## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper - Reliable & Fast

Get **Google Trends data for any list of keywords**: interest over time, interest by region and related queries, for any country, time range, category and search type (web, images, news, Google Shopping, YouTube).

Built for runs that must not fail: every request uses a fresh session, rate limits are retried automatically, and **you only pay for terms delivered with data**.

### What you get

| Data | Details |
| --- | --- |
| Interest over time | One point per hour, day or week (0-100), with partial periods flagged |
| Headline numbers | Average, peak and peak date, latest value, trend change in % |
| Interest by region | Countries, regions/states, US metro areas or cities |
| Related queries | Top and rising queries, with "Breakout" flags and links |
| Comparison mode | Up to 5 terms on the same 0-100 scale, like the Google Trends comparison chart |

### How to use it

1. Enter your **search terms**, one per line.
2. Pick a **location** (`US`, `FR`, `US-CA`... or empty for worldwide) and a **time range**, or set a custom range such as `2025-01-01 2025-06-30`.
3. Tick the data you need and click **Start**.
4. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Input example

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["bitcoin", "ethereum"],
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 12-m",
  "includeInterestOverTime": true,
  "includeInterestByRegion": true,
  "includeRelatedQueries": true
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "searchTerm": "bitcoin",
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 12-m",
  "averageInterest": 34.5,
  "peakValue": 100,
  "peakDate": "2026-02-01",
  "latestValue": 16,
  "latestDate": "2026-10-04",
  "trendChangePercent": -46.7,
  "interestOverTime": [
    { "date": "2025-10-12", "timestamp": "2025-10-12T00:00:00Z", "formattedTime": "Oct 12 - 18, 2025", "value": 40, "isPartial": false }
  ],
  "interestByRegion": [
    { "geoCode": "US-WY", "geoName": "Wyoming", "value": 100 }
  ],
  "relatedQueries": {
    "top": [{ "query": "bitcoin price", "value": 100, "formattedValue": "100", "isBreakout": false }],
    "rising": [{ "query": "how to buy bitcoin safely", "value": 9800, "formattedValue": "Breakout", "isBreakout": true }]
  },
  "exploreUrl": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=bitcoin&date=today+12-m&hl=en-US&geo=US"
}
```

In comparison mode, each item holds `searchTerms` and per-term `values` instead.

### Pricing

**$2.50 per 1,000 search terms** (pay per event). Interest by region and related queries are included at no extra cost. Terms that fail after every retry come back with an `error` field and are **not charged**. Set a maximum cost per run in the run options if you want a hard cap.

#### How much does it cost to scrape Google Trends?

| Run | Cost |
| --- | --- |
| 10 keywords, with regions and related queries | $0.025 |
| 100 keywords | $0.25 |
| 1,000 keywords | $2.50 |

Apify's free plan includes $5 of usage every month: enough for about 2,000 search terms a month without paying anything.

### Use it from code or from an AI agent

- **API:** start a run and fetch the dataset with the Apify API or the Python/JavaScript clients.
- **AI agents:** the Actor is available as a tool through the Apify MCP server, so assistants such as Claude can call it directly.

### FAQ

**Why are values between 0 and 100?** Google Trends normalises interest: 100 is the peak for the chosen term, place and period. Values are relative, not search volumes.

**Why do two runs give slightly different numbers?** Google Trends samples its data, so small differences between runs are normal.

**How many terms can I run?** Thousands. Raise "Parallel requests" for speed; switch the proxy to residential for very large runs.

**Is this an official Google product?** No. This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. It reads the same public data that trends.google.com shows to any visitor and collects no personal data.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Keywords or phrases to look up in Google Trends. Each term is returned as its own result, on its own 0-100 scale, unless you turn on "Compare terms".

## `geo` (type: `string`):

Country code (US, FR, MA, DE...) or region code (US-CA, FR-IDF). Leave empty for worldwide.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Period covered by the data. Ignored when a custom time range is set.

## `customTimeRange` (type: `string`):

Optional. Two dates separated by a space, for example "2025-01-01 2025-06-30". Overrides the time range above.

## `searchType` (type: `string`):

Which Google property the interest is measured on.

## `category` (type: `integer`):

Google Trends category to narrow the results, for example 7 for Finance or 71 for Food & Drink. 0 means all categories.

## `compareTerms` (type: `boolean`):

Put up to 5 terms on the same 0-100 scale, as in the Google Trends comparison chart. Terms are grouped by 5 in the order given.

## `includeInterestOverTime` (type: `boolean`):

Time series of search interest (0-100), with peak, average, latest value and trend change.

## `includeInterestByRegion` (type: `boolean`):

Search interest per country, region, metro area or city.

## `regionResolution` (type: `string`):

Level of detail for interest by region. Automatic means countries for worldwide searches and regions inside a country.

## `includeRelatedQueries` (type: `boolean`):

Top and rising related search queries, with breakout flags.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language of labels such as region names and topic types, for example en-US, fr, es, de.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many terms are fetched at the same time. Higher is faster but more likely to be rate-limited.

## `maxRetries` (type: `integer`):

How many fresh sessions are tried for a term before it is reported as failed (failed terms are not charged).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxies used to reach Google Trends. The default works for most runs; residential proxies help on very large runs.
