## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Product recall monitor: Safety Gate, Lebensmittelwarnung, BLV, Swissmedic

Paste the **brands or barcodes you sell**. Get only the **matching official alerts** as Excel: **EU Safety Gate** (non-food), **Lebensmittelwarnung.de** (German food, cosmetics and consumer goods), **BLV / RecallSwiss** (Swiss food) and **Swissmedic** (Swiss medicines). No login. The form and the API use the same fields. If nothing matches, the run is free.

### How to watch your catalogue

1. Type brands or EANs, one per line. The example **Karrimor** is a real Safety Gate alert, so the first run returns a row.
2. Leave all four sources selected, or untick the ones you do not sell.
3. Click **Start**. Export **Excel** from **Output**.
4. For a daily alert, turn on **Only alerts I have not received yet** and add a **Schedule**. Connect email, Slack or Google Sheets under **Integrations**.

### What one row looks like

| Keyword | Source | Title | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Karrimor | safety-gate | Karrimor Mobile phone armband | Chemical |

Safety Gate rows also include the barcode, category and a link to the official alert. Food and Swiss rows keep the original German title.

Kein Treffer kostet nichts. Für den täglichen Lauf **Only new** einschalten.

### Input (form = API)

| Field | API value | Example |
|---|---|---|
| **keywords** | array, or one comma-separated string | `Karrimor` |
| **sources** | `safety-gate`, `lebensmittelwarnung`, `blv`, `swissmedic` | all four |
| **weeksBack** | 1–8 Safety Gate weekly reports | `2` |
| **maxResults** | cost cap | `100` |
| **onlyNew** | skip alerts already returned | `false` |
| **alertName** | separate memory per catalogue | `food` |

Aliases: `brands`, `query`, `eans`, `barcode`, `source`, `limit`.

### Pricing

**$0.01 per matching alert** returned. No match, and alerts skipped by **onlyNew**, are free. SILVER 10% off, GOLD and above 20% off.

### FAQ

**Does this replace a recall insurance or a lawyer?** No. It is a keyword match against public feeds. A product can be recalled under a name you did not type.

**Why is the example brand Karrimor?** So the pre-filled run returns a real Safety Gate row instead of an empty file.

**How fresh is Safety Gate?** A new weekly report is published on Fridays. The German and Swiss feeds are the current public lists.

### For developers: API

`POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/alpine-data~product-recall-monitor/runs?token=YOUR_TOKEN`

```json
{
  "keywords": ["Karrimor", "2765238030004"],
  "sources": ["safety-gate"],
  "weeksBack": 2,
  "onlyNew": true,
  "alertName": "nonfood"
}
```

An empty body runs the Karrimor example across all four sources.

### Sources and limits

Official public feeds only. This Actor is not affiliated with the European Commission, the BVL, the BLV or Swissmedic. Safety Gate is limited to 8 weekly reports per run. Lebensmittelwarnung is the national RSS, not every historical notice. BLV rows are the warnings linked from the current BLV page.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

One brand, product word or EAN per line. A number is matched as a barcode. API: an array, or one comma-separated string.

## `sources` (type: `array`):

Leave the default to search all four. API: an array of safety-gate, lebensmittelwarnung, blv, swissmedic.

## `weeksBack` (type: `integer`):

Safety Gate publishes one report each Friday. 2 is the last two weeks. The other sources use their current feed.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

The run stops after this many matching alerts, so the cost stays capped.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Turn this on for a daily schedule. Already returned alerts are free.

## `alertName` (type: `string`):

Separate memory when you watch more than one catalogue.
