## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Machinery Auction Listings — MachineryTrader and TractorHouse

Every live equipment auction lot on **MachineryTrader** and **TractorHouse** in one schema — year,
make, model, category, **current bid**, auction type and auction date — with `firstSeenAt` so new lots
become visible between runs.

This is the aggregation the industrial research asked for: **every incumbent covers one sandhills site**,
and a dealer comparing machines across them reconciles by hand.

### What you get

**Default dataset — one row per lot**

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `id` | `<site>:<lotId>` — the destination number, stable across runs |
| `source`, `lot` | Which site, and the auction lot number |
| `title` | As listed, e.g. `2022 CASE SV280B Wheel Skid Steers` |
| `year`, `make`, `model` | Parsed from the title |
| `category`, `categoryId` | **The category you asked for** — not the truncated title one |
| `bid`, `bidRaw`, `currency` | Current bid, e.g. `49980`, `"USD"` |
| `auctionType` | `online` or `on-site` |
| `auctionDate` | ISO date, where the card states one |
| `isNew`, `firstSeenAt`, `scrapedAt` | Change tracking |
| `url` | Direct link to the lot |

**Dataset `summary` — one row per category**: `lots`, `withBid`, `bidLow`, `bidMedian`, `bidHigh`,
`yearMin`, `yearMax`.

### Sample output

```
machinerytrader/skid-steers — 27 lots
27 lots across 1 site(s); 0 failed
```

```json
{ "title": "2022 CASE SV280B Wheel Skid Steers", "year": 2022, "make": "CASE",
  "bid": 49980, "currency": "USD", "auctionType": "online" }
```

```json
{ "category": "skid-steers", "lots": 27, "withBid": 27,
  "bidLow": 2650, "bidMedian": 36100, "bidHigh": 66800,
  "yearMin": 2002, "yearMax": 2026 }
```

### Limitations — read before buying

- **A browser is required.** Both sites return **HTTP 403** to a plain request and render their cards
  only in a browser. This runs on the Playwright image.
- **Two sites only.** AuctionTime, EquipmentFacts and Ritchie Bros are **not** covered. Cards link out
  to them, but only these two Sandhills sites were verified — the others are named as unbuilt rather
  than half-scraped.
- **`bid` is the CURRENT bid, not a sold price.** A `$0.00` bid on an on-site lot means bidding has
  not opened; it is a real value and is reported as `0`, not as missing.
- **`make` and `model` come from the title.** A long manufacturer name such as
  `SHANDONG NUOMAN ENGINEERING MACHINERY CO LTD` splits imperfectly.
- **Category comes from what you asked for**, because the title truncates multi-word categories —
  `2022 CASE SV280B Wheel Skid Steers` would otherwise report `Steers`.
- Cards load lazily; raise **scrolls** for more lots and more time.

### Pricing

Pay per result.

# Actor input Schema

## `sites` (type: `array`):

Which auction sites to read. Both are Sandhills sites with identical markup, and both need a browser. Valid values: machinerytrader, tractorhouse.

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Category slugs or the sites' numeric ids. Slugs: skid-steers, excavators, mini-excavators, pipelayers, dozers, wheel-loaders, telehandlers, backhoes, farm-tractors, combines.

## `includeSummary` (type: `boolean`):

Write a second dataset with lot counts and current-bid bands per category.

## `onlyNewSinceLastRun` (type: `boolean`):

Return only lots not seen before, and set isNew.

## `scrolls` (type: `integer`):

Cards load lazily; more scrolls means more lots and more time.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many lots.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "sites": [
    "machinerytrader",
    "tractorhouse"
  ],
  "categories": [
    "skid-steers",
    "telehandlers"
  ],
  "includeSummary": true,
  "onlyNewSinceLastRun": false,
  "scrolls": 3,
  "maxItems": 2000
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per item, with the 8 fields listed under Views.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
        "telehandlers"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("alaudinburki/machinery-auction-listings").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
