## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## YC Startup Jobs — Y Combinator Company Job Listings

Open jobs at about 730 Y Combinator startups, read from their public Ashby, Greenhouse and Lever job boards. Filter by YC batch (W24, S25…), industry, keyword, location and remote. Every row carries the YC batch, team size and HQ. $1.50 per 1,000 jobs.

**Every open role at Y Combinator startups, in one dataset.** This actor scans about **730 YC companies** that hire through Ashby, Greenhouse or Lever and reads their **public job-board feeds** (the same JSON their careers pages load). You get one clean row per job with the company's **YC batch, team size, HQ and industry** already attached, so you can sort by batch, size or sector without a second lookup.

- **Filter by YC batch**: `W24`, `S25`, `X25` (spring), `F24` (fall), `"Winter 2024"`, or a bare year such as `2024` for every batch that year.
- **Filter by job**: keywords on title, department and team, excluded words, location or country, remote only, posted within N days.
- **Salary** where the company publishes it in structured form (common on Ashby).

Use it for job hunting at early-stage startups, recruiting and sourcing research, hiring-signal sales prospecting ("which YC W24 companies are hiring engineers?"), or tracking startup hiring trends. Schedule it daily and feed Sheets, Slack, n8n or Zapier.

**$1.50 per 1,000 jobs.** Filtered-out jobs are never charged.

#### Where the data comes from

Only the companies' own public ATS job-board APIs (Ashby, Greenhouse, Lever). The actor does not touch Work at a Startup, Wellfound or any login-only site, and it returns no recruiter names or personal contact details. The YC batch, team size and HQ come from the public YC company directory, captured when the index was built (2026-10-18).

*Y Combinator and YC are trademarks of Y Combinator Management, LLC. This actor is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Y Combinator.*

### What data does it return?

Every run outputs clean, schema-validated rows like these:

| title | companyName | ycBatch | companyTeamSize | companyIndustry | location | salaryText | postedAt | jobUrl |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Staff Software Engineer | Accord | Winter 2020 | 20 | B2B | San Francisco, CA | $170K - $225K | 2026-08-26 | https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/accord/5f8bd5d9-c96d-4861-bca0-fa1549baf5a9 |

| Head of Software Engineering | Adaptyv | Summer 2021 | 25 | Healthcare | Lausanne / Hybrid / Remote | | 2026-10-19 | https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/adaptyv/d2f42399-54b0-4262-bf85-d173cb21bbaf |

### How much does it cost?

Transparent pay-per-event pricing — you only pay for what you get, and the
actor **always respects your run budget**: set a maximum total charge and it
stops cleanly at the cap instead of overrunning.

| Event | Price | Charged | Worked example |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `job-result` | $0.0015 | per job posting delivered (description included at no extra cost) | 100 jobs = $0.15; 1,000 jobs = $1.50 (Wellfound scraper leader: $3.00 per 1,000) |
| `apify-actor-start` | $0.00005 | per run per GB of memory (platform start fee) | One run at 1 GB = $0.00005 |

### Input options

| Field | Type | Required | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `searchAllCompanies` | boolean | no | `true` | Always on for this listing: scan the built-in Y Combinator company index. |
| `ycOnly` | boolean | no | `true` | Always on for this listing: only companies with a YC batch. |
| `ycBatches` | array | no | `[]` | Optional YC batches to keep, e.g. W24, S25, X25 (spring), F24 (fall), "Winter 2024" or a bare year like 2024 (all seasons). Setting this implies Y Combinator companies only. |
| `industries` | array | no | `[]` | Optional YC industry filters (case-insensitive substring): B2B, Fintech, Healthcare, Consumer, Industrials, Education, Real Estate and Construction, Government. |
| `keywords` | array | no | `[]` | Keep jobs whose title, department or team contains any of these, e.g. 'engineer', 'data', 'product manager'. Empty = all jobs. |
| `excludeKeywords` | array | no | `[]` | Drop jobs whose title contains any of these, e.g. 'intern', 'senior'. |
| `locations` | array | no | `[]` | Keep jobs whose location or country contains any of these, e.g. 'London', 'United States', 'Remote'. Empty = anywhere. |
| `remoteOnly` | boolean | no | `false` | Only jobs marked remote by the employer. |
| `postedWithinDays` | integer | no | — | Only jobs first published in the last N days. Leave empty for all open jobs. |
| `maxJobs` | integer | no | `100` | Stop after this many jobs. You pay per job: 1,000 jobs = $1.50. Filtered-out jobs are never charged. |
| `includeDescription` | boolean | no | `false` | Add the full plain-text job description to each row (bigger rows, same price). |
| `includeCompanyProfile` | boolean | no | `true` | Always on for this listing: every job carries ycBatch, companyTeamSize and companyLocation. |

### Limits & honest notes

- Covers the YC companies in the built-in index that hire through Ashby, Greenhouse or Lever (about 730, verified 2026-10-18). YC companies on Workday, other ATS or a custom careers page are not included; use Career Site Jobs with their careers URL instead.
- YC batch, team size and HQ are taken from the index snapshot, not refreshed on every run. Job data is live on every run.
- Lists only currently open, publicly listed jobs, exactly what each company's careers page shows. Recruiter names and application-form fields are never returned.
- Salary is only returned where the employer publishes it in structured form; otherwise the salary fields are null.
- Keyword and location filters are case-insensitive substring matches. A full scan of every YC company with no filters reads about 730 job boards and takes a few minutes.
- Respects your run budget: set a maximum total charge and the run stops cleanly at the cap.
