## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## DOT Bid Results Scraper – WSDOT Bid Tabulations & Caltrans Bid Results

Pull **state Department of Transportation bid results** into clean JSON, CSV or Excel. Each record includes the contract number, project title, bid opening date, engineer's estimate, every bidder with its bid amount and rank, the low bidder, and how far the low bid came in under or over the estimate. Built for **heavy-civil contractors, estimators, materials suppliers, subcontractors, construction-data providers and bid-alert services**.

### Sources

| Agency | What you get | Source |
|---|---|---|
| **WSDOT** (Washington) | Highway construction **bid tabulations**: engineer's estimate, all bidders with addresses and WSDOT contractor numbers, contract totals, % vs. estimate, award date | Official WSDOT bid tabulation PDFs (public) |
| **Caltrans** (California) | Weekly **procurement and service contract bid results**: contract number, description, district, bidders, small-business (SB) flag, bid amounts | dot.ca.gov weekly bid results pages |

More DOTs are planned. TxDOT is not included because its current results are only available in an interactive Tableau dashboard.

### Use cases

- **Competitive intelligence:** see who bid, what they bid and how often they win. Filter by `bidderContains` to track a competitor.
- **Estimating:** compare low bids with engineer's estimates to calibrate your pricing.
- **Sales prospecting:** materials suppliers and subcontractors can find the contractors who just won work.
- **Market reports:** analyze letting volume and bid spreads by region and month.
- **Alerts:** schedule weekly runs with `sinceDate` and push results to Slack, email or Google Sheets.

### Try it free in 1 click

The input form is **prefilled with a small, working example**. Press **Start** without changing anything: the run returns the 10 most recent WSDOT and Caltrans bid results. Our test run of exactly this input finished in about 43 seconds with 10 results. At list price that is about $0.20, which fits inside the free monthly credit of Apify's free plan. Then swap in your own values.

Prefilled input:

```json
{
  "agencies": [
    "WSDOT",
    "Caltrans"
  ],
  "maxResults": 10
}
```

### Sample output

Real rows from the prefilled run on 2026-10-14 (5 of 10 results shown; long fields trimmed). Download the full dataset as JSON, CSV or Excel.

}
```
### Notes
- WSDOT occasionally posts a bid tab as a scanned, image-only PDF. Those contracts are still returned, with `parseStatus: "image-only-pdf"` and the PDF link, so nothing is silently dropped.
- Caltrans results are preliminary, as posted by Caltrans, and may change after bid review.
- One result = one contract, with all of its bidders.
### Use it as an MCP tool (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, any AI agent)
This Actor works as a tool in the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com), so an AI agent can call it directly and you pay per result, the same as a normal run. Add this server URL to any MCP client:
```
https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=appetizing_horsefly/dot-bid-results
```
Sign in with your Apify account (or pass your Apify API token as a Bearer header). The agent reads the input fields above from the Actor's input schema. Example request to the agent: "Show Caltrans bid results since September 1 where a given contractor bid, with the low bid versus the engineer's estimate."
