## Pricing

from $10.00 / 1,000 vehicle quotes

This Actor is paid per event and usage. You are charged both the fixed price for specific events and for Apify platform usage.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## U-Haul Truck Rental Quotes

Get **live U-Haul truck and cargo van rental rates** for any route and date, the same numbers uhaul.com shows when you search. Enter a pick-up location, an optional drop-off and a date, and get one row per vehicle: price, price with fees, included days and miles, extra-day and extra-mile rates, availability, discount and truck specs. Quote many routes in one run.

### What it does

For each route the Actor returns:

- **One-way moves** (pick-up and drop-off differ): flat rate including N days and M miles, plus the rate for each extra day and mile, and the arrival date U-Haul plans with.
- **In-town rentals** (drop-off empty): daily base rate plus the per-mile price.
- **Every vehicle U-Haul lists**: 8' pickup, 9' cargo van, 10', 15', 17', 20', 26' and 29' trucks, including those marked "Not available for your move" (`isAvailable: false`), so you can see what is missing.

Locations can be a city and state (`Austin, TX`), a ZIP code (`78701`) or an address. If U-Haul rejects a location, the Actor retries once with the closest location U-Haul suggests before skipping the route.

**Prices are live and move during the day.** U-Haul prices by demand and local inventory, so the Actor returns exactly what uhaul.com would show at that moment, stamped with `fetchedAt` and the `quoteUrl` you can open to compare. That makes it a price monitor as much as a quote tool: schedule it (Apify's scheduler or your own cron) for the routes and dates you care about, keep the dataset, and compare rows over time to catch drops before booking or to track a market. Quotes are never cached or smoothed; a stale price would be a wrong price for someone about to reserve.

### Input

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `pickupLocation` | City and state, ZIP or address. Required unless you use `routes`. |
| `dropoffLocation` | Leave empty for an in-town rental. |
| `pickupDate` | `YYYY-MM-DD` or `MM/DD/YYYY`. Defaults to 7 days from today. |
| `routes` | Optional batch: `[{"pickupLocation": "...", "dropoffLocation": "...", "pickupDate": "..."}]`. |
| `maxRoutes` | Upper limit on routes per run (default 20). |

```json
{
  "pickupLocation": "Austin, TX",
  "dropoffLocation": "Dallas, TX",
  "pickupDate": "2026-10-10",
  "routes": [
    { "pickupLocation": "90012", "dropoffLocation": "85004", "pickupDate": "2026-10-15" },
    { "pickupLocation": "Seattle, WA", "pickupDate": "2026-10-20" }
  ]
}
```

Bad values never fail the run: a past date, an unreadable date or a location U-Haul does not know skips that route with a warning in the log and in `RUN_SUMMARY`.

### Output

One dataset row per route and vehicle. Real rows from a run on 2026-09-25:

```json
{
  "pickupLocation": "90012",
  "dropoffLocation": "85004",
  "pickupDate": "2026-10-15",
  "tripType": "one_way",
  "resolvedPickup": "Los Angeles, CA",
  "resolvedDropoff": "Phoenix, AZ",
  "vehicleCode": "TM",
  "vehicleName": "10' Truck",
  "movingType": "Studio to 1 Bedroom Apt.",
  "isAvailable": true,
  "availabilityNote": null,
  "rate": 468,
  "rateIncludingFees": 473,
  "mileageRate": null,
  "extraDayRate": 40,
  "extraMileRate": 1,
  "allowedDays": 3,
  "allowedMiles": 450,
  "environmentalFee": 5,
  "fees": [{ "description": "Environmental", "amount": 5 }],
  "hasDiscount": true,
  "rateBeforeDiscount": 520,
  "discountDescription": "10% Instant Online Savings",
  "insideDimensions": "9'11\" x 6'4\" x 6'2\" (LxWxH)",
  "doorOpening": "5'11\" x 5'7\" (WxH)",
  "deckHeight": "2'5\"",
  "loadingRamp": "None",
  "originMco": "712",
  "destinationMco": "721",
  "expectedArrivalDate": "2026-10-18",
  "quoteUrl": "https://www.uhaul.com/Reservations/RatesTrucks/",
  "fetchedAt": "2026-09-25T21:17:28.851Z",
  "source": "uhaul.com"
}
```

