## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Trending Now — trending searches by country

**What people are searching on Google right now, in any country.** Each row is one trending search with its approximate search volume, the time it started trending, and the news headlines Google links to it. For SEO and content teams, newsrooms, marketers and AI agents that need to know what is hot today.

**Quick start:** press **Start** with no configuration. It returns the current trending searches in the United States and the United Kingdom. Then type the countries you care about: `US`, `th`, `Thailand` and `United Kingdom` all work.

### Sample output

| country | rank | trend | approxTraffic | startedAt | top news source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| US | 1 | jadan baugh | 500+ | 2026-10-31T15:00:00Z | Florida Gators |
| US | 2 | john kerry | 200+ | 2026-10-31T15:00:00Z | CNN |
| US | 3 | tesla cybertruck | 200+ | 2026-10-31T15:00:00Z | supercarblondie.com |
| US | 4 | esteban ocon | 500+ | 2026-10-31T15:00:00Z | Motorsport.com |
| GB | 1 | west ham | 2000+ | 2026-10-31T15:00:00Z | BBC |
| GB | 2 | colchester vs walsall | 200+ | 2026-10-31T15:00:00Z | BBC |

These rows come from a run on 31 October 2026.

Every row also carries `approxTrafficMin` (the volume as a number: `2000+` becomes `2000`), `picture` and `pictureSource`, a `news` list of `{ title, url, source }`, and `trendsUrl`, a link that opens the trend in Google Trends for a human to explore. A row with three headlines is about 1.6 KB, so a whole country fits easily in an AI agent's context.

### What you can do with it

- **Write about what people are searching today.** Pick a trend, read the linked headlines, publish while it is still rising.
- **Compare countries.** Run `["US", "GB", "DE", "JP"]` together and see which stories cross borders.
- **Watch for your topic.** Set `keywords` to your brand or market and schedule the run hourly; trends that do not match are not charged.
- **Give an AI agent today's context.** One call answers "what is trending in Thailand right now?" with sources it can cite.

### Input

| Field | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `countries` | `["US", "GB"]` | Two-letter codes or English names, any case. Unknown entries are skipped with a reason. |
| `maxTrendsPerCountry` | `25` | Google's feed lists 10 trends per country (every country we checked on 31 Oct 2026), so 10 is the practical maximum. |
| `newsPerTrend` | `3` | 0 to 5 headlines per trend. |
| `keywords` | `[]` | Keep only trends whose search term or headlines contain one of these words. |

### Every country gets an answer

A country that is not recognised, or that Google publishes no Trending Now feed for, is skipped and named in the `SUMMARY` record with the reason. The other countries still run. The run fails only when no country could be read, and then it says why in plain words.

### How it works

The Actor reads Google Trends' **Trending Now RSS feed** (`trends.google.com/trending/rss?geo=XX`), one request per country. The feed is published for feed readers; robots.txt disallows only the `/explore` pages, which this Actor never fetches. No login, no cookies, no API key.

### Pricing

You pay per trend returned: **$3 per 1,000 trends**. Skipped countries and trends removed by your keyword filter cost nothing. The run respects your spending limit.

### FAQ

**Why at most 10 trends per country?** That is what Google's feed publishes. The Trending Now page can show more, but it is a page for humans, not a feed, and this Actor does not scrape it.

**Is the search volume exact?** No. Google gives a bucket such as `200+` or `2000+`. `approxTrafficMin` is that bucket's lower bound as a number, so you can sort by it.

**How fresh is it?** As fresh as Google's feed at the moment of the run. `startedAt` is the time Google gives for each trend.

**Can I get historical trends?** No. This Actor returns what is trending now; schedule it to build your own history.

# Actor input Schema

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Countries to read, as two-letter codes (US, GB, TH) or English names (Thailand, United Kingdom). Lowercase is fine. Each country's feed lists Google's current trending searches there. An unknown entry is skipped with a reason; the rest still run.

## `maxTrendsPerCountry` (type: `integer`):

Return at most this many trends from each country, in Google's order. Google's feed currently lists 10 per country, so anything above 10 returns all of them.

## `newsPerTrend` (type: `integer`):

How many of the news articles Google links to each trend to include, 0 to 5. Each has its title, URL and publisher.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Keep only trends whose search term or news headlines contain one of these words (case-insensitive). Leave empty to keep every trend. Filtered trends are not charged.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "countries": [
    "US",
    "Thailand",
    "de"
  ],
  "maxTrendsPerCountry": 5,
  "newsPerTrend": 1,
  "keywords": [
    "election",
    "iphone"
  ]
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `rows` (type: `string`):

What people are searching on Google right now, in any country

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Countries requested and read, countries skipped with the reason, trends found and delivered, and trends removed by the keyword filter.
