# FDIC BankFind Institution Normalizer (`anderson-data-tools/glacier-lean-3`) Actor

Find and normalize FDIC BankFind institutions by certificate number or state. Export bank names, locations, source update dates and data vintage with bounded pagination. Includes official-source evidence; not a bank safety or deposit coverage determination.

## Pricing

$2.00 / 1,000 bank records

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## FDIC BankFind Institution Normalizer

Look up FDIC-insured institutions by certificate or state using the official BankFind API. Get normalized records with source dates, data vintage, and bounded pagination.

### Input example

```json
{
  "certificate": "3510"
}
```

Provide a certificate number (kept as a string) or a two-letter state code. You may provide both to narrow the query. `max_records` defaults to 100 and is capped at 1,000; `page_size` controls requests from 1 to 100. `active_only` defaults to `false` and preserves the source's literal active flag.

### Output example

Selected fields from a recorded local SDK result on October 11, 2026 UTC. The FDIC may update records after this run; the sample is not a current status guarantee.

```json
{
  "record_id": "3510",
  "outcome": "ok",
  "billable": true,
  "message": "Official institution record; not a bank safety or deposit coverage determination.",
  "certificate": "3510",
  "name": "Bank of America, National Association",
  "active": true,
  "state": "NC",
  "city": "Charlotte",
  "postal_code": "28202",
  "source_updated_at": "2026-06-29",
  "source_vintage": "institutions_20261009090008",
  "source_total": 1,
  "truncated": false,
  "record_url": "https://banks.data.fdic.gov/bankfind-suite/bankfind/details/3510",
  "retrieved_at": "2026-10-11T03:03:36.085759+00:00"
}
```

Each returned institution is one dataset row. The output preserves the FDIC certificate, literal active status, source record date, source vintage, retrieval time, and source hash. The record date and retrieval time describe different things.

### Result meaning and limits

`ok` means the requested official snapshot returned a validated institution record. `no_match` means the official snapshot returned zero records; its message names the source and retrieval date, and it is free. `uncertain` means the source, page sequence, or response did not support a complete result; its message begins `uncertain - please check` and it is free. If results exceed `max_records`, rows include `truncated: true`; narrow the filter before treating the list as complete.

Uses the [FDIC BankFind API](https://api.fdic.gov/banks/docs). This Actor returns institution-directory fields only. It does not assess solvency, bank safety, deposit coverage, branches, or financial performance. Optional source fields may be absent. No accuracy rate or agency endorsement is claimed; verify important information with the FDIC.

### Pricing

The `bank-record` event costs **$0.002 per returned institution**, with platform usage included. No-match and uncertain results are free.

The maximum event charge per run is **$2.00** at the 1,000-record limit. Narrower results cost up to $0.002 per institution returned. Each new run can incur new event charges.

# Actor input Schema

## `certificate` (type: `string`):

Exact FDIC certificate, as a string. Provide certificate or state.

## `state` (type: `string`):

Two uppercase letters, for example NC.

## `active_only` (type: `boolean`):

Filter the literal FDIC ACTIVE field. This is not a safety rating.

## `max_records` (type: `integer`):

Stops at this cap; output flags truncated when more records exist.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "certificate": "3510",
  "active_only": false,
  "max_records": 100
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "certificate": "3510"
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("anderson-data-tools/glacier-lean-3").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
Clients without OAuth support can send an `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_API_TOKEN>` header instead, using a token from API & Integrations in Apify Console (https://console.apify.com/settings/integrations).
