## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Congressional Trades Scraper

Extract US Congress stock trades and financial disclosures from the free Bargo Congress Trades API. House + Senate, normalized JSON. No browser, no proxy, no PDF parsing.

### What does Congressional Trades Scraper do?

Scrape every publicly disclosed stock trade by members of the US Congress under the STOCK Act, in four modes:

- **Trades** — the global trade feed, or filtered by ticker, member, chamber, transaction type, and date range.
- **Members** — every tracked member of Congress with trade counts, buy/sell breakdown, and last-trade date.
- **Member detail** — one member's full profile plus every disclosed trade.
- **Stats** — aggregate dataset statistics and freshness.

The data comes from the **Bargo Congress Trades API**, a free, keyless-by-default REST service that normalizes official House Clerk and Senate eFD disclosures into a single JSON schema. No API key required to try it — a free key raises daily quotas.

### Technical details

- **Bargo Congress Trades API** — `https://www.bargo.ai/free-apis/congress/v1`. Free, keyless by default, normalized JSON.
- **Official sources** — House Clerk (`disclosures-clerk.house.gov`) + Senate eFD (`efdsearch.senate.gov`), normalized by Bargo.
- **No PDF parsing** — Bargo returns structured data directly. Unlike other actors that download and parse PTR PDFs, this actor works entirely through the JSON API.
- **No browser, no proxy** — pure REST.
- **Free tier:** 30 requests/day, 100 rows/day (keyless). **Free key:** 100 requests/day, 1,000 rows/day. Get one at `https://www.bargo.ai/free-apis/dash`.
- **Coverage window:** last 3 months of disclosures on the free tier.

### Known limits

- **Free tier is row-limited.** Keyless: 100 rows/day. Free key: 1,000 rows/day. For production runs (10,000+ trades), you'll need to supply a key or split across days.
- **3-month window.** The Bargo free tier covers the last 3 months of disclosures. Older trades are not available through this actor.
- **Anonymous requests share an IP quota.** Without a key, all Apify users share the same IP-based quota — a free personal key eliminates that contention.
- **No historical archive.** For trades older than 3 months, the House Clerk ZIP archive and Senate eFD are the upstream sources. Those require PDF parsing and are not covered by this actor.
- **Late-filing flag depends on Bargo's normalization.** Fields like `isLateFiling` and `daysToDisclose` are computed by Bargo, not the raw filing.

### FAQ

**Do I need an API key?** No — the Bargo API is keyless by default. A free key raises the daily quota from 100 to 1,000 rows.

**Do I need a proxy?** No. Datacenter IPs are accepted.

**Does this cover both chambers?** Yes — House and Senate, in one normalized schema.

**How do I get a free key?** Visit `https://www.bargo.ai/free-apis/dash` and register.

**How do I get older data?** For pre-3-month disclosures, the upstream sources are House Clerk (`disclosures-clerk.house.gov/public_disc/financial-pdfs/{YEAR}FD.zip`) and Senate eFD (`efdsearch.senate.gov`). Those require PDF parsing and are out of scope for this actor.

**How do I export data?** After a run, go to Storage → Export as JSON, CSV, Excel.
