## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Google News Scraper

**Google News Scraper** extracts news articles from Google News by keyword or topic and returns clean, structured JSON — title, source, publish date, snippet and the Google News article link. Search many keywords at once, in any language and country. Pay only for the articles you get.

### What this Google News scraper does

- Search Google News for **one or many keywords** in a single run.
- Or pull a built-in **topic section** (World, Business, Technology, Sports, Science, Health…).
- Works in **any language / country** via `hl`, `gl` and `ceid` (e.g. `en-US`, `pt-BR`, `es-419`).
- Cleanly splits the `Headline - Source` title into separate `title` and `source` fields.
- Normalises `publishedAt` to ISO 8601 and includes a plain-text `snippet`.
- Datacenter proxy is enough — no expensive residential proxy needed, so runs stay cheap.

> **A note on links.** Google News link ids are opaque redirect identifiers. This actor always returns the canonical `googleNewsUrl` (which opens the article in a browser). Turning on the optional **best-effort** `resolveUrls` will *try* to add a real publisher URL in a separate `resolvedUrl` field, but Google frequently does not allow this to be expanded — so it is off by default and never guessed.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `queries` | List of search terms. Empty → use `section` or top headlines. |
| `section` | Optional topic section (WORLD, BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY, …). |
| `language` | Language code `hl`, e.g. `en-US`, `pt-BR`. |
| `country` | Country code `gl`, e.g. `US`, `BR`. |
| `maxItems` | Cap on total articles (0 = no limit). |
| `resolveUrls` | Best-effort publisher-URL resolution (default `false`). |

### Output

Each dataset item:

```json
{
  "query": "bitcoin",
  "title": "Riot Platforms strikes deal with Anthropic…",
  "source": "CNBC",
  "url": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi…",
  "resolvedUrl": null,
  "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi…",
  "publishedAt": "2026-08-11T17:43:14.000Z",
  "snippet": "…",
  "language": "en-US",
  "country": "US",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-08-12T05:00:00.000Z"
}
```

### Pricing

**Pay per event:** `$0.001` per article scraped. You are billed per article as it is delivered, so an aborted run only pays for what it returned. No monthly rental.

### Common uses

- Media monitoring & brand tracking across languages.
- Feeding a **RAG / LLM** pipeline with fresh, source-attributed news headlines.
- Building news datasets for research or trend analysis.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

One or more keywords/phrases to search Google News for. Leave empty to pull a topic section or the top headlines.

## `section` (type: `string`):

Instead of (or in addition to) a search, pull a Google News topic section.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Google News language code, e.g. en-US, pt-BR, es-419.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Google News country code, e.g. US, BR, GB.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many articles across all feeds. 0 = no limit.

## `resolveUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Attempt to follow each Google News link to the real publisher URL and add it as a 'resolvedUrl' field. Best-effort only — Google News link ids are opaque and often cannot be expanded, so this adds latency and may frequently return nothing. Off by default; the canonical googleNewsUrl is always returned.

## `proxy` (type: `object`):

Datacenter proxy is enough for Google News and keeps cost near zero. Residential is unnecessary here.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "queries": [
    "bitcoin",
    "openai"
  ],
  "section": "",
  "language": "en-US",
  "country": "US",
  "maxItems": 100,
  "resolveUrls": false,
  "proxy": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyGroups": []
  }
}
```
