## Pricing

from $0.60 / 1,000 per feed item returneds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS Feed Reader - RSS & Atom to JSON (bulk, auto-discovery)

> ✅ **Tested daily** with its default input (Apify's automated QA plus our own smoke test before every release).

**RSS feed reader and parser**: turn any number of RSS, Atom or JSON feeds into one clean, uniform dataset (JSON, CSV, Excel). Don't know the feed address? Paste the website URL and the Actor finds the feed link in the page. **$0.0009 per item**, no start fee.

### Use cases

- News and blog monitoring across dozens of sources in one scheduled run
- Feeding headlines into Google Sheets, Slack, Airtable, an LLM summary or a newsletter tool
- Podcast feeds: episode titles, dates and audio enclosure URLs
- Release notes, changelogs and status pages that publish a feed

### Features

- **RSS 0.9x/1.0/2.0, Atom and JSON Feed** in one Actor; every item gets the same fields
- **Auto-discovery** from `<link rel="alternate">` on a normal web page
- **Date filter** (`sinceDate`) and **keyword filter** — only new or relevant items reach your dataset
- Newest items first, capped per feed with `maxItemsPerFeed`
- Optional full article content as plain text (`includeContent`)
- Broken or missing feeds are reported per input, not silently skipped

### Output fields

`feedTitle`, `feedUrl`, `feedFormat`, `title`, `link`, `id`, `published`, `updated` (ISO 8601, UTC), `summary` (plain text), `categories`, `author`, `image`, `enclosures` (url, type, length) and optionally `content`.

```json
{
  "feedTitle": "Hacker News: Front Page", "feedFormat": "rss20",
  "title": "Show HN: ...", "link": "https://example.com/post",
  "published": "2026-10-23T09:12:00+00:00", "summary": "...", "categories": [], "enclosures": []
}
```

The key-value store record `OUTPUT` lists each feed with the number of items returned.

### Input

| Field | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `feeds` | – | Feed URLs or website URLs |
| `maxItemsPerFeed` | 50 | Newest N items per feed |
| `sinceDate` | – | Only items published after this date |
| `keywords` | – | Keep items whose title or summary contains one of these words |
| `includeContent` | false | Add full content as plain text |

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **$0.0009 per item returned.** No start fee; feeds that fail or return nothing cost nothing.

Tip: schedule the Actor hourly with `sinceDate` set by your integration, or keep `maxItemsPerFeed` low, so you only pay for fresh items.

### Notes

Feeds are public documents published by sites for exactly this purpose. Email addresses that some feeds put in the author field are stripped.

### Use with AI agents (MCP)

This Actor can be used as a tool by AI agents (Claude, Cursor, VS Code, other MCP clients) through the official [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations/mcp):

- Add only this Actor as a tool: `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=admirala/rss-atom-feed-reader` (sign in with OAuth or an Apify API token).
- Or connect `https://mcp.apify.com` and let the agent find it with `search-actors` (e.g. "rss feed"), read the input schema with `fetch-actor-details` and run it with `call-actor`.

Example input an agent can pass:

```json
{
  "feeds": [
    "https://hnrss.org/frontpage"
  ],
  "maxItemsPerFeed": 20
}
```

Cost per call: $0.0009 per item returned; empty or failing feeds are free. Results come back as dataset items (`get-dataset-items`).

### FAQ

**How do I convert an RSS feed to JSON or CSV?**
Paste the feed URL in `feeds`; every item gets the same fields and can be exported as JSON, CSV or Excel.

**I only have the website URL, not the feed.**
Paste the website URL; the feed is auto-discovered from `<link rel=alternate>`.

**Can I only get new items?**
Yes, use `sinceDate` and/or `keywords`, and schedule the Actor.

# Actor input Schema

## `feeds` (type: `array`):

RSS, Atom or JSON Feed URLs, or normal website URLs (the feed is auto-discovered from <link rel=alternate>). Example: \["https://hnrss.org/frontpage", "nasa.gov"].

## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Newest N items per feed (1-1000). Cost = $0.0009 per item returned.

## `sinceDate` (type: `string`):

Optional ISO date or datetime, e.g. '2026-10-01'. Only items published after it are returned; items without a date are kept.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Optional list of words; only items whose title or summary contains at least one of them (case-insensitive) are kept. Example: \["AI", "robotics"].

## `includeContent` (type: `boolean`):

true = add the full article content (content:encoded / Atom content) as plain text. Can be long.
