## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper

Monitor **Google News** for any keyword, topic or country and get articles with the **real publisher URL** (Google's redirect links decoded), source name, publication date and, optionally, the **full article text**. No API key, no browser.

Give it search queries such as `"Tesla" when:1d`, pick topic sections like Technology or Business, choose the language and country edition, and get a clean dataset ready for alerts, dashboards, AI agents or datasets.

### What can you do with it?

- **Media monitoring and brand alerts**: every article that mentions your company, product, competitor or executive, delivered hourly to Slack, email or a Google Sheet.
- **News datasets**: collect headlines and article text for market research, NLP, sentiment analysis or trend tracking.
- **AI agents and RAG**: give your agent fresh, cited news with clean URLs. Works with the Apify MCP server.
- **Local and multilingual coverage**: any Google News edition (`US`, `GB`, `DE`, `IT`, `IN`, `BR`...) in its own language.
- **Journalism and PR**: who covered a story first, which outlets picked it up, and related coverage per story.
- **SEO and content research**: what is being published around your keywords right now.

### Features

- Search queries with Google operators (`"exact phrase"`, `site:reuters.com`, `-keyword`, `intitle:`) and a time filter (`publishedWithin`: `1h`, `1d`, `7d`...).
- Topic sections: Top stories, World, Nation, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, Health.
- Any custom `news.google.com/rss/...` feed URL (publications, geo feeds).
- **Decoded publisher URLs**: Google News links are resolved to the original article URL on the publisher's site, so you can open, dedupe and archive them.
- Optional **full article text** extraction (`articleText`, `articleHtml`, `author`, `image`, `wordCount`).
- Related coverage per story (`relatedArticles`) when Google groups several outlets.
- Deduplication across feeds in the same run.
- Pay only per article; no platform usage fees.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `queries` | array | – | Search keywords (one feed each, max 100 articles per feed). |
| `topics` | array | `[]` | Topic sections: `TOP`, `WORLD`, `NATION`, `BUSINESS`, `TECHNOLOGY`, `ENTERTAINMENT`, `SPORTS`, `SCIENCE`, `HEALTH`. |
| `feedUrls` | array | `[]` | Custom Google News RSS URLs. |
| `language` | string | `en` | Google News language (`en`, `en-GB`, `de`, `it`, `es`, `fr`, `pt-BR`...). |
| `country` | string | `US` | Edition country (`US`, `GB`, `DE`, `IT`, `IN`...). |
| `publishedWithin` | string | – | Only newer articles: `1h`, `12h`, `1d`, `7d`, `30d`. |
| `maxItemsPerFeed` | integer | 50 | Up to 100. |
| `decodeUrls` | boolean | true | Resolve the real publisher URL. |
| `fetchArticleText` | boolean | false | Download and extract the article body. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | Apify Proxy | Recommended when fetching article text. |

At least one of `queries`, `topics` or `feedUrls` is required.

Example:

```json
{
    "queries": ["\"OpenAI\"", "Apify"],
    "topics": ["TECHNOLOGY"],
    "language": "en",
    "country": "US",
    "publishedWithin": "1d",
    "maxItemsPerFeed": 100,
    "decodeUrls": true,
    "fetchArticleText": true
}
```

### Output

```json
{
    "query": "\"Pavel Durov\"",
    "feedKind": "search",
    "title": "Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Released from Custody After Facing Charges in France",
    "url": "https://coinmarketcap.com/academy/article/telegram-ceo-pavel-durov-released-from-custody-after-facing-charges-in-france",
    "googleUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi...",
    "source": "CoinMarketCap",
    "sourceUrl": "https://coinmarketcap.com",
    "publishedAt": "2026-10-12T08:03:50.000Z",
    "relatedArticles": [
        { "title": "Durov back in Dubai after French hearing", "googleUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi..." }
    ],
    "language": "en",
    "country": "US",
    "author": "Jane Reporter",
    "image": "https://coinmarketcap.com/...jpg",
    "description": "The founder and CEO of Telegram...",
    "articleText": "The founder and CEO of the popular messaging app Telegram, Pavel Durov, has been released...",
    "articleHtml": "<p>The founder and CEO...</p>",
    "wordCount": 640,
    "scrapedAt": "2026-10-13T15:10:00.000Z"
}
```

If a URL cannot be decoded, `url` is `null` and `decodeError` explains why; if an article body cannot be fetched (paywall, bot protection), `articleText` is `null` and `articleError` is set. You are still charged once per article record.

### Pricing

You pay per article. Decoding and article text are included in the price; no platform usage fees are added on top. 100 articles with decoded URLs take about 20 seconds.

### Tips

- Google News returns at most 100 articles per feed. For more coverage, split the time range (`publishedWithin: "1d"` scheduled daily) or add more specific queries.
- Use `publishedWithin` together with a schedule to build a continuous news archive without duplicates.
- Turn on Apify Proxy when `fetchArticleText` is enabled; many publishers block datacenter IPs.
- Connect the dataset to Slack, Google Sheets, Make, Zapier, n8n or your own code through the Apify API, or call the Actor from an AI assistant through the Apify MCP server.

### Limitations

- Google News decides which articles appear in a feed; the Actor cannot return articles Google does not list.
- Article text extraction depends on the publisher's page; paywalled or heavily scripted pages may return a partial text.

### Legal and fair use

The Actor reads public Google News feeds and public article pages. Respect publishers' copyright: store headlines and links freely, but check the licence before republishing full article text.

### Support

Open an issue on the **Issues** tab for broken feeds, new fields or bulk needs. Issues are usually answered within a day.

You can also email <support@agentsgearbox.com>. More actors, daily-updated comparisons of scrapers for 200+ websites and custom scraper requests at [agentsgearbox.com](https://agentsgearbox.com).

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

Keywords to search on Google News. Supports Google operators such as `"exact phrase"`, `site:reuters.com`, `-word`, `intitle:`. One feed per query (max 100 articles each).

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Optional Google News topic sections to scrape in addition to the queries.

## `feedUrls` (type: `array`):

Optional. Any `news.google.com/rss/...` URL, for example a publication feed or a geo feed.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Google News language code, e.g. `en`, `en-GB`, `de`, `it`, `es`, `fr`, `pt-BR`.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Google News edition country code, e.g. `US`, `GB`, `DE`, `IT`, `IN`.

## `publishedWithin` (type: `string`):

Only articles newer than this (applied by Google). Examples: `1h`, `12h`, `1d`, `7d`, `30d`. Leave empty for no limit.

## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Google News returns at most 100 articles per feed.

## `decodeUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Resolve Google's redirect links to the real article URL (`url`). Recommended. Costs one extra request per article.

## `fetchArticleText` (type: `boolean`):

Download each article and extract its readable text (`articleText`, `articleHtml`, `author`, `image`). Requires decoded URLs. Paywalled sites return a partial text.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify Proxy is recommended for large runs with article text, because publisher sites often block datacenter IPs.
