## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Trending Now Scraper - All Trends, Volume & News

Get **every trending search from Google Trends "Trending now"** for any country or US state, not just the top 10 of the RSS feed: about 600 trends for the United States over 24 hours and about 3,000 over 7 days.

For each trend you get the **search volume, growth, start and end time, active status, category, related queries and the news articles** Google links to it. You **pay only for the trends delivered**.

### What you get for each trend

| Group | Fields |
| --- | --- |
| Trend | Keyword, Google's rank, location, time range |
| Size | Search volume (for example 500K+), growth in % |
| Timing | Start time, end time, active or not, duration in hours |
| Topic | Categories (Sports, Technology, Politics...) and their ids |
| Context | Related queries (Google's "trend breakdown"), news articles with title, link, source, date and image |
| Links | The keyword on Google Trends Explore, the Trending now page |

### Use cases

- **Newsrooms and content teams**: spot rising topics by country and category before they peak, with the articles already covering them.
- **SEO and marketing**: feed trending searches into keyword research, content calendars or ad campaigns.
- **Monitoring**: schedule a run every few hours and alert on new active trends in your category.
- **Research and data science**: build a history of what each country searches, with volumes and durations.

### How to use it

1. Enter one or more **locations**: country codes such as `US`, `GB`, `FR`, `IN`, `BR`, or US states such as `US-CA`.
2. Pick a **time range**: past 4 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours or 7 days.
3. Optionally keep only some **categories**, only **active** trends, or trends above a **minimum search volume**, and choose the **sort order**.
4. Click **Start**, then download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Pricing

**$0.80 per 1,000 trends** (pay per event). News articles and related queries are included at no extra cost. A location that fails after every retry comes back with an `error` field and is **not charged**. Use the filters and "Max trends per location" to pay only for what you need, and set a maximum cost per run in the run options for a hard cap.

#### How much does it cost to scrape Google Trends Trending Now?

| Run | Cost |
| --- | --- |
| Top 50 trends of one country | $0.04 |
| All trends of the United States, past 24 hours (about 600) | about $0.48 |
| All trends of the United States, past 7 days (about 3,000) | about $2.40 |

Apify's free plan includes $5 of usage every month: enough for about 6,000 trends a month without paying anything.

### Use it from code or from an AI agent

- **API:** start a run and fetch the dataset with the Apify API or the Python and JavaScript clients.
- **Schedules:** run it every hour or every day from Apify Schedules to build a trend history.
- **AI agents:** the Actor is available as a tool through the Apify MCP server, so assistants such as Claude can call it directly.

### FAQ

**How is this different from the Google Trends RSS feed?** The RSS feed shows about 10 trends per country. This Actor returns the full Trending now list, with search volumes, growth, timing, categories and up to 25 news articles per trend.

**What does "search volume" mean?** It is Google's lower bound for the number of searches since the trend started: 500K+ means at least 500,000 searches.

**Which locations work?** Countries supported by Google Trends Trending now, and US states (`US-CA`, `US-NY`...). An unsupported code is reported with an `error` item and is not charged.

**Is this an official Google product?** No. This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. It reads the same public data that trends.google.com shows to any visitor and collects no personal data.

# Actor input Schema

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter country codes (US, GB, FR, DE, IN, BR, MA...) or US states (US-CA, US-NY). One result list per location.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Trends that started within this period.

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Keep only trends in these categories. Leave empty for all categories.

Keep only trends with at least this many searches (Google's lower bound, for example 1000 for "1K+").

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

Order of the results within each location. Each result keeps Google's original rank.

## `maxItemsPerCountry` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many trends per location, after filters and sorting. 0 means all (a US 7-day run returns about 3,000 trends).

Add the news articles Google links to each trend: title, link, source, date and image.

## `newsPerTrend` (type: `integer`):

How many news articles to add to each trend (1 to 25).

## `includeRelatedQueries` (type: `boolean`):

Add the related searches Google groups under each trend (its "trend breakdown").

## `maxRetries` (type: `integer`):

How many fresh sessions are tried for a location before it is reported as failed (failed locations are not charged).
