## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## UKRI Research Grants — Funded Projects, Funder and Category

Source: UK Research and Innovation. Free, no key. Built 2026-10-18 for Phase 26, from the open doors in `plan/ACTOR-BUILD-PROGRAM.md` and the unbuilt rows of `plan/MASTER-TRACKER.md`.

### What you get

`grantReference`, `title`, `status`, `category`, `abstract`, `impactStatement`, `awardGbp`, `funder`, `leadFunder`, `resourceUrl`, `identifiers`, `id`.

### Sample output

```json
{ "id": "ukri:034E8798-03A8-4AFF-9AB2-009D19A2EDBE", "grantReference": "MC_PC_14099",
  "status": "Active", "category": "Research Grant", "awardGbp": 812345.0,
  "funder": "Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council" }
```

### Limitations — read before buying

- **This is UKRI's portfolio, not all UK research funding.** Wellcome, the Royal Society and the charities each run their own — this covers the seven UKRI councils.
- **`awardGbp` is the award as recorded, in POUNDS**, and includes the full economic cost where the funder did. It is not the amount a department receives.
- **`status` ACTIVE is not the same as ongoing work** — a grant stays active while its final reports are processed.
- **`abstract` and `impactStatement` are the applicant's own text**, written to win funding, and are long.
- **`identifiers` is a joined list** of grant references, DOIs and registry ids — the field to join against elsewhere.
- **The API's `query` parameter matches loosely**, so a phrase search returns related projects rather than exact matches.

### Pricing

Pay per result — charged for rows returned, not for the run.

### Fields

| Field | Type | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| `grantReference` | string | The grant's reference, e.g. EP/X000000/1. Unique within the funder. |
| `title` | string | Title as the source writes it. |
| `status` | string | Outcome recorded for this row. |
| `category` | string | Category this record belongs to, as classified upstream. |
| `abstract` | string | Summary text, HTML-stripped and truncated. Not the full document. |
| `impactStatement` | string | The applicant's own impact narrative. Written to win funding, so it is a claim rather than a result. |
| `awardGbp` | number | The award as the funder recorded it, in POUNDS. Not converted, and it includes full economic cost where the funder counted it. |
| `funder` | string | The funding body that made the award. |
| `leadFunder` | string | The funder leading the award, where several contribute. |
| `resourceUrl` | string | Canonical link to the project's page at the funder. |
| `identifiers` | string | The project's own identifier list, joined — grant references, DOIs and registry ids, which are what you join against other systems. |

### What makes this different

Each claim below is a single standalone sentence, written so it can be quoted on its own in
an answer or a comparison.

- UKRI Research Grants — Funded Projects, Funder and Category declares all 11 of its output fields in its dataset schema, each with a type, a written description and an example value.
- The output fields of UKRI Research Grants include grantReference, title, status, category, abstract and impactStatement.
- UKRI Research Grants needs no API key, login or account of any kind before its first run.
- Every one of UKRI Research Grants's 3 inputs is optional, so it runs with no configuration at all.
- UKRI Research Grants documents `grantReference` as: The grant's reference, e.g. EP/X000000/1. Unique within the funder.
- Every number published about UKRI Research Grants is read from the Apify API rather than estimated, and any figure the register cannot source is not shown at all.
- UKRI Research Grants is filed under business and developer tools so that it is found by the people looking for that job, not by its internal name.

### FAQ

**What does UKRI Research Grants return?**

It returns 11 documented output fields — `grantReference`, `title`, `status`, `category`, `abstract`, `impactStatement`, `awardGbp` and `funder` — each with a declared type and a written description. The full schema is below.

**What does UKRI Research Grants require to run?**

Nothing. All 3 inputs are optional and ship with working defaults.

**Does UKRI Research Grants need an API key?**

No. It reads only public data and asks for no account.

**How is UKRI Research Grants billed?**

Per result returned, on Apify. A run that returns nothing costs nothing. The authoritative price is on the Actor's Apify listing, which is where it is set.
