## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### Regulatory compliance search — check company names against FDIC, EU Transparency Register, HATVP and CNIL

Regulatory Compliance Search checks a list of company names against four public regulatory registers in one run: FDIC failed banks (FDIC BankFind), the EU Transparency Register, the French HATVP register of interest representatives (lobbying register) and CNIL enforcement decisions. Each name is fuzzy-matched against every selected register, and each match comes back as one row with a match score, the register, the authority, a status, a date, a record link and the attribution text the register's terms require. It is built for compliance, due-diligence, KYB and procurement teams, journalists and researchers who need a quick first screen of counterparties. No API key or account with any register is needed. To try it, press **Start**: the prefilled name, Silicon Valley Bank, returns its FDIC failed-bank record in seconds.

Results are name matches with a `match_score`, not identity verification. A high score means the names look alike, not that two records are the same company, so review every match before you act on it.

### How to search regulatory registers for company names

1. Enter one or more names in **Company names**, one per line (up to 1,000).
2. Optionally narrow **Register categories**: financial (FDIC BankFind), transparency (EU Transparency Register and HATVP) and enforcement (CNIL decisions). All three are searched by default.
3. Optionally set **Maximum matches per register** (1 to 100, default 5). Matches are returned best match first.
4. Press **Start** and wait for the run to finish.
5. Open the **Output** tab to view the matches, then download them as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML.
6. To automate it, call the actor through the Apify API, or connect it to Make, Zapier, Google Sheets or a webhook with Apify integrations.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `names` | array of strings | none (required) | **Company names**: the company or organisation names to search for, one per line. Up to 1,000 names. |
| `categories` | array of strings | all three | **Register categories**: `financial` (FDIC BankFind), `transparency` (EU Transparency Register and HATVP) and `enforcement` (CNIL decisions). |
| `maxResultsPerSource` | integer | 5 | **Maximum matches per register**: the most matches to return for each company name from each register, best match first. From 1 to 100. |

Example input (the prefilled values):

```json
{
  "names": ["Silicon Valley Bank"],
  "categories": ["financial", "transparency", "enforcement"],
  "maxResultsPerSource": 5
}
```

### Output

Each dataset item is one match between a company name and a register record. A name with no match in a register gets no row from that register.

Example row (illustrative; `raw` is shortened):

```json
{
  "id": "fdic:4105:0",
  "query": "Silicon Valley Bank",
  "matched_name": "SILICON VALLEY BANK",
  "match_score": 1,
  "entity_type": "bank",
  "status": "failed",
  "country": "UNITED STATES",
  "authority": "FDIC",
  "source": "fdic",
  "source_url": "https://api.fdic.gov/banks/failures?filters=CERT:24735",
  "date": "2023-03-10",
  "attribution": "Source: FDIC BankFind Suite API (api.fdic.gov), public domain (U.S. Public Domain label 1.0). Not endorsed by the FDIC.",
  "raw": {
    "CERT": 24735,
    "CITY": "SANTA CLARA",
    "PSTALP": "CA",
    "BIDNAME": "First-Citizens Bank & Trust Company"
  }
}
```

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `id` | string | **Match ID**: `<register>:<record ID>:<company name position>`, unique within a run. |
| `query` | string | **Company name**: the input name that matched, as given. |
| `matched_name` | string | **Matched name**: the name or alias in the register record that best matched. |
| `match_score` | number | **Match score**: from 0 (no likeness) to 1 (the same name once case, accents and punctuation are ignored). |
| `entity_type` | string | **Entity type**: the kind of entity, in the register's own terms. |
| `status` | string | **Status**: `failed` (FDIC), `registered` (EU Transparency Register), `active` or `deregistered` (HATVP), `sanctioned` (CNIL). |
| `country` | string or null | **Country**: as the register gives it, in upper-case English or French. |
| `authority` | string | **Authority**: the FDIC, the European Commission, the HATVP or the CNIL. |
| `source` | string | **Register**: `fdic`, `eu-transparency`, `hatvp` or `cnil`. |
| `source_url` | string or null | **Record link**: the record on the register's own website, when there is one. |
| `date` | string or null | **Date**: the record's key date as YYYY-MM-DD, for example when a bank failed, an interest representative registered or a CNIL decision was made. |
| `attribution` | string | **Attribution**: the data source credit the register's terms or licence require. |
| `raw` | object | **Raw record**: the register record's original fields, for checking a match. |

The run also saves a short summary in the **Run summary** output.

