## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## B2B Reputation Opportunity Analyzer — BYO Data

**Filter documented business ratings from your own licensed data. No scraping of Google Maps, Yelp, or Trustpilot.**

Designed for agencies that already have lawfully reusable business rating records. Filter by industry, location, highest rating and minimum review count. A low rating does not imply a need for your services, business distress, or any buying intent.

### Supported sources in version 1.0

| Source | Status | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| User-uploaded CSV / JSON | Supported | Rights-cleared rating records uploaded through Apify |
| User-pasted JSON records | Supported | Same schema and rights requirements |
| Google Places API | Not connected | Terms restrict storage, exporting and attribution; no approved implementation |
| Yelp Places or Insights API | Not connected | Appropriate licensed plan and onward use permission not established |
| Trustpilot APIs / Data Solutions | Not connected | Suitable account, commercial license and data-rights terms not established |

This Actor never fetches ratings from any of those third-party platforms. You must confirm the right to process, store and export your own input data. The confirmation is not independent verification of your license.

### Inputs

- sector: case-insensitive substring matched to supplied sector values, e.g. bakery
- location: case-insensitive substring matched to supplied location, e.g. Austin
- maxRating: 0–5 inclusive (default 3)
- minReviewCount: integer 0 or greater (default 10)
- resultLimit: from 1 to 250 (default 50)
- dataRightsConfirmed: must be true
- businesses: JSON array with up to 2000 items, OR businessFileUrl: CSV/JSON file uploaded to an Apify key-value store (1 MiB maximum)
- inspectContacts: optional (default false); checks one homepage per provided website for a general contact-page link

CSV header:

```
businessName,sector,location,ratingSource,sourceUrl,rating,reviewCount,ratingDate,websiteUrl
```

Per-record required: businessName, sector, location, ratingSource, sourceUrl, rating, reviewCount.
ratingDate in YYYY-MM-DD and websiteUrl are optional. Missing dates and websites are returned as null, never guessed. Invalid dates cause that row to be discarded. HTTPS rating source URLs are mandatory. Country/city labels are never geocoded.

The CSV parser accepts UTF-8 and quoted commas or line breaks. The JSON file may be an array or an object with a businesses array. For files, use the Apify file-upload picker. Arbitrary outside file URLs are not accepted.

### Dataset output

Each record includes:

| Property | Meaning |
|---|---|
| businessName | User-provided business name |
| sector, location | User-provided label values |
| ratingSource, sourceUrl | User-provided origin and profile URL, not independently verified |
| rating, reviewCount | User-provided numeric observations |
| ratingDate | Explicit YYYY-MM-DD date, or null |
| websiteUrl | User-provided website, or null |
| contactUrl | HTTPS same-site contact-page link from the supplied site's homepage, or null |
| provenance | Always user_supplied_not_provider_verified |

contactUrl does not contain mailto, telephone links or personal identifiers. The site checker never logs in or follows redirects. A null contactUrl does not mean a business has no contact page.

Rows are filtered by the selected thresholds, deduplicated by rating source plus source URL (preferring latest supplied date), and sorted by rating ascending, then review count descending. An OUTPUT record contains processing counts; no permanent contact list is created outside Apify's normal Actor storage.

### Examples and tests

- examples/input_inline.json: runnable test input containing **five fictional example businesses**
- examples/five_records.csv: the same five fictional records as a CSV
- examples/input_file_template.json: template for an Apify file upload

Run locally from this directory:

```
npm ci
npm test
npm start
```

### Pricing

**Live Apify Pay per Event price: USD 0.005 per validated, delivered result.** The 2026-10-08 cloud run (build 1.0.2, run wTmoFsp6LrezZc7oy) confirmed five chargeable result events. Five rows equal USD 0.025; 100 rows equal USD 0.50 before potential Apify customer-tier discounts. Actual platform compute/storage charges vary with runtime. The Actor is public under afkdigital/b2b-reputation-opportunity-analyzer.

### Compliance and limitations

- This Actor does not collect personal emails, phone numbers, individual profiles, or predict who wants to buy agency services.
- Data may remain in Apify input storages and result datasets according to your retention settings; use only data whose license permits this.
- No hidden rating scraping or API circumvention.
- No business discovery with v1: supply your own business records.
- Incomplete input is rejected or flagged instead of being invented.
- Customers must obey their rating data provider's commercial and redistribution terms.

See SOURCE_TERMS.md for official source-document references and release requirements for future integrations.
