## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Audit the on-page SEO of a whole website or section in one run. Give it a start URL and the Actor crawls up to 500 pages of the same site (respecting robots.txt) and checks every page for the issues that cost rankings: missing or long titles and meta descriptions, missing or multiple H1, images without alt text, missing canonical or canonical pointing elsewhere, noindex, missing viewport or lang, missing Open Graph, thin content, broken internal links, insecure resources on HTTPS pages, slow responses and heavy HTML. Each row has the measurements, the list of issues and a score from 0 to 100, plus site-level checks (robots.txt, sitemap.xml). Schedule it to catch regressions after every deploy: agencies, in-house SEO teams, developers and site owners.

No browser, no third-party API. You pay $0.01 per page.

### What you get

One Dataset row per page:

- `url`, `requestedUrl` (when redirected), `status`, `responseMs`, `htmlBytes`, `https`.
- `title`, `titleLength`, `metaDescription`, `metaDescriptionLength`, `canonical`, `canonicalMatches`, `robotsMeta`, `noindex`, `lang`, `viewport`.
- `h1`, `h1Count`, `h2Count`, `wordCount`, `imagesCount`, `imagesWithoutAlt`.
- `internalLinks`, `externalLinks`, `nofollowLinks`, `brokenInternalLinks` (URLs that returned 4xx/5xx or failed).
- `ogTitle`, `ogDescription`, `ogImage`, `twitterCard`, `structuredData` (JSON-LD types), `hreflangCount`, `mixedContent`.
- `issues` (plain-English list), `issuesCount`, `score` (0 to 100).
- Site level on every row: `pagesCrawled`, `averageScore`, `robotsTxt`, `sitemapXml`.
- `issuesChanged`: `true` when the page's issues differ from the previous run (fixes and regressions).

### How to use it

1. Open the **Input** tab.
2. Add **Start URLs**: the home page for a whole site, or a section such as `https://www.example.com/blog/`.
3. Set **Max pages per site** and keep **Stay within the start URL** on to audit only that section.
4. Click **Start**. Sort the rows by `score` or filter `issuesCount > 0`, and export to CSV or Excel for your report.
5. Schedule it weekly or after deploys; rows with `issuesChanged: true` tell you what got better or worse.

### Input

```json
{
  "startUrls": ["https://www.example.com/"],
  "maxPages": 100,
  "stayInPath": true
}
```

| Field | Description |
|-------|-------------|
| `startUrls` | Sites or sections to audit. Up to 20 per run. |
| `maxPages` | Pages per site, 1 to 500. Default 50. |
| `stayInPath` | Only pages under the start URL path. Default `true`. |

### Output example

```json
{
  "startUrl": "https://crawlee.dev/js/docs/guides/",
  "pagesCrawled": 10,
  "averageScore": 93,
  "robotsTxt": true,
  "sitemapXml": false,
  "url": "https://crawlee.dev/js/docs/guides",
  "status": 200,
  "responseMs": 289,
  "title": "Guides | Crawlee for JavaScript · Fast, reliable crawlers.",
  "titleLength": 64,
  "metaDescriptionLength": 142,
  "h1Count": 1,
  "wordCount": 480,
  "imagesWithoutAlt": 0,
  "internalLinks": 58,
  "brokenInternalLinks": [],
  "structuredData": ["WebPage"],
  "issues": ["title too long (64 chars, max 60)"],
  "score": 95
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

- **Page audited**: $0.01 per page. A 300-page site costs $3.
- **Issues changed**: $0.005 per page whose issues changed since the previous scheduled run.

Pages that cannot be fetched are free. Comparable audit tools charge $0.04 per page.

### Use it as an API

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/aolmo~seo-audit/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"startUrls": ["https://www.example.com/"], "maxPages": 50}'
```

### FAQ

**Does it render JavaScript?** No. It audits the HTML as search engine crawlers first see it, which is what matters for titles, metas, canonicals, links and structured data.

**Does it check external links?** It counts them; it only verifies internal links (every link to a page of the same site that was crawled or failed).

**How is the score calculated?** 100 minus a penalty per issue: 30 for an HTTP error, 15 for a missing title, 10 for a missing description, H1, HTTPS, slow response or broken links, 5 for canonical, viewport, alt text, thin content, mixed content or heavy HTML, and less for the rest.

**Where is the data stored between runs?** In a Key-Value Store of your account named `micro-saas-state-seo-audit`, one key per start URL.
