## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### Impressum scraper for Germany, Austria and Switzerland

**Impressum Scraper DACH** turns a list of company websites into clean legal company data taken from each site's **Impressum** (imprint / legal notice). Every commercial website in Germany (§5 DDG), Austria (§5 ECG, §25 MedienG) and Switzerland (UWG) must publish one, so it is the most reliable public source for **legal company name, legal form, address, register court and register number (HRB, HRA, FN, CHE), VAT ID (USt-IdNr., UID, MWST) and the company phone and e-mail**.

Paste domains, or feed it the dataset of a **Google Maps, Gelbe Seiten, Herold or local.ch scraper** and get every lead enriched with its official company data. Use it as an **Impressum API** for B2B lead enrichment, KYC and supplier checks, CRM cleanup, or to match businesses to the Handelsregister / Firmenbuch.

### Why use this Impressum scraper?

- 🇩🇪🇦🇹🇨🇭 **Built for DACH.** Understands German, Austrian and Swiss imprints: `HRB 12345 B`, `Amtsgericht Berlin (Charlottenburg)`, `FN 339428 i`, `Handelsgericht Wien`, `CHE-108.738.162 MWST`, `ATU65386815`, `GmbH & Co. KG`, `e.U.`, `OG`, `UG (haftungsbeschränkt)`, `Sàrl`.
- 💸 **Pay only for found Impressum pages.** Sites without an Impressum, sites that are down or block bots, robots.txt-blocked pages and duplicate domains cost **$0**.
- 🔗 **Works as a post-processor.** Paste the dataset ID of a Google Maps or business directory run; the website is read from `website`, `url`, `domain` and similar fields. Map links and social profiles are skipped.
- 🧭 **Finds the Impressum by itself.** Reads the homepage, follows the "Impressum" / "Imprint" / "Legal notice" link (WordPress, TYPO3, Shopify, Wix, Jimdo, Craft, Contao, one-page sites) and falls back to `/impressum`.
- 🛡️ **GDPR-friendly by default.** Names of managing directors and owners are left out (you get their count), personal e-mails (`anna.huber@`, gmail) and mobile numbers are left out. Company inboxes like `info@`, `office@`, `kontakt@` and landline numbers stay.
- 🤝 **Polite crawler.** Obeys every site's robots.txt (checked for every host and redirect), reads at most 3 pages per website (homepage, Impressum, one fallback; at most 6 HTTP requests including redirects), one request at a time, and never bypasses captchas or bot protection.
- ⚡ **Fast and cheap.** Pure HTTP, no browser: 50 websites in under a minute.

### How much does it cost to scrape Impressum data?

**$3.00 per 1,000 found Impressum pages** (pay per event, no subscription). You are charged only when an Impressum with company data was found. In our test on 53 real DACH company websites (WordPress, TYPO3, Shopify, Contao, Craft, Jimdo, custom), 79% returned an Impressum with company data; 81% of those had a register number and 74% a VAT ID. Cap the spend with *Max websites* and the run's maximum cost.

### How to scrape Impressum data

1. Paste **company websites or domains** (`frosta.de`, `https://www.manner.com`), one per line, or
2. paste the **Dataset ID** of a Google Maps / Gelbe Seiten / Herold scraper run (Storage → Dataset → ID).
3. Set **Max websites** and click **Start**.
4. Download the results as CSV, Excel, JSON or HTML, or read them via the Apify API. One row per website, with `status` = `found`, `notFound`, `skippedByRobots`, `error` or `invalidInput`.

### Known gaps

- Websites that render everything with JavaScript (single-page apps) or publish the Impressum only as an image or PDF return `notFound`.
- A few international brands redirect visitors by country; from the US-based Apify cloud they may show a non-DACH page. A proxy with a German exit IP (if your Apify plan includes one) helps.
- Shopify shops usually block `/policies/` (where Shopify puts the legal notice) in robots.txt. We respect that: such shops come back as `skippedByRobots` and are free.
- Fields are taken as published: a missing VAT ID or register number usually means the Impressum does not show it (small sole traders often have neither).

### FAQ

**Is it legal to scrape Impressum pages?** The Impressum is published because the law requires it to be public. This Actor reads only public pages, obeys robots.txt and makes very few requests per site. Managing director names and personal contact details are personal data under GDPR, so they are off by default. Use the data for B2B purposes only, keep a lawful basis (GDPR Art. 6), and respect the rules on unsolicited advertising (German UWG §7, Austrian TKG §174, Swiss UWG Art. 3) before contacting anyone.

**Do I need a proxy?** No. Company websites answer normal requests. The Actor never bypasses captchas or bot protection: a site that blocks it is reported as `error` and not charged.

**Which dataset fields are read?** `website`, `websiteUrl`, `web`, `homepage`, `domain`, `site`, `companyWebsite`, `url`, `link` (first that holds a company website), or the field you name in *Website field*. The business name (`title`, `name`) is copied to `sourceName` so you can join the results back.

**Something is wrong or missing?** Open an issue on the Actor's Issues tab with the domain; we usually fix parser gaps within 48 hours.

# Actor input Schema

## `websites` (type: `array`):

Company homepages or bare domains (frosta.de, https://www.manner.com). The Actor finds the Impressum link on the homepage and reads it. Duplicates (same domain with or without www) are checked once.

## `datasetId` (type: `string`):

Run any business directory or Google Maps scraper, copy its dataset ID and paste it here. The company website is read from the field website, websiteUrl, web, homepage, domain or url (Google Maps place links and social profiles are skipped). Items without a website are skipped for free.

## `websiteField` (type: `string`):

Name of the dataset field that holds the website, if it is not one of the usual names above.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of websites to check. You only pay for websites where an Impressum with company data was found.

## `includePersonNames` (type: `boolean`):

Names of Geschäftsführer, Vorstand and owners are personal data under GDPR. Off by default: you get only their count. Turn on only if you have a lawful basis to process them.

## `includePersonalContacts` (type: `boolean`):

Off by default: only company inboxes (info@, office@, kontakt@ ...) and landline numbers are returned; personal addresses (anna.huber@, gmail) and mobile numbers are left out.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many websites are checked at the same time (1-10). Each website gets one request at a time.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Usually not needed: company websites answer any visitor. The Actor never bypasses captchas or bot protection.
