## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Turn news articles, blog posts and press releases into clean, structured rows. Paste article URLs and get the headline, author, publisher, publish and update dates, section, tags, main image, language, the full text without menus, ads or cookie banners, the same content as Markdown, the word count, the reading time and a short excerpt. Media monitoring, content research, LLM and RAG pipelines, newsletters and archives at $0.002 per article.

The Actor reads the public page, picks the article body (dropping navigation, sidebars, footers and widgets) and completes the fields from the structured data publishers embed for search engines (JSON-LD NewsArticle and Article, Open Graph, news meta tags). No browser, no login.

### What you get

**Article** (one row each): `headline`, `author`, `publisher`, `siteName`, `publishedAt`, `modifiedAt`, `section`, `keywords`, `articleType` (NewsArticle, Article, BlogPosting... when declared), `image`, `description`, `excerpt`, `language`, `canonical`.

**Content**: `text` (clean plain text), `markdown`, `wordCount`, `readingTimeMin`, `truncated`, `mainContentUsed`, `likelyJsRendered`, `links`, `images`.

**Source**: `url`, `finalUrl`, `status`. **Changes** on scheduled runs: `contentChanged` is true when the text or headline differs from the previous run.

Pages without readable text (paywalls, JavaScript-only sites) return a row with `likelyJsRendered` or an `error` field and are not charged.

### How to use it

1. Open the **Input** tab.
2. Add **Article URLs**, one per line (up to 500 per run).
3. Optionally cap **Max Markdown characters**.
4. Click **Start** and export the rows as JSON, CSV or Excel.
5. Schedule the Actor to be told when an article is edited.

```json
{
  "articleUrls": ["https://blog.apify.com/what-is-web-scraping/"],
  "maxChars": 100000
### Pricing
Pay per event: **$0.002 per article** and **$0.001 per monitored article whose content changed** on a scheduled run. Pages without readable text are free. 1,000 articles cost $2.00.
### Limits and notes
- Paywalled articles return only what the publisher shows to visitors.
- Dates come from the publisher's structured data and are kept as published (usually ISO 8601).
- The Actor never bypasses logins, CAPTCHAs or rate limits.
### Related Actors
- **Page to Markdown**: any page as Markdown for LLMs.
- **Website to Markdown**: whole sites as Markdown.
- **Google News Scraper**: headlines by keyword to feed this Actor.
- **Website Monitor**: changes on any page.
