## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Reed Jobs Scraper: UK Jobs, Salaries & Recruiters (Reed.co.uk)

Scrape UK jobs from Reed.co.uk by keyword and location: title, employer or agency, salary range and period, permanent/contract/temp, full-/part-time, remote/hybrid, posted and expiry dates, link, snippet, and optional full description, skills and sector. No browser. $0.50 per 1,000 jobs.

**A Reed scraper for UK jobs, with clean salary data and no browser.** Reed.co.uk is one of the UK's biggest job boards, with jobs from employers and recruitment agencies in every sector. Give it **keywords** (developer, nurse, accountant…) and **UK locations** with a radius, and get one clean row per job: **title, employer or agency** (and which of the two posted it), **location and county**, **salary minimum and maximum with the period** (per year, day or hour), **permanent, contract or temporary**, **full-time or part-time**, **remote, hybrid or on-site**, posted, updated and expiry dates, easy-apply and UK-eligibility flags, the Reed link and any external apply link, a description snippet, and optionally the **full description, skills, sector and region** from the job page. Filter by salary, contract type, hours, posting date, direct employers only and working option. Every keyword runs in every location, up to 100 pages each. Use it for **UK job market and salary research**, recruiting and candidate sourcing, **recruitment agency and hiring-company lead lists**, job alerts and job-board aggregation. **$0.50 per 1,000 jobs**, with no compute bill on top; problems return a free status row instead of failing.

### What data does it return?

Every run outputs clean, schema-validated rows like these:

| title | company | employerType | location | salaryMin | salaryPeriod |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Senior Engineer (Agentic Developer) | Reed.co.uk | direct-employer | London | 95000 | year |
| Lead Developer | Circle Recruitment | recruitment-agency | London | 600 | day |
| .NET Developer | Noir | recruitment-agency | London | 70000 | year |

### How much does it cost?

Transparent pay-per-event pricing — you only pay for what you get, and the
actor **always respects your run budget**: set a maximum total charge and it
stops cleanly at the cap instead of overrunning.

| Event | Price | Charged | Worked example |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `job-result` | $0.0005 | per job row | 1,000 jobs = $0.50 (with or without full descriptions) |
| `apify-actor-start` | $0.00005 | per run per GB of memory (platform start fee) | One run at 256 MB = $0.00005 |

### Input options

| Field | Type | Required | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `keywords` | array | no | — | Job titles or skills, e.g. developer, nurse, accountant, warehouse operative. One search per keyword. Leave empty to list all jobs for the locations below. |
| `locations` | array | no | — | UK towns, cities, counties or postcodes, e.g. London, Manchester, Leeds, Kent. Every keyword is searched in every location. Leave empty for the whole UK. |
| `proximityMiles` | integer | no | `10` | Search radius around each location (Reed's default is 10 miles). |
| `salaryFrom` | integer | no | — | Only jobs paying at least this (annual, or Reed's equivalent for daily/hourly rates). |
| `salaryTo` | integer | no | — | Only jobs paying up to this. |
| `contractTypes` | array | no | `[]` | Only these contract types. Empty = all. |
| `hours` | array | no | `[]` | Only full-time and/or part-time jobs. Empty = all. |
| `postedWithin` | string | no | `"anytime"` | Only jobs posted in this window. |
| `directEmployersOnly` | boolean | no | `false` | Hide jobs posted by recruitment agencies. |
| `workingOptions` | array | no | `[]` | Keep only jobs with these working options (filtered by the actor). Empty = all. |
| `includeDescription` | boolean | no | `false` | Open each job page for the full description, skills, sector, region and Reed's salary text (one extra page per job, so runs are slower). Phone numbers and e-mail addresses are removed. |
| `maxPagesPerSearch` | integer | no | `10` | Results pages per keyword × location (25 jobs each). |
| `maxItems` | integer | no | `200` | Stop after this many jobs in total. Each job is one charged row. |

### Limits & honest notes

- **Responsible use:** you are responsible for using the data in line with Reed's terms and with UK data-protection law (UK GDPR). This actor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Reed.co.uk or Reed Specialist Recruitment.
- It reads only Reed's public search and job pages, which Reed's robots.txt allows for general crawlers, and checks robots.txt before every page (it never uses sort parameters, /api/ or tracking links, which are disallowed). There is no login, no cookies, no proxies and no CAPTCHA solving; it sends an honest user agent (ActorForge-Reed) and waits at least 1.5 s between pages.
- Recruiter contact details are never collected, and phone numbers and e-mail addresses are removed from descriptions. Employer and agency names are business data.
- Search pages give a description snippet; the full description, skills and sector need one extra page per job (turn on Include full description).
- If Reed answers with a block or a challenge, the run stops at once, keeps the jobs already delivered and adds a free status row. Respects your run budget: set a maximum total charge and the run stops cleanly at the cap. A run with no results returns one free status row.
