Every run outputs clean, schema-validated rows like these:

| platform | rank | title | heatScore | label | url |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
30 | 7809543 | new | https://www.baidu.com/s?wd=… |
| toutiao | 1 | 丹麦男子卖中国包子日赚超5万元 | 10993387 | | https://www.toutiao.com/trending/7697624084205436991/ |
| bilibili | 1 | 米勒管泽元评S赛Top20 | 5800552 | | https://search.bilibili.com/all?keyword=… |

### How much does it cost?

Transparent pay-per-event pricing — you only pay for what you get, and the
actor **always respects your run budget**: set a maximum total charge and it
stops cleanly at the cap instead of overrunning.

| Event | Price | Charged | Worked example |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `topic-result` | $0.002 | per trending topic delivered | All 5 boards × 50 topics = 250 topics = $0.50. Weibo only, top 50 = $0.10. Hourly Weibo top 10 for a month ≈ 7,200 topics = $14.40 |
| `apify-actor-start` | $0.00005 | per run per GB of memory (platform start fee) | One run at up to 1 GB = $0.00005 (charged as one event) |

### Input options

| Field | Type | Required | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `platforms` | array | no | `["weibo","douyin","baidu","toutiao","bilibili"]` | Which hot lists to capture. Default: all five (weibo, douyin, baidu, toutiao, bilibili). |
| `maxTopicsPerPlatform` | integer | no | `50` | Top N topics from each board (boards hold ~50). You pay per topic: 5 platforms × 50 = 250 topics = $0.50. |
| `keywords` | array | no | `[]` | Only keep topics whose title or description contains one of these words (Chinese or English, case-insensitive), e.g. 'iPhone', '比亚迪'. Empty = keep all. Filtered-out topics are never charged. |

### Limits & honest notes

- Topics are returned in their original language (mostly Simplified Chinese). Titles are not machine-translated, so pass them to your own translator or LLM if needed.
- Each board holds roughly 50 topics at a time. maxTopicsPerPlatform above the board size returns what the board has.
- Weibo ads are removed and the pinned/government slots on Weibo, Douyin, Baidu and Toutiao are excluded, so `rank` is the organic position (1 = top).
- heatScore is each platform's own popularity metric. Compare ranks across platforms, not raw heat values.
- `label` is the platform's own badge: English for Douyin and Baidu (new, hot…), Weibo's own characters (新/热/沸/爆), Toutiao's own tags (hot, new…), and null on Bilibili.
- Topics, ranks and heat only. No user accounts, profiles or personal data are collected.
- If one platform is temporarily unavailable it is skipped and never charged; the other boards are still delivered.
- Respects your run budget: set a maximum total charge and the actor stops cleanly at the cap.