### Pricing

This actor uses pay-per-event pricing: you pay for each matched record delivered to your dataset, and nothing for names that match nothing or for the register downloads.

#### How much does it cost to get 1,000 results?

$5.00 per 1,000 matched records ($0.005 per matched record), lower on paid Apify plans.

- Every matched record (one dataset row) is one charge.
- **Maximum matches per register** caps how many rows, and so charges, each name can produce.
- The run stops when it reaches your **maximum charge per run** setting, so you never pay more than you set.
- Apify adds a small fee for each run start.

### Limits & accuracy

- Up to 1,000 company names per run and up to 100 matches per name per register.
- Matching is by name only. Similar names can belong to unrelated companies, and a company can appear under a different name.
- The EU Transparency Register has no status field, so every listed record is `registered`.
- HATVP status is derived from the deregistration date: `deregistered` when the record has one, otherwise `active`.
- Data is refreshed once a day: each register is downloaded at most once per UTC day and reused for later runs that day.
- Not covered: FINRA BrokerCheck (its terms forbid scraping) and the ESMA sanctions register (automated reuse is not confirmed in its terms).

### Compliance & licences

Every row carries its register's `attribution` text. Keep that credit when you publish or share the data.

- **FDIC BankFind Suite API, failures** ([API docs](https://api.fdic.gov/banks/docs/)): U.S. public domain per the [FDIC Data Catalog](https://www.fdic.gov/data.json) (U.S. Public Domain label 1.0); the data "may be copied, published, distributed, transmitted, cited, and adapted". The FDIC is credited as the source. This actor is not endorsed by the FDIC, and the FDIC makes no warranty about this data.
- **EU Transparency Register**: reused under the European Commission's reuse notice, Commission Decision 2011/833/EU.
- **HATVP répertoire des représentants d'intérêts**: Licence Ouverte 2.0. Each HATVP row's `attribution` names the date the HATVP file was last updated.
- **CNIL enforcement decisions via the SansTrace Observatoire**: CC BY 4.0. SansTrace is a third-party compilation of public CNIL and Légifrance decisions and may change format. Each row's original source is in `raw.attribution`.

### FAQ

#### Is it legal to use this data?

The actor reads only public registers, within each source's terms:

- FDIC: U.S. public domain per the FDIC Data Catalog (U.S. Public Domain label 1.0); the data "may be copied, published, distributed, transmitted, cited, and adapted". The FDIC is credited as the source. This actor is not endorsed by the FDIC, and the FDIC makes no warranty about this data.
- EU Transparency Register: the European Commission's reuse notice, Commission Decision 2011/833/EU.
- HATVP: Licence Ouverte 2.0; each HATVP row's `attribution` names the date the HATVP file was last updated.
- CNIL via SansTrace: CC BY 4.0; a third-party compilation of public CNIL and Légifrance decisions that may change format; each row's original source is in `raw.attribution`.

Register records can include personal data, so make sure you have a lawful reason to process the results, such as under the GDPR. If you are unsure, ask a lawyer about your use case.

#### Is a match proof that a company is the one in the register?

No. A match means the names look alike, scored by `match_score`. Check the record link and the raw record before relying on it.

#### Why does a name return no rows?

No record in the selected registers matched it closely enough. Try another spelling or the company's legal name.

#### Where can I report an issue or request a feature?

Open the **Issues** tab on this actor's page and describe the input and what you expected.
