## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Maps Scraper: leads with phones, websites and emails

Get business leads from Google Maps: name, phone, website, full address, rating, reviews, opening hours and category for every place in a search. Turn on **Find emails and social links** and the Actor also visits each business website to collect email addresses and Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, TikTok and Pinterest links.

You pay only for real, unique places. Duplicates, filtered places and failed requests are free, and limits are exact.

### What you can use it for

- **Lead generation**: build lists of dentists, plumbers, restaurants or any local business with phone numbers and emails.
- **Sales prospecting**: find businesses in a city, zip code or neighborhood and load them into your CRM.
- **Market research**: count competitors per area, compare ratings and review counts.
- **Local SEO**: check categories, ratings and opening hours of businesses in your niche.
- **Data enrichment**: paste Google Maps place links and get structured data back.

### How to use it

1. Enter one or more **search terms**, for example `dentist` or `coffee shop`.
2. Enter one or more **locations**, for example `Austin, TX` or `78704`. Each term runs once per location.
3. Set **Max places per search** and turn on **Find emails and social links** if you want contacts.
4. Click **Start**. Download the results as Excel, CSV, JSON or HTML, or get them through the API.

Google Maps shows up to about 250 places for one search. For more, split a city into zip codes or neighborhoods; places found twice are saved once.

### Input

| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | What to search for, e.g. `dentist` | |
| `locations` | Where to search, e.g. `Austin, TX`. One search per term per location | |
| `maxPlacesPerSearch` | Places saved per search, enforced exactly (1 to 500) | 50 |
| `includeContacts` | Visit each website (up to 3 pages on the same domain) for emails and social links | off |
| `startUrls` | Google Maps search or place links | |
| `minRating` | Only places with at least this rating | any |
| `skipClosed` | Skip places marked permanently closed | on |
| `language` | Language of categories and hours, e.g. `en`, `es`, `de` | `en` |

Example input:

```json
{
    "searchTerms": ["dentist"],
    "locations": ["Austin, TX"],
    "maxPlacesPerSearch": 20,
    "includeContacts": true
}
```

### Output

One row per place. Example from a live run (shortened):

```json
{
    "placeId": "ChIJZUcojGPKRIYRzcMs0RVjV3Y",
    "name": "Austin Dental Works",
    "category": "Dentist",
    "categories": ["Dentist", "Cosmetic dentist", "Dental clinic", "Dental implants provider"],
    "address": "4601 N Lamar Blvd #503, Austin, TX 78751",
    "street": "4601 N Lamar Blvd #503",
    "city": "Austin",
    "state": "Texas",
    "postalCode": "78751",
    "countryCode": "US",
    "lat": 30.3150192,
    "lng": -97.7355807,
    "phone": "(512) 877-9822",
    "phoneInternational": "+15128779822",
    "website": "https://www.austindentalworks.com/",
    "rating": 4.9,
    "reviewsCount": 636,
    "openingHours": [{ "day": "Monday", "hours": "8 AM-4 PM" }, { "day": "Tuesday", "hours": "8 AM-4 PM" }],
    "permanentlyClosed": false,
    "googleMapsUrl": "https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Austin%20Dental%20Works&query_place_id=ChIJZUcojGPKRIYRzcMs0RVjV3Y",
    "rank": 3,
    "searchString": "dentist in Austin, TX",
    "emails": ["info@austindentalworks.com"],
    "facebook": "https://www.facebook.com/AustinDentalWorks",
    "instagram": "https://www.instagram.com/austindentalworks",
    "linkedin": null,
    "websitePagesVisited": 3
}
```

Businesses that serve customers at their location but hide their address on Google (many plumbers, cleaners, movers) have a phone and website but no address fields.

Fields: `placeId`, `cid`, `name`, `category`, `categories`, `address`, `street`, `neighborhood`, `city`, `state`, `postalCode`, `countryCode`, `lat`, `lng`, `phone`, `phoneInternational`, `website`, `rating`, `reviewsCount`, `priceLevel` (only when Google includes it in search results, which is rare, so it is usually empty), `openingHours`, `permanentlyClosed`, `timezone`, `googleMapsUrl`, `rank`, `searchString`, `scrapedAt`. With contacts on: `emails`, `facebook`, `instagram`, `linkedin`, `twitter`, `youtube`, `tiktok`, `pinterest`, `websitePagesVisited`.

Each run also writes a `SUMMARY` record to the key-value store with, per search: places requested, found, delivered, skipped (duplicates, below min rating, closed) and why it stopped.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$1.50 per 1,000 places** (`place`), plus **$1.00 per 1,000 places with contacts found** (`place-contacts`, only when an email or social link was found). No start fee. Your spending limit is respected exactly.

### Fair billing

- No charge for duplicates: a place found by two searches is saved and charged once.
- No charge for places removed by your filters (rating, permanently closed).
- No charge for failed requests or empty searches. When Google finds nothing and offers one unrelated place instead, that guess is dropped.
- Contacts are charged only when at least one email or social link was found.
- Limits are exact: ask for 20 places, get 20, never 21.
- The run stops cleanly at your spending limit, without going over.

### Integrations

- **API**: run the Actor and read results with the Apify API or the JavaScript and Python clients.
- **Zapier, Make, n8n**: start runs and send new leads to Google Sheets, HubSpot, Pipedrive or any app.
- **MCP**: use the Actor from AI assistants through the Apify MCP server.
- **Webhooks**: get notified when a run finishes.

### FAQ

**How many places can I get per search?**
Google Maps lists up to about 250 places for one search. Use more specific locations (zip codes, neighborhoods) to cover a whole city. Duplicates across searches are removed for free.

**How are emails found?**
With contacts on, the Actor opens the business website from Google Maps, then up to 2 contact or about pages on the same domain. It reads email links, visible addresses and social profile links. It never leaves the business's own domain.

**Why do some places have no email?**
Many small businesses do not publish an email on their website, or have no website at all. You are not charged for contacts in that case.

**Can I paste Google Maps links?**
Yes. Search links (`google.com/maps/search/...`) are paged like a normal search. Place links (`google.com/maps/place/...` or `maps.app.goo.gl/...`) return that one place.

**Does it work outside the US?**
Yes. Use any location, e.g. `Berlin` or `Shoreditch, London`, and set `language` for local category names.

**Do I need a proxy or a Google account?**
No. The Actor uses Apify residential proxies on its own and never logs in.

**Is scraping Google Maps legal?**
The Actor reads only public business listings. Emails can be personal data under laws such as GDPR, so make sure you have a legitimate reason to contact people and follow local anti-spam rules.

**What happens if Google blocks a request?**
The request is retried on a fresh IP. If a search still fails, it is reported in the log and the SUMMARY, and nothing is charged for it.
