## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does Jumia Product Scraper do?

**Jumia Product Scraper** extracts product data from public [Jumia](https://www.jumia.com.ng/) category pages: **prices, old prices and discounts, ratings, review counts, brands, seller IDs, images and badges**. It works on the Jumia storefronts in **Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Uganda, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia and Algeria**, and it is a practical **Jumia API alternative** for teams that need structured marketplace data without an official feed.

The Actor reads only public, logged-out pages. It follows Jumia's published scraping policy: it **identifies itself honestly as a bot** (with a contact URL), stays well below the **200 requests per minute** limit Jumia asks for, and obeys `robots.txt`. It does not log in, does not solve CAPTCHAs and does not try to defeat bot protection.

### Why scrape Jumia?

Jumia is the largest e-commerce marketplace in Africa. Product and price data helps with:

- **Price monitoring and repricing** across Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Morocco.
- **Market research**: which brands dominate a category, how deep discounts go, how many sellers compete.
- **Catalogue enrichment and lead lists** for brands, distributors and logistics partners.
- **Trend tracking**: schedule the Actor daily and compare snapshots to spot price drops.

Running on Apify gives you scheduling, API access, webhooks, integrations (Make, Zapier, Google Sheets), run monitoring and dataset export in JSON, CSV, Excel and HTML.

### What data can Jumia Product Scraper extract?

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `productId` | string | Jumia SKU (for example `XI363MP809NCTNAFAMZ`) |
| `title` | string | Full product title |
| `url`, `imageUrl` | string | Product page and main image |
| `price`, `priceMax`, `currency`, `priceText` | number / string | Current price (lowest price when a range is shown), ISO currency, text as displayed |
| `oldPrice`, `discountPercent` | number | Crossed-out price and discount shown on the card |
| `rating`, `reviewCount` | number | Average rating (0-5) and number of ratings |
| `brand`, `category`, `categoryPath` | string | Brand and category taxonomy |
| `sellerId` | string | Seller identifier from the listing |
| `isOfficialStore`, `isJumiaExpress`, `badges` | boolean / array | Official Store, Jumia Express and campaign badges |
| `country`, `domain`, `page`, `position`, `listingUrl`, `scrapedAt` | mixed | Where and when the row was collected |

With **Include product details** switched on, each row is enriched from the product page: `seller` (name), `sellerUrl`, `availability`, `description`, `images` (gallery), `sku`, `breadcrumbs` and an exact `rating` / `reviewCount`.

### How to scrape Jumia

1. Open the Actor and go to the **Input** tab.
2. Paste one or more Jumia **category URLs**, for example `https://www.jumia.com.ng/smartphones/` or `https://www.jumia.co.ke/televisions/`. You can mix countries in one run.
3. Set **Maximum products** (default 100).
4. Optional: enable **Include product details** to add seller names, descriptions and image galleries (one extra request per product).
5. Click **Start**, then download the dataset as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read it through the API.

#### Can I search Jumia by keyword?

Not with this Actor. Jumia's `robots.txt` disallows its search URLs (`/catalog/` and `q=`), so the Actor refuses them. Use category URLs instead; Jumia's category tree is deep (for example `/smartphones/`, `/laptops/`, `/televisions/`, `/sneakers/`). Facet and sort URLs are also disallowed by Jumia's `robots.txt`, so the Actor reads the default ordering of each category.

#### How many products can I get per category?

Jumia shows about 40 products per page and exposes up to 50 pages per category, so roughly 2,000 products per category URL. Use several category or sub-category URLs for more.

### How much does it cost to scrape Jumia?

The Actor is designed for **pay per result**: one billable event for each product row saved to the dataset. The exact price per 1,000 results is shown in the **Pricing** tab of the Actor. Set **Maximum products** to cap your spend; the Actor also stops by itself when your configured maximum charge for the run is reached. Pages are fetched at a polite pace (about 40 products every few seconds), so runs of a few hundred products finish in under a minute.

### Input

See the **Input** tab for every option. The main fields:

```json
{
  "startUrls": [{ "url": "https://www.jumia.com.ng/smartphones/" }],
  "maxItems": 100,
  "includeProductDetails": false
}
```

- `startUrls`: category listing pages, or a single product page URL for one product.
- `maxItems`: maximum unique products across all URLs.
- `maxPagesPerUrl`: pages to read per URL (Jumia allows up to 50).
- `maxConcurrency` and `maxRequestsPerMinute`: politeness limits (defaults 3 and 60).
- `contactUrl`: added to the User-Agent so Jumia can contact the bot owner. Replace it with your own site if you like.
- `proxyConfiguration`: optional. A proxy changes only the IP the requests come from.

