## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## 📍 Google Maps Scraper

Extract places from **Google Maps** for any search and location: name, categories, full address, **phone number**, **website**, rating, number of reviews, opening hours, coordinates and the Google Maps link. It's built for lead lists, market research and local SEO. **$1 per 1,000 places.**

🛡️ **Fair by design.** Runs on residential IPs and retries automatically after network errors. If Google refuses a request, the search is marked `BLOCKED` and you aren't charged. We don't try to get around Google's limits. In our latest tests, 300 of 300 and 120 of 120 places came back.

🔒 **Business data only.** It returns what businesses publish on their Google Maps listing. No reviewer names, no review texts and no email harvesting.

### ✨ What you can use it for

- 📇 **Lead lists:** every dentist, plumber or coworking space in a city, with phone numbers and websites.
- 📊 **Market research:** count competitors, compare ratings and review volumes by area.
- 📍 **Local SEO:** see who ranks for a search in a location, with their position (`rank`).
- 🗺️ **Data enrichment:** add coordinates, opening hours and categories to your own lists.

### 📥 Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search terms | What to search, e.g. `dentist`, `coffee`, `coworking space`. |
| Location | Added to every search, e.g. `Berlin` or `Austin, TX`. |
| Country | Recommended. Two-letter code, e.g. `de`. Google searches that country's region and places elsewhere are dropped (Hamburg, Germany vs. Hamburg, New York). |
| Max places per search | Google Maps shows up to about 120–135 places per search. For more, split the area (e.g. by district). |
| Filters | Min rating, min reviews, only with phone, only with website. Filtered places are not charged. |
| Language | Language of categories and opening hours, e.g. `en`, `de`. |

Example:

```json
{
    "searchQueries": ["bakery", "coffee"],
    "location": "Hamburg",
    "country": "de",
    "maxPlacesPerQuery": 100,
    "minRating": 4
}
```

### 📤 Output

One row per place:

```json
{
    "status": "OK",
    "placeId": "ChIJQ95Q6nGPsUcRJnB1eYoAQB8",
    "cid": "2251800408428474406",
    "name": "Der Kiezbäcker",
    "website": "http://www.kiezbaecker.de/",
    "rating": 4.7,
    "reviewsCount": 2066,
    "openingHours": [
        { "day": "Monday", "hours": "7:30 am–3 pm" },
    ],
    "timezone": "Europe/Berlin",
    "url": "https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJQ95Q6nGPsUcRJnB1eYoAQB8",
    "searchQuery": "bakery in Hamburg",
    "rank": 3
}
```

Searches that don't come back are listed too, free of charge: `{ "status": "BLOCKED", "searchQuery": "...", "page": 2, "error": "..." }`. `FAILED` means a network error.

### 💰 Pricing

**$0.001 per place** ($1 per 1,000). Places removed by your filters, and blocked or failed searches, are free. Runs stop on their own at the spending limit you set.

### ❓ FAQ

**Why do I get fewer places than I asked for?** Google Maps itself shows at most about 120–135 places per search. Split big areas into smaller ones (e.g. `dentist in Hamburg-Altona`, `dentist in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel`) to get more.

**Why do some places have no address or phone?** Some businesses don't publish them. Service-area businesses (e.g. plumbers) often hide their address.

**Does it include emails or reviews?** No. It returns business details from the Maps listing only.

**Is it legal and GDPR-compliant?** It collects information businesses publish on Google Maps and respects Google's limits. Phone numbers of sole traders can count as personal data under GDPR, so make sure your use (e.g. contacting businesses) follows the rules that apply to you.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

What to search on Google Maps, e.g. "dentist", "coffee" or "coworking space". You can also include the place, e.g. "dentist in Munich".

## `location` (type: `string`):

Optional. City, district or region added to every search, e.g. "Berlin" or "Austin, TX".

## `maxPlacesPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Google Maps shows up to about 120 places per search. For more, split the area into smaller locations (e.g. districts).

## `minRating` (type: `number`):

Optional. Only places rated at least this (1-5). Filtered places are not charged.

## `minReviews` (type: `integer`):

Optional. Only places with at least this many reviews. Filtered places are not charged.

## `onlyWithPhone` (type: `boolean`):

Skip places that don't list a phone number (not charged).

## `onlyWithWebsite` (type: `boolean`):

Skip places that don't list a website (not charged).

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language of categories and opening hours, e.g. en, de, fr, es.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Optional but recommended. Two-letter country code, e.g. de, us, gb. Google searches that country's region, and places in other countries are dropped (not charged). Useful because town names repeat (Hamburg, Germany vs. Hamburg, New York).

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many searches run in parallel.

## `maxRetries` (type: `integer`):

Retries when a request fails because of a network problem. Requests that Google refuses are not retried; they're marked BLOCKED and not charged.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Residential proxies are recommended; Google refuses many requests from datacenter IPs.
