## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Chrome Web Store Extensions Scraper: Users, Ratings, Versions

Scrape Chrome Web Store extensions from category pages or extension IDs: users, rating, rating count, category, website, version, manifest version, permissions, publish date, plus developer, last updated, size, languages and support links from the detail page. $1.00 per 1,000 extensions.

**A Chrome Web Store scraper for extension market data, with no browser and no API key.** Point it at Chrome Web Store category pages (Workflow & Planning, Shopping, Developer Tools, Privacy…) or paste extension IDs and store URLs, and get one clean row per extension: **name, user count, star rating and rating count, category, the extension's website, version, manifest version (MV2/MV3), requested permissions and host permissions**, first publish date and icon. Switch on detail pages (or give IDs) to add the **developer (publisher) name, full description, last updated date, size, supported languages, support and privacy-policy links, minimum Chrome version and screenshots**. Use it for **browser-extension market research**, competitor and category tracking, finding fast-growing or abandoned extensions, permission and security audits of the extensions your company allows, lead lists of extension publishers by their websites, and datasets for analysis or AI agents. **$1.00 per 1,000 extensions**, with no compute bill on top; unknown IDs and other problems return a free status row instead of failing.

### What data does it return?

Every run outputs clean, schema-validated rows like these:

| name | users | rating | category | version | developer |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Adobe Acrobat: PDF edit, convert, sign tools | 349000000 | 4.38 | productivity/workflow | 26.10.1.0 | Adobe Inc. |
| Chrome Remote Desktop | 41000000 | 3.78 | productivity/workflow | 2.1 | Chrome Remote Desktop Release Managers |
| Adblock Plus - free ad blocker | 40000000 | 3.9 | productivity/workflow | 4.48.0 | eyeo GmbH |

### How much does it cost?

Transparent pay-per-event pricing — you only pay for what you get, and the
actor **always respects your run budget**: set a maximum total charge and it
stops cleanly at the cap instead of overrunning.

| Event | Price | Charged | Worked example |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `extension` | $0.001 | per extension row | 300 extensions from 10 categories = $0.30 |
| `apify-actor-start` | $0.00005 | per run per GB of memory (platform start fee) | One run at 512 MB = $0.00005 |

### Input options

| Field | Type | Required | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `categoryUrls` | array | no | — | Chrome Web Store category pages, e.g. https://chromewebstore.google.com/category/extensions/productivity/workflow or https://chromewebstore.google.com/category/extensions/lifestyle/shopping. Each page lists about 30 extensions. |
| `extensions` | array | no | — | Extension IDs (32 letters, e.g. ddkjiahejlhfcafbddmgiahcphecmpfh) or store detail URLs. These are always read from the detail page, with every field filled. |
| `fetchDetails` | boolean | no | `false` | Also open each category result's detail page to add developer, description, last updated, size, languages, support and privacy links and screenshots. One extra page per extension (slower), same price. |
| `maxItems` | integer | no | `200` | Stop after this many extensions. Each extension is one charged row. |

### Limits & honest notes

- **Responsible use:** you are responsible for using the data in line with Google's terms and with data-protection law where you are. Developer names are public publisher names; developer e-mail addresses are never collected. This actor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Google or the Chrome Web Store.
- The Chrome Web Store's robots.txt disallows its search and review pages, so there is no keyword search and no review scraping. Discovery is by category pages (about 30 extensions each) and extension IDs. robots.txt is checked before every page.
- There is no login, no proxies and no CAPTCHA solving; it sends an honest user agent (ActorForge-ChromeWebStore) and waits at least 1.5 s between pages. Google's own cookie-consent hop for European visitors is followed automatically; no cookies are kept.
- User counts are the store's rounded figures (e.g. 22,000,000+ shows as 22000000). Permissions come from the published manifest.
- If the store answers with a block, the run stops at once, keeps the extensions already delivered and adds a free status row.
- Respects your run budget: set a maximum total charge and the run stops cleanly at the cap, with nothing charged twice.