### Output

You can download the dataset in various formats such as JSON, HTML, CSV or Excel. Example rows from real runs on `jumia.com.ng/smartphones/` and `jumia.co.ke/smartphones/`:

```json
[
  {
    "productId": "XI363MP809NCTNAFAMZ",
    "title": "Redmi 15C 6.9'' 4GBRAM/128GB ROM Android 15 -Midnight Black",
    "url": "https://www.jumia.com.ng/xiaomi-redmi-15c-6.9-4gbram128gb-rom-android-15-midnight-black-418597148.html",
    "price": 183704,
    "currency": "NGN",
    "priceText": "₦ 183,704",
    "oldPrice": 195000,
    "discountPercent": 6,
    "rating": 4.1,
    "reviewCount": 791,
    "brand": "XIAOMI",
    "sellerId": "458700",
    "isOfficialStore": true,
    "isJumiaExpress": true,
    "country": "Nigeria",
    "page": 1,
    "position": 1
  },
  {
    "productId": "SA948MP5POCTWNAFAMZ",
    "title": "Samsung Galaxy A07 4G, 6.7\", 64GB + 4GB RAM (Dual SIM), 5000mAh, Black (2YRs WRTY)",
    "price": 15300,
    "currency": "KES",
    "oldPrice": 18500,
    "discountPercent": 17,
    "rating": 4.4,
    "reviewCount": 220,
    "brand": "Samsung",
    "country": "Kenya",
    "page": 1,
    "position": 1
  }
]
```

A `RUN_SUMMARY` record in the key-value store lists pages fetched, products saved, blocked requests and why the run stopped.

### Tips

- Add sub-category URLs (for example `/smartphones/samsung/`) to go beyond the 50-page limit of one category. Brand pages containing `--` are disallowed by Jumia's `robots.txt`.
- Keep **Include product details** off unless you need seller names or descriptions; it multiplies the request count.
- Schedule daily runs and compare `price` per `productId` to build a price history.
- If a run reports that Jumia refused access (a Cloudflare challenge page), do not retry in a loop. The Actor stops by design after three consecutive blocked responses and never attempts to bypass the challenge.

### FAQ, disclaimers and support

**Is scraping Jumia legal?** Jumia's `robots.txt` states that scraping is permitted for clearly identified bots below 200 requests per minute, and this Actor follows those conditions. You remain responsible for how you use the data and for complying with Jumia's terms and local law.

> Our Actors are ethical and do not extract any private user data, such as email addresses, gender, or location. They only extract what the user has chosen to share publicly. We therefore believe that our Actors, when used for ethical purposes by Apify users, are safe. However, you should be aware that your results could contain personal data. Personal data is protected by the GDPR in the European Union and by other regulations around the world. You should not scrape personal data unless you have a legitimate reason to do so. If you're unsure whether your reason is legitimate, consult your lawyers.

Seller names are business names shown publicly on product pages. The Actor does not collect reviewer names or review text.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Public Jumia category or listing pages to scrape, for example https://www.jumia.com.ng/smartphones/ . Works on Jumia Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Uganda, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia and Algeria. A product page URL returns that single product. Search URLs (/catalog/?q=) are not supported because Jumia's robots.txt disallows them.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many unique products have been saved across all URLs. Each saved product is one billable result.

## `maxPagesPerUrl` (type: `integer`):

Maximum listing pages to read for each category URL. Jumia shows about 40 products per page and exposes at most 50 pages per category.

## `includeProductDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Open every product page to add the seller name and URL, availability, description, image gallery, SKU and exact rating. This makes one extra request per product, so the run is slower.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many pages may be requested in parallel. Keep this low to stay polite.

## `maxRequestsPerMinute` (type: `integer`):

Upper limit on requests per minute across the whole run. Jumia asks bots to stay under 200 requests per minute; the default is 60.

## `contactUrl` (type: `string`):

Jumia requires scrapers to identify themselves honestly. This URL is added to the User-Agent header so the site operator can contact the bot owner. Replace it with your own website or contact page if you prefer.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional proxy settings. Leave disabled to connect directly. The Actor never solves CAPTCHAs or bypasses challenges; a proxy only changes the IP address the requests come from.
