## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Event Scraper — Luma Tech, AI & Startup Events by City

Scrape upcoming events from Luma (lu.ma) only: tech, AI, crypto and startup events by city, category or keyword. Dates, venue, ticket price, free/sold-out, spots left, guest count, organiser and description. No login. $1.50 per 1,000 events.

**Scrape upcoming events from Luma (lu.ma / luma.com) only: it does not cover Eventbrite, Meetup, Facebook Events or other event sites.** Luma is the platform behind most tech, AI, startup and crypto meetups, so this is the event scraper for finding those events as clean structured data. Filter by **city** (London, New York, San Francisco, Berlin, Singapore and ~90 more), **category** (tech and AI by default; also crypto, climate, food, arts, running, wellness…), **keyword** ('hackathon', 'founders') or any **latitude/longitude**. Each row has the event name, start/end time and timezone, venue and city, online/in-person, **ticket price, free or paid, sold-out status, spots remaining, approval required, guest count**, organiser and link, plus the **full description and category tags** (on by default). No login or cookies. Use it for event-lead prospecting, developer-relations and community outreach, sponsorship research, event newsletters and local-scene calendars, or as an events tool for AI agents. Built for privacy: individual hosts and guests are never returned (counts only), and hidden addresses stay hidden. **$1.50 per 1,000 events.**

### What data does it return?

Every run outputs clean, schema-validated rows like these:

| name | startAt | city | isFree | priceMin | guestCount | url |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AI For NYC Hackathon | 2026-10-19T22:30:00.000Z | Queens | true | | 64 | https://luma.com/3jtm4813 |
| The Human Edge: A Founders Salon for the Age of AI | 2026-10-20T14:00:00.000Z | New York | false | 25 | 10 | https://luma.com/d0sflqei |
| GTM Intelligence: AI Night with Ramp + MeritFirst | 2026-10-20T21:30:00.000Z | New York | true | | 0 | https://luma.com/ramp-meritfirst-gtm-ai |

### How much does it cost?

Transparent pay-per-event pricing — you only pay for what you get, and the
actor **always respects your run budget**: set a maximum total charge and it
stops cleanly at the cap instead of overrunning.

| Event | Price | Charged | Worked example |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `event-result` | $0.0015 | per event delivered (description and categories included at no extra cost) | 100 events = $0.15; 1,000 events = $1.50 |
| `apify-actor-start` | $0.00005 | per run per GB of memory (platform start fee) | One run at up to 1 GB = $0.00005 (charged as one event) |

### Input options

| Field | Type | Required | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `cities` | array | no | `[]` | Luma discover cities, e.g. 'London', 'New York', 'San Francisco', 'Berlin', 'Singapore' (~90 supported; unknown names are listed in the log). For anywhere else use latitude/longitude. |
| `categories` | array | no | `["tech","ai"]` | Luma categories: ai, tech, crypto, climate, food, arts, books, games, family, fitness, wellness, running. Default: tech and ai. Clear the list for all categories. |
| `searchQuery` | string | no | — | Search event names, e.g. 'hackathon', 'founders', 'web3'. Without a city or coordinates, Luma decides the area (often near the server), so add a city for predictable results. |
| `latitude` | number | no | — | Search near a point instead of (or as well as) a named city. Use with longitude. |
| `longitude` | number | no | — | Use with latitude. |
| `freeOnly` | boolean | no | `false` | Skip paid events. Skipped events are not charged. |
| `maxEvents` | integer | no | `200` | Stop after this many events (across all cities and categories). |
| `includeDetails` | boolean | no | `true` | Fetch each event's page for its full description and category tags. On by default; turn off for faster runs (one request less per event). Same price either way. |

### Limits & honest notes

- Luma only. Events on Eventbrite, Meetup, Facebook or other platforms are not included unless they are also listed on Luma.
- Returns upcoming public events that appear in Luma's discover feeds. Private, invite-only and unlisted events are not included.
- City names must be Luma discover cities (~90 worldwide); the run log shows examples of valid names. Anywhere else, use latitude/longitude.
- Without a city or coordinates, Luma picks events near the server's location, so set a location unless you're running a keyword search.
- Host and guest identities are never returned, only counts. Organiser names come only from organisation calendars, never personal ones. Exact addresses and coordinates are omitted when the organiser hides them.
- Ticket price is the cheapest and most expensive public ticket in major currency units (e.g. 25 = $25.00). Flexible 'pay what you want' tickets report their minimum.
- Duplicate events across cities and categories are removed and never charged twice. Events skipped by the free-only filter are not charged.
- Respects your run budget: set a maximum total charge and the actor stops cleanly at the cap.
