## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Local SEO Keyword Finder: Google Autocomplete by Service & City

**What do people in your cities actually type into Google?** Give it your services and the cities you serve. It reads
Google's search suggestions for every service x city combination and returns a clean keyword list:

- "emergency plumber denver", "water heater repair cost aurora colorado", "best plumbing companies in denver"
- **Intent tags** on every keyword: near-me, emergency, price, best-reviews, question, DIY, commercial, local
- **Junk removed**: jobs, salary, schools, licence lookups, Reddit, and suggestions for *other* states' cities with
  the same name (Aurora IL / Aurora ON when you serve Aurora CO)
- **Deduped** across all seeds, with how many seeds surfaced each keyword (a rough popularity signal)

Built for local SEO agencies, service-area businesses and anyone writing city landing pages or Google Ads keyword
lists. Generic autocomplete scrapers give you A-Z soup; this one is organised by service and city.

### Example ("plumber" + "water heater repair" in Denver, CO and Aurora, CO; ~3 seconds)

| keyword | city | intent |
|---|---|---|
| plumber cost denver co | Denver, CO | price |
| best plumbing companies in denver | Denver, CO | best-reviews, commercial |
| water heater repair near aurora colorado | Aurora, CO | commercial |
| plumber near me free estimate | | near-me, price |
| how much does it cost to get a water heater fixed | Denver, CO | price, question |

![Keywords for plumber and water heater repair in Denver and Aurora, CO: real output](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/VsOADrgiznRqRejDw/records/keywords-output.png)

### Input

- **services**: what you sell, as customers say it.
- **locations**: cities with state ("Aurora, CO").
- **patterns**: seed templates with {s} and {loc}. Defaults: `{s} {loc}`, `{s} in {loc}`, `best {s} in {loc}`,
  `{s} near {loc}`, `{s} cost {loc}`, `{s} near me`.
- **expandAlphabet**: also every seed + a-z for deep long-tail (26x the queries). Broader and noisier (street
  names, nearby towns); rows found only this way are marked `fromAlphabet: true`.
- **excludeNoise**, **excludeOtherStates**, **country** (gl), **language** (hl), **maxQueries**.

### Output

One row per unique keyword:

```json
{"keyword": "water heater repair cost denver co", "service": "water heater repair", "location": "Denver, CO",
 "intent": ["price", "commercial"], "timesSeen": 1, "position": 3, "mentionsLocation": true, "wordCount": 6,
 "seedQuery": "water heater repair cost denver", "fromAlphabet": false, "isNoise": false, "otherLocation": false, "country": "us",
 "language": "en", "scrapedAt": "2026-10-04T16:30:00+00:00"}
```

`SUMMARY` in the key-value store lists the top 15 keywords per service and city.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.50 per 1,000 keywords** ($0.0005 each), no start fee. Junk and other-state suggestions are dropped
before you pay. The example above (42 keywords) costs about $0.02.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** Google's public search-suggestion endpoint, the one browsers use for the search
box. No login, no key, and no Google search result pages are fetched.

**How much does a typical run cost?** $0.0005 per keyword kept, nothing else. 2 services in 2 cities (the default
input) gives about 90 keywords, about $0.05. `expandAlphabet` can return a few thousand keywords (2,368 in
one early test, about $1.20). Set Apify's maximum cost per run in the run options to cap it.

**Does it give search volume?** No. Autocomplete shows what people search, not how often. `timesSeen` (how many
seeds surfaced a keyword) is a rough signal; use Google Keyword Planner for volumes.

**Why are "near me" keywords not tied to a city?** Google localises "near me" suggestions to the request, so the
Actor keeps only the modifiers ("near me open now", "near me free estimate"), which apply anywhere.

# Actor input Schema

## `services` (type: `array`):

What the business sells, as customers say it: "plumber", "water heater repair", "teeth whitening".

## `locations` (type: `array`):

Cities or suburbs you serve. Add the state ("Aurora, CO") so suggestions for other states' Auroras are removed.

## `patterns` (type: `array`):

Seed queries; {s} = service, {loc} = city. Patterns without {loc} run once per service. Add your own, e.g. "emergency {s} {loc}" or "{s} open now {loc}".

## `expandAlphabet` (type: `boolean`):

Also query every seed + a, b, c ... z: 26x more queries and far more long-tail keywords, but noisier (street names, other towns). Rows found only this way have fromAlphabet=true so you can filter them.

## `maxQueries` (type: `integer`):

Upper limit on seed queries per run.

## `excludeNoise` (type: `boolean`):

Drop job, salary, school, licence-lookup, Reddit and dictionary suggestions.

## `excludeOtherStates` (type: `boolean`):

Drop suggestions naming another US state or Canadian province than your city's (needs the state in the city, e.g. "Aurora, CO").

## `country` (type: `string`):

Google country (gl), e.g. us, ca, gb, au.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Google language (hl), e.g. en, es, fr.
