## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## WHO Health Data Monitor: 3,100 Indicators, All Countries (MCP)

The **entire WHO Global Health Observatory** — 3,102 official health indicators for every country on Earth (life expectancy, mortality, immunization coverage, disease incidence, malaria, TB, cholera…) — through one clean format. **Find indicators by keyword, pull country series with confidence intervals, and get alerted when WHO publishes new or revised figures.** Official GHO OData API, no key, no login. MCP-compatible, agent-ready.

### Why this matters

- WHO figures get **revised** — estimates for past years change when models update. Monitor mode catches both *new observations* and *revisions* (old value preserved in `info`).
- AI agents answering "life expectancy in Morocco?" or "cholera cases in Haiti?" now return **exact official WHO numbers, dated, with the API URL** — not training-memory.
- Global-health researchers, journalists, NGOs and public-health teams browse the GHO by hand; this actor turns hours of clicking into a schedule plus a webhook.

### What you get per row

`indicatorCode` + official name, `country` (ISO3), `parentLocation` (WHO region), `year`, `numericValue` with `lowValue`/`highValue` (confidence interval when provided), `dim1` (sex/age disaggregation; empty = both sexes), event fields, and a direct WHO portal link.

### Three modes

#### `search` — find the indicator

```json
{ "mode": "search", "query": "life expectancy", "maxResults": 10 }
```

#### `dataset` — pull a series

```json
{ "mode": "dataset", "indicatorCode": "WHOSIS_000001", "countries": "MAR,FRA", "yearFrom": "2015", "maxResults": 20 }
```

→ latest–richest rows per country/disaggregation: e.g. Morocco life expectancy with CI.

#### `monitor` — new & revised figures

```json
{ "mode": "monitor", "watchIndicators": ["WHOSIS_000001@MAR", "SA_0000001699@MAR,DZA"], "maxResults": 30 }
```

- **Run 1 = free baseline** — latest value per country snapshotted.
- **Run 2+** emits only: `new-value` (newer year appeared) and `value-changed` (WHO revised; old → new in `info`).
- Schedule weekly; a quiet cycle costs **$0.001**.

### Data honesty & limits

- Values come **only** from the official WHO GHO OData API at run time; empty estimates are omitted.
- WHO updates annually (and episodically for outbreak indicators) — the monitor's value is in catching revisions and releases, which it reports verbatim with dates.
- Series are truncated client-side per country at the latest-richest slice (multi-disaggregation indicators return both-sexes rows first where available).

### Recipes

1. **Agent tool (MCP)** — sourced health answers for any country, indicator and year.
2. **Public-health watch** — NGOs and ministries watch their indicators (cholera, malaria, coverage) and get pinged on releases or revisions.
3. **Journalism data-pulls** — country comparison series, exportable, every row linked to WHO.

### Pricing

| event | price |
|---|---|
| Actor start | $0.001 |
| WHO health datapoint | $0.001 / row |

Typical runs: indicator search ×10 ≈ **$0.011** · weekly monitor with one new figure ≈ **$0.002**.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

search = find WHO indicators by keyword · dataset = pull a country series · monitor = alert on new/revised values for watched indicators.

## `query` (type: `string`):

(search) Keywords matched against indicator names + code, e.g. "life expectancy" or "tuberculosis".

## `indicatorCode` (type: `string`):

(dataset/monitor) WHO GHO code from search mode, e.g. WHOSIS_000001 (life expectancy at birth).

## `countries` (type: `string`):

(dataset) Comma-separated ISO3 codes like MAR,FRA,USA — empty = all countries (use maxResults).

## `yearFrom` (type: `string`):

(dataset) Only observations from this year forward, e.g. 2015.

## `watchIndicators` (type: `array`):

(monitor) Specs: "CODE@COUNTRY" or "CODE@C1,C2" or bare "CODE" (all countries). Each run checks the latest value per country and alerts on new or revised WHO figures. Example: \["WHOSIS_000001@MAR", "SA_0000001699@MAR,DZA"].

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Cap rows returned per run (each billed row $0.001).

## `requestDelaySecs` (type: `number`):

Politeness delay between WHO API requests. Keep >= 0.2.
