## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Scrape public Instagram profiles without logging in, without API keys and without giving the Actor any cookies. Paste usernames or profile URLs and get one row per profile with followers, following, posts count, full name, bio, bio links, verified and private flags, story highlights and the 12 latest posts (shortcode, URL, type, caption, image and date). Schedule it and every row carries the growth since the previous run: influencer vetting, creator tracking, brand monitoring and competitor benchmarks at $0.003 per profile.

The Actor reads exactly what Instagram shows to a logged-out visitor on the profile page, through residential connections that Instagram does not block, so results are the public numbers you see in the browser.

### What you get

**Profile**:

- `username`, `fullName`, `id`, `url`, `avatar`.
- `followers`, `following`, `posts` (the posts total is the figure Instagram publishes on the page; large accounts show rounded values such as `32K`).
- `bio`, `bioLinks` (title and URL of every link in the bio), `externalUrl` (the first one).
- `verified`, `private`, `pronouns`, `highlights` (titles of the story highlights), `hasReels`.

**Latest posts** (`latestPosts`, up to 12, newest first): `code`, `url`, `type` (`image`, `video` or `carousel`), `productType` (`feed`, `clips` for reels, `carousel_container`), `caption`, `postedOn` (date from Instagram's accessibility text, `YYYY-MM-DD`), `image`, `username` (the author, which differs from the profile on collaboration posts). Likes and comments of each post are not on the profile page; use the Instagram Post Scraper for them.

**Growth** on scheduled runs: `followersChange`, `followingChange`, `postsChange` (null on the first run).

Private accounts return their public counters and bio with `private: true` and no posts. Accounts that do not exist return a row with an `error` field and are not charged.

### How to use it

1. Open the **Input** tab.
2. Add **Usernames or profile URLs**: `nasa`, `@natgeo` or `https://www.instagram.com/nike/`, one per line (up to 1,000 per run).
3. Click **Start** and export the rows as JSON, CSV or Excel.
4. Schedule the Actor (for example daily) to track follower growth and new posts over time.

### Input

```json
{
  "usernames": ["nasa", "natgeo"]
}
```

| Field | Description |
|-------|-------------|
| `usernames` | Instagram usernames, `@usernames` or profile URLs. Up to 1,000 per run. |

### Output example

```json
{
  "username": "nasa",
  "fullName": "NASA",
  "url": "https://www.instagram.com/nasa/",
  "bio": "Making the seemingly impossible, possible. ✨",
  "bioLinks": [{ "title": "NASA.gov Homepage", "url": "https://www.nasa.gov" }],
  "verified": true,
  "private": false,
  "followers": 104362417,
  "following": 90,
  "posts": 4965,
  "highlights": ["Roman", "Wallpapers", "Artemis III"],
  "latestPosts": [
    {
      "code": "DeTUk4sDSp-",
      "url": "https://www.instagram.com/reel/DeTUk4sDSp-/",
      "type": "video",
      "productType": "clips",
      "caption": "POV: you're watching the Earth set",
      "postedOn": "2026-10-10",
      "image": "https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/v/...",
      "username": "nasa"
    }
  ],
  "followersChange": 12480,
  "followingChange": 0,
  "postsChange": 1
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

- **Profile scraped**: $0.003 per profile returned.
- **Stats changed**: $0.0005 per profile whose followers, following or posts count changed since the previous run (scheduled runs only).

Profiles that cannot be scraped (non-existent accounts) are free. 1,000 profiles cost $3.

### Tips

- Combine it with the **Instagram Post Scraper** to get likes, comments, tagged users and media of the posts listed in `latestPosts`.
- Use the **Instagram Hashtag Scraper** to discover creators by topic and then vet them here.
- Export `latestPosts` to JSON when you need the post list; CSV flattens it into one column per field.

### Limitations

- Instagram shows logged-out visitors the 12 latest posts only; older posts, stories, followers lists and comments are not available.
- Counters are the public ones: posts total may be rounded on very large accounts, and like counts live on each post page.
- The Actor respects Instagram's pace: expect roughly one profile per second.
