## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## EU Funding Finder | Horizon Europe Grants and Calls

Search the official **EU Funding & Tenders Portal** (SEDIA) for open and forthcoming grant calls by keyword, deadline, and status, and get clean, structured JSON back. The Actor queries the same public search API that powers the portal, then normalizes every call into a consistent record with the call ID, title, next deadline, budget, eligibility snippet, and a direct link.

It is built for grant consultants, startups, universities, NGOs, and AI agents that need to monitor EU funding opportunities such as Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, LIFE, and Erasmus+ without clicking through the portal.

### What you get per call

- `call_id` and `call_title`, plus the parent `call_name` and `call_identifier`.
- `status`: open or forthcoming (or closed if requested).
- `next_deadline` and the full `deadlines` list, `deadline_model` (single-stage, two-stage, multiple cut-off), and `open_date`.
- `budget_eur` for competitive calls, and `min_contribution_eur`, `max_contribution_eur`, `expected_grants` for Horizon topics.
- `eligibility_snippet` and `description_snippet` as plain text, with HTML removed.
- `action_type`, `programme_period`, and portal `keywords`.
- `url` that opens the call in the Funding & Tenders Portal.

### Input

```json
{
  "keywords": ["artificial intelligence", "battery"],
  "status": "upcoming",
  "deadlineAfter": "2026-11-01",
  "sortBy": "deadline",
  "limit": 25
}
```

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `keywords` | Search terms. Each is searched separately, merged, and de-duplicated. Empty lists every call matching the status. |
| `status` | `upcoming` (open + forthcoming, default), `open`, `forthcoming`, `closed`, or `any`. |
| `deadlineAfter` / `deadlineBefore` | Optional date range filter (YYYY-MM-DD) on call deadlines. |
| `sortBy` | `deadline` (soonest first) or `relevance`. |
| `limit` | Maximum calls returned and charged, 1 to 500. |

For open and forthcoming calls, calls whose deadlines have all passed are removed automatically, so your results stay actionable.

### Pricing

Pay-per-event pricing:

- **Actor start:** $0.02 once per run.
- **Funding call found:** $0.005 per call returned.

A search returning 25 calls costs $0.02 + 25 × $0.005 = **$0.145**. A weekly monitor with 10 new calls costs about **$0.07** per run. Because you pay per returned call, you can cap spending with `limit` or the run's maximum cost setting. Searches with no matches are not charged beyond the start fee.

### Typical use cases

- Weekly alerts for new calls in your sector, scheduled with Apify Schedules and sent to Slack or email via webhook.
- Feeding a grant-matching pipeline or CRM with fresh opportunities.
- Letting an AI agent answer "which EU calls close in the next 60 days about hydrogen?" with verifiable links.

### Data source and limits

Data comes from the public portal search API; no login or scraping of rendered pages is needed. Budget fields are only present when the portal publishes them for a call, so some records have `null` budgets. Snippets are short excerpts, not a replacement for reading the official call text. Always verify eligibility and deadlines on the portal before applying.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Search terms such as 'artificial intelligence' or 'battery storage'. Each keyword is searched separately and results are merged and de-duplicated. Leave empty to list all calls matching the status filter.

## `status` (type: `string`):

Which calls to include. 'upcoming' means open plus forthcoming.

## `deadlineAfter` (type: `string`):

Only calls with a deadline on or after this date (YYYY-MM-DD). For open and forthcoming calls the default is today.

## `deadlineBefore` (type: `string`):

Only calls whose next deadline is on or before this date (YYYY-MM-DD).

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

Sort by soonest deadline, or keep the portal's relevance ranking.

## `limit` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of calls returned (and charged).

## `timeoutSeconds` (type: `integer`):

HTTP timeout per request to the portal search API.
