# Bank Financial Health Lookup — FDIC BankFind (`alaudinburki/bank-health-lookup`) Actor

Bank financial snapshot per charter — total assets, domestic deposits, active status, charter class — from FDIC's free official BankFind data. Asset/deposit figures converted from FDIC's thousands-of-dollars convention to real dollar amounts.

## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Bank Financial Health Lookup — FDIC BankFind

The FDIC publishes every insured bank's total assets, deposits, and
active/closed status — free and keyless. This turns a bank name into a
financial snapshot per charter. Complements the Financial Complaint
Monitor (#73, complaint volume) with the size/health half of the picture.

### Input

```json
{ "banks": ["Wells Fargo", "JPMorgan Chase"] }
```

One bank per line — a bank's full legal name can itself contain a comma.

### Sample output

```json
{
  "name": "Wells Fargo Bank, National Association",
  "cert": 3511,
  "isActive": true,
  "totalAssets": 1907928000000,
  "totalDomesticDeposits": 1554614000000,
  "city": "Sioux Falls",
  "state": "SD",
  "charterClassLabel": "National bank, Federal Reserve member (OCC)"
}
```

### Typical uses

- **Vendor / partner due diligence** — check a bank's size and active
  status before a banking relationship.
- **Financial research** — compare bank sizes by assets/deposits.
- **Complaint-context research** — pair with the Financial Complaint
  Monitor to see complaint volume relative to institution size.

### Pricing

**$0.002 per charter record.**

### ⚠️ Read before you act

- **A bank name can match multiple FDIC charters** — different legal
  entities under the same brand (e.g., "Wells Fargo National Bank West"
  is a separate charter from the main "Wells Fargo Bank, National
  Association"), or a charter that has since closed or merged.
- **Assets/deposits are converted to real dollar amounts.** FDIC reports
  these fields in thousands of dollars internally — this actor converts
  them so you never have to remember to multiply by 1,000.
- **This is size/status data, not a safety rating.** FDIC insurance
  status and consumer complaint history (see Financial Complaint
  Monitor) are different, complementary signals.

### FAQ

- **Do I need an API key?** No — FDIC's BankFind API is free and keyless.
- **What does `isActive: false` mean?** The charter has closed, merged, or
  otherwise left FDIC's active roster — a real historical record, not an error.
- **What's `charterClassLabel`?** FDIC's own regulatory charter
  classification (national bank, state bank, savings association, etc.),
  translated to plain English.

### Related actors

- **Financial Complaint Monitor** — the complaint-volume half of a
  bank's picture; pair the two for a fuller due-diligence read.
- **Nonprofit Financial Lookup** — the same official-registry financial
  snapshot pattern, for nonprofits instead of banks.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "banks": [
        "Wells Fargo"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("alaudinburki/bank-health-lookup").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