In-town (`"pickupLocation": "78701"`, no drop-off), same run day:

```json
{ "tripType": "in_town", "resolvedPickup": "Austin, TX", "vehicleName": "10' Truck", "isAvailable": true, "rate": 19.95, "rateIncludingFees": 20.95, "mileageRate": 1.19, "allowedDays": null, "allowedMiles": null, "environmentalFee": 1 }
```

Field notes:

- `rate` is U-Haul's quoted rate in USD before fees and taxes. `rateIncludingFees` adds the per-rental fees U-Haul lists for the vehicle (environmental fee and, in some states, a vehicle license recovery fee). Taxes, damage coverage and moving supplies are not included.
- `mileageRate` is set for in-town rentals, `extraDayRate`/`extraMileRate`/`allowedDays`/`allowedMiles`/`expectedArrivalDate` for one-way moves. Fields that do not apply are `null`.
- Unavailable vehicles have `isAvailable: false` and null prices.
- `quoteUrl` is the U-Haul rates page for the quote. It is not a shareable booking link; to book, search again on uhaul.com.

Views and records:

- **Quotes** (dataset view): the price table.
- **Vehicle details** (dataset view): dimensions, ramp, discount and area codes.
- **Available only** (`AVAILABLE_QUOTES` record in the key-value store): only the vehicles U-Haul offers.
- **`RUN_SUMMARY`** record: `routesRequested`, `routesQuoted`, `rowsDelivered`, `stopReason` and a status for each route (`quoted`, `location_not_found`, `blocked`, `unexpected_response`, `not_attempted`).

### Run status

- A route where U-Haul marks every vehicle "Not available" still returns its rows, and the run succeeds.
- An unknown location succeeds with 0 rows for that route and a warning.
- The run fails only when **no** route could be quoted, with a message such as `The quote request failed on every route (HTTP 403)` or `The quote could not be read on any route`.
- If you set a maximum charge for the run, the Actor stops as soon as it is reached and only keeps the rows you paid for.

### Real-time HTTP API

Need one quote right now, from your app or an AI agent? Call the Actor as a live API instead of starting a run:

```sh
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN" \
  "https://aitorsm--uhaul-truck-rental-quotes.apify.actor/quote?pickup=Austin,%20TX&dropoff=Dallas,%20TX&date=2026-10-10"
```

- `pickup` and `date` (`YYYY-MM-DD`) are required. Leave out `dropoff` for an in-town rental.
- The answer is JSON: the route, `fetchedAt`, and `vehicles`, one row per vehicle in the same format as the dataset rows above.
- A quote takes about 20 seconds. Set your HTTP client timeout to at least 100 seconds.
- You pay one event per vehicle listed (available or not), the same price as a batch run. Errors cost nothing: `400` for a bad or past date, `404` when U-Haul does not know the location, `503` (with `Retry-After`) or `504` when the quote is not ready in time. If your maximum charge only covers some rows, you get those rows with status `402` and `"truncated": true`.

For a free truck-size reference, call `GET /vehicles` on the same Standby URL. AI agents can run this Actor in batch mode through Apify MCP and read its dataset. For an immediate quote, use `GET /quote`.

For many routes or dates, or for scheduled price tracking, use a normal run with `routes` instead.

### FAQ

**Why is the price different from what I saw on uhaul.com yesterday?**
U-Haul's rates change with demand and equipment availability for the route and date. The same route can change from one day to the next (Austin → Dallas for the same pick-up date moved from $309 to $150 for a 10' truck between two of our tests on the same day), and a different pick-up date can change it a lot. Every row carries `fetchedAt`; treat quotes as valid for that moment only.

**What is the difference between one-way and in-town?**
One-way means you drop the truck at another city. The price is a flat rate with a set number of days and miles included; going over costs `extraDayRate` per day and `extraMileRate` per mile. In-town means you return the truck to the same area. You pay a low daily base `rate` plus `mileageRate` for every mile driven, so the final cost depends on the distance you drive.

**Does it book or reserve a truck?**
No. It only returns public rates. Nothing is reserved and no personal data is sent.

**Which pick-up branch does the quote use?**
U-Haul quotes by city and does not name a branch; you choose the pick-up location later, when you reserve. So the rows have no branch address.

**Why are some prices shown with and without fees?**
In some states U-Haul shows two prices. The first is the rate, the second adds per-rental fees. The Actor returns both (`rate`, `rateIncludingFees`) and lists each fee in `fees`.
