## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## US Federal Contracts Monitor: FPDS Awards & Vendor Watch (MCP)

**Use this actor when you need to know which company just won which US federal contract, how much, from which agency** — or to watch a vendor/keyword and get `new-award` alerts the day money moves. Official FPDS-NG public feed, keyless, MCP-ready.

### Why FPDS beats scraping SAM.gov

FPDS-NG is the government's contract-award database of record (over 150k awards/month). Reddit GovCon threads keep asking "how do I track recompetes and expiring contracts without GovWin ($$$)?" — this feed is the answer nobody packages cleanly: `LAST_MOD_DATE` windows + vendor filters, parsed to typed rows and monitored daily.

### What you get per row

PIID + transaction/mod numbers, vendor name + country, contracting agency / department / office, **obligated amount**, base+options full value, signed & completion dates, PSC code, action type (New / Delivery Order / Modification), official summary line, FPDS detail link.

### Two modes

#### `search` — pull awards

```json
{ "mode": "search", "term": "cybersecurity",
  "dateFrom": "2026-10-01", "maxResults": 10 }
```

Vendor-exact hunting: `{ "vendor": "PHACIL, INC." }` (exact federal legal name). Windows via `dateFrom/dateTo` on last-modified.

#### `monitor` — money radar (daily)

```json
{ "mode": "monitor", "watchQueries": ["cybersecurity", "vendor:BOOZ ALLEN HAMILTON INC"] }
```

- **Run 1 = free baseline** (30-day window snapshot).
- Later runs emit only **`new-award`** rows (vendor + $ in the alert line).
- Schedule 1/daily — silence costs $0.001.

### Recipes

1. **Recompete radar** — watch a big incumbent vendor; new awards & mods appear the day they're signed (competitive intel).
2. **Gov-BD pipeline** — keyword watch ("AI services", "language services") → Slack/email new-award feed.
3. **Where the money went (journalism/research)** — agency + PSC + dates → audit-type pulls.

### Data honesty

Rows come from the official FPDS public feed at run time. FPDS delivery orders reuse base-award envelopes, so dedupe keys include transaction timestamps — that's why federal detail links have the same root. Amounts are as published by contracting offices.

### Pricing

| event | price |
|---|---|
| Actor start | $0.001 |
| US contract award | $0.005 / row |

Typical: 10-award search ≈ **$0.051** · daily vendor watch ≈ **$0.001–0.06** — vs GovWin/Tussell tiers in the hundreds-to-thousands per month.
