## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper – Real Article URLs & Full Text

Search Google News in any country and language and get every headline with its **real publisher URL** — not the `news.google.com/rss/articles/…` redirect other scrapers return — plus the source, publish time, related coverage and, if you want it, the full article text.

No API key, no login, no browser.

### What you get

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `title`, `source`, `sourceUrl` | The headline and who published it (Google's " - Publisher" suffix is split off) |
| `url`, `urlResolved` | The publisher's own article URL, decoded from Google's redirect |
| `publishedAt` | When Google indexed it |
| `relatedCoverage` | For big stories, the other outlets Google groups with it |
| `query`, `edition`, `position` | Which search found it, in which country edition, at what rank |
| `googleNewsUrl` | The original Google News link, always kept |

#### With full article text turned on

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `articleText`, `wordCount` | The article body as clean paragraphs — no menus, footers, cookie banners or "Advertisement" labels |
| `articleHeadline`, `articleSummary`, `articleImage` | From the publisher's own page |
| `author`, `publisherPublishedAt`, `language` | Byline, the publisher's exact timestamp and the page language |

### Input

```json
{
  "queries": ["bitcoin ETF", "\"OpenAI\" intitle:funding"],
  "editions": ["US", "GB", "DE"],
  "timeRange": "7d",
  "includeArticleText": true,
  "excludeSources": ["yahoo.com"]
}
```

- **Queries** work exactly like the Google News search box: `"exact phrase"`, `OR`, `-exclude`, `intitle:`, `site:`.
- **Editions** by country code — US, GB, CA, AU, IN, DE, FR, ES, IT, NL, TR, BR, MX, JP, KR and many more. Every query runs in every edition.
- **Top stories** returns each edition's current front page.

### Common uses

- **Brand and competitor monitoring** — schedule a daily run with `timeRange: "1d"`
- **PR and media tracking** — see which outlets covered a launch, with direct links for your report
- **AI and RAG pipelines** — clean, dated article text with source attribution
- **Market and trading signals** — fresh headlines per ticker or topic, in every market's language

### Notes and limits

- Google News returns up to 100 articles per query and edition. Narrow the time range or split the query to go further.
- Paywalled publishers may give only the opening paragraphs. Pages that build their text with JavaScript may come back without `articleText`; the headline and URL are always delivered.
- If Google does not return a publisher URL for an article, `url` stays empty, `urlResolved` is `false` and the Google News link is kept.
- Independent tool. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Google.

### Pricing

Pay per article returned. The full article text is a separate, optional event, charged only when text is actually extracted. Status records are free. You can cap spend per run with **Max cost per run** in the Apify Console.

### Support

Something missing or wrong? Open an issue on the **Issues** tab with the input you used and the run ID.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

One per line, exactly as you would search on Google News. Operators work: "exact phrase", OR, -exclude, intitle:, site:.

## `editions` (type: `array`):

Which Google News editions to search, by country code: US, GB, DE, FR, TR, IN, BR, JP… Every query runs in every edition. Advanced: the form US:en.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Only articles published in this period.

## `includeTopStories` (type: `boolean`):

Also return each edition's current top headlines.

## `site` (type: `string`):

Limit every query to one publisher, for example reuters.com.

## `excludeSources` (type: `array`):

Drop articles from these publishers — a domain (yahoo.com) or the source name as Google shows it.

## `maxItemsPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Google News returns up to 100 articles per query and edition. Narrow the time range or split the query for more.

## `resolveUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Replace Google's news.google.com redirect links with the publisher's own URL.

## `includeArticleText` (type: `boolean`):

Open each article and add its body text, author, image and publisher timestamp. Paywalled sites may return only the opening paragraphs. Charged as a separate event.

## `includeRelatedCoverage` (type: `boolean`):

For big stories, the other publishers Google groups with the headline.

## `dedupe` (type: `boolean`):

When the same article appears in several queries or editions, keep it once.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify Proxy is recommended.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Lower it if URL resolution starts failing.
