## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## TTB Alcohol Permits Scraper – US Importers, Wholesalers, Wineries & Distilleries

Get the **official US federal alcohol permit list** (TTB Federal Basic Permits) as clean, structured data: **84,000+ licensed alcohol importers, wholesalers, wineries and distilleries** with business name, DBA, full premises address, state, ZIP and county. Updated weekly by TTB; this Actor fetches the latest files on every run.

### Why use it

- **Beverage distributors & importers** – find new wineries/distilleries to sign, map competitors by state.
- **B2B sales leads** – POS systems, packaging, labels, insurance, payroll, logistics, compliance software: target newly permitted businesses first.
- **Market research** – count producers by state/county, track new permits week over week.
- **Data enrichment** – verify that a counterparty holds a federal permit.

### Features

- Filter by **permit type** (importer, wholesaler, distillery, winery, Puerto Rico) and **state**.
- **New-permit monitoring**: enable *Only new permits since last run* and schedule weekly – you get only permits that appeared since the previous run (history kept in a named key-value store). Or use *New since date*.
- Normalized fields, zero-padded ZIPs, `firstSeenDate` tracking.
- Fast: full list in ~30 s, no browser, no proxies.

### Try it free in 1 click

The input form is **prefilled with a small, working example**. Press **Start** without changing anything: the run returns 20 federal TTB alcohol permits for California. Our test run of exactly this input finished in about 4 seconds with 20 results. At list price that is about $0.20, which fits inside the free monthly credit of Apify's free plan. Then swap in your own values.

Prefilled input:

```json
{
  "states": [
    "CA"
  ],
  "maxItems": 20
}
```

### Sample output

Real rows from the prefilled run on 2026-10-14 (5 of 20 results shown; long fields trimmed). Download the full dataset as JSON, CSV or Excel.

```
Export to CSV, Excel, JSON or via API / integrations (Google Sheets, Zapier, Make).
### Pricing
Pay per result – about **$10 per 1,000 permits**. Use state/type filters or *new only* mode to pay only for what you need.
### Notes
- Source: public FOIA lists published by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) at ttb.gov (US government work, public domain). This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by TTB.
- TTB does not publish brewers (protected by IRC §6103), so breweries are not included. County is self-reported by permittees.
- `firstSeenDate` is null for permits present at your first run (baseline).
- Only business data as published by TTB is returned.
### Use it as an MCP tool (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, any AI agent)
This Actor works as a tool in the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com), so an AI agent can call it directly and you pay per result, the same as a normal run. Add this server URL to any MCP client:
```
https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=appetizing_horsefly/ttb-alcohol-permits
```
Sign in with your Apify account (or pass your Apify API token as a Bearer header). The agent reads the input fields above from the Actor's input schema. Example request to the agent: "List TTB-permitted wineries and distilleries in Oregon, with premises address and county."
# Actor input Schema
## `permitTypes` (type: `array`):
Leave empty for all US types.
## `states` (type: `array`):
2-letter codes, e.g. CA, NY. Empty = all.
## `onlyNewSinceLastRun` (type: `boolean`):
First run: uses TTB's 'new permit' flag. Later runs: permits not seen in previous runs (diff stored in key-value store).
## `newSinceDate` (type: `string`):
Only permits first seen on/after this date (requires previous runs to have built history).
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Maximum number of permits to return. 0 means no limit. You are charged per permit returned, so set a cap to control cost. Default 100 keeps a first try cheap; set 0 for no cap.
## `stateStoreName` (type: `string`):
Named key-value store that keeps permit history for new-permit detection.
