## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Medium Scraper: Articles by Author, Publication or Tag (RSS)

Latest Medium articles for any author, publication or tag from Medium's official RSS feeds: title, author, date, tags, image, link, and full article text and word count where the feed includes it. Keyword and date filters. No login. $1 per 1,000 articles.

**A Medium scraper that uses Medium's own RSS feeds.** Give it **tags, authors or publications** (including publications on their own domain) and get one clean row per story: **title, author, publication date and last update, tags, cover image, clean link** (tracking parameters removed) and a snippet. For author and publication feeds you also get the **full article as plain text** (and optionally HTML) with **word count and reading time**. Filter by keyword and date. Use it for **content research and monitoring**, tracking competitors' engineering blogs, newsletter and digest curation, topic trend analysis and feeding your own reader or LLM pipeline. **$1 per 1,000 articles**, with no compute bill on top; problems return a free status row instead of failing.

### What data does it return?

Every run outputs clean, schema-validated rows like these:

| title | author | feed | hasFullContent | readingTimeMinutes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Netflix Conductor: The Next Chapter | Netflix Technology Blog | netflixtechblog.com | true | 20 |
| The MCP Tool We Deleted: Generic Query Tools vs Typed Tools | | artificial-intelligence | false | |
| Measuring the Impact of Personalized Recommendations | Netflix Technology Blog | netflixtechblog.com | true | 10 |

### How much does it cost?

Transparent pay-per-event pricing — you only pay for what you get, and the
actor **always respects your run budget**: set a maximum total charge and it
stops cleanly at the cap instead of overrunning.

| Event | Price | Charged | Worked example |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `article` | $0.001 | per article row | 1,000 articles = $1.00 (full text included when the feed has it) |
| `apify-actor-start` | $0.00005 | per run per GB of memory (platform start fee) | One run at 256 MB = $0.00005 |

### Input options

| Field | Type | Required | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `tags` | array | no | — | Medium tags, e.g. artificial-intelligence, python, startup, or medium.com/tag/... URLs. Tag feeds give the 10 newest stories with a snippet. |
| `authors` | array | no | — | Medium usernames (@name), profile URLs or name.medium.com addresses. Author feeds include the full article text. |
| `publications` | array | no | — | Publication slugs (towards-data-science, better-programming), medium.com/\<publication> URLs, or custom domains of Medium publications (netflixtechblog.com). |
| `includeFullText` | boolean | no | `true` | Return the article as plain text when the feed contains it (author and publication feeds). |
| `includeHtml` | boolean | no | `false` | Also return the article HTML from the feed. |
| `keyword` | string | no | — | Optional: keep only articles whose title, text or tags contain this word or phrase. |
| `publishedAfter` | string | no | — | Optional date (YYYY-MM-DD). |
| `maxItems` | integer | no | `500` | Upper limit on articles for the whole run. |

### Limits & honest notes

- **Responsible use:** articles are their authors' copyright. Use the data for research, monitoring, search and analysis, link back to the original story, and do not republish full articles without permission. This actor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by A Medium Corporation.
- It reads only Medium's public RSS feeds (robots.txt allows /feed) and never opens article pages, at most one feed every 1.5 s, with an honest user agent (ActorForge-Medium). There is no login, no cookies, no proxies and no paywall bypass: member-only stories appear with the snippet Medium puts in the feed.
- Each feed lists about the 10 most recent stories, so this is a monitor for new posts, not a back-catalogue export; schedule it to build history. Tag feeds carry snippets only; author and publication feeds carry the full text. Clap and response counts are not in the feeds.
- If Medium answers with a block or challenge page, the run stops, keeps the articles already delivered and adds a free status row. Respects your run budget: set a maximum total charge and the run stops cleanly at the cap. Unknown feeds return a free status row.
