## Pricing

from $1.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## CoinGecko Markets — Prices, Market Cap and 24h Change

Live cryptocurrency market data as flat rows — price, market cap, rank, volume and 24-hour change.
Free public API, no key.

### What you get

`symbol`, `name`, `price`, `marketCap`, `marketCapRank`, `volume24h`, `high24h`, `low24h`,
`change24hPct`, `allTimeHigh`, `lastUpdated`, `id`.

### Sample output

```json
{ "symbol": "btc", "name": "Bitcoin", "price": 68000,
  "marketCap": 1340000000000, "marketCapRank": 1, "change24hPct": -1.2 }
```

### Limitations

- **An aggregated price, not an exchange quote.** It is a volume-weighted blend across exchanges, so it
  will not match your exchange's last trade.
- The free tier is **rate-limited and shared**; this Actor paces about one request every 1.5 seconds.
- **Not financial advice and not a settlement source.** A 24-hour change is a trailing number, not a
  forecast.
- `market_cap_rank` changes continuously and can be `null` for a very new coin.

### Inputs

| Input | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| `currency` | string | — | usd, eur, gbp, pkr and most other codes. |
| `order` | string | — | market_cap_desc, volume_desc, id_asc, etc. |

Stops after **500 rows** or **1 requests**, whichever comes first — raise
`maxItems` and `maxPages` for more. Requests are paced 1500 ms apart.

The dataset's SUMMARY records `truncated` and `stopReason`, so a run that hit a cap says so
rather than looking like a source that had nothing more.

### Pricing

Pay per result.

### Fields

| Field | Type | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| `symbol` | string | Ticker or symbol as the source writes it. |
| `name` | string | Display name as the source writes it. |
| `price` | number | Price as reported by the source. Currency is given by the currency field. |
| `marketCap` | number | Market capitalisation in the currency given by the currency field. |
| `marketCapRank` | number | Rank by market capitalisation. 1 is the largest. |
| `volume24h` | number | Trading volume over the last 24 hours. |
| `high24h` | number | Highest price in the last 24 hours, in the source's quote currency. A trailing window, so it moves continuously. |
| `low24h` | number | Lowest price in the last 24 hours, in the source's quote currency. |
| `change24hPct` | number | Price change over the last 24 hours as a PERCENTAGE. The sign carries the direction. |
| `allTimeHigh` | number | Highest price the source has ever recorded, in the quote currency. Depends on how far back the source's history goes. |
| `lastUpdated` | string | ISO 8601 timestamp of the last change seen. |

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "maxItems": 500,
    "maxPages": 5
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("alaudinburki/coingecko-markets").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
