## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper

Extract Google News articles by keyword, topic, or custom RSS feed. Resolves Google News redirect URLs to the publisher's real article URL. Optional full article text extraction. Pure RSS, no browser, no proxy.

### What does Google News Scraper do?

Scrape Google News in three modes:

- **Search** — keyword queries against Google News's search feed. Supports date range filtering and any country/language combination.
- **Topics** — pull Google News's curated topic feeds: WORLD, NATION, BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY, ENTERTAINMENT, SPORTS, SCIENCE, HEALTH.
- **Custom RSS URLs** — paste any Google News RSS URL directly.

For every article you get: title, snippet, source/publisher, publish date, Google News URL, **resolved publisher URL**, and optional **full article text**.

Google News exposes public RSS feeds at `news.google.com/rss` — the actor fetches them directly via HTTP. No browser, no proxies, no CAPTCHA. Google is the *aggregator*; the RSS feed itself is unblocked.

### Output fields

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| title | Article headline |
| snippet | Short description from the feed |
| source | Publisher name |
| sourceUrl | Publisher homepage |
| publishedAt | ISO 8601 publication date |
| pubDateRaw | Original RSS pubDate string |
| googleNewsUrl | Google News redirect URL |
| publisherUrl | Resolved publisher article URL (when `resolvePublisherUrls` is on) |
| fullText | Full article body (when `includeFullText` is on) |
| query | The search query, topic, or RSS URL that produced this article |
| language | Language code of the run |
| country | Country code of the run |

### Who is it for?

- **Brand and PR monitoring teams** tracking media mentions across thousands of outlets
- **Financial analysts** building real-time news feeds for event-driven trading signals
- **AI and RAG developers** sourcing fresh, dated news corpora for training and grounding
- **Content teams** tracking competitor coverage and industry announcements
- **Journalists** monitoring beat keywords across Google News's entire publisher network
- **Market researchers** measuring coverage volume by topic, region, or outlet

### Pricing

**$0.90 per 1,000 results.** No subscription.

| Results | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 | $0.09 |
| 1,000 | $0.90 |
| 10,000 | $9.00 |

### How to use it

1. Enter one or more **Search Queries**, or pick **Topics**, or paste **Custom RSS URLs**.
2. Set **Language** and **Country** (defaults: `en-US` / `US`).
3. Enable **Resolve Publisher URLs** to get the real article URL instead of Google's redirect.
4. Optionally enable **Extract Full Article Text** (slower, may hit paywalls).
5. Click **Start**.

```
### Technical details
- Built on **Google News's public RSS feeds** (`news.google.com/rss`) — no scraping, no anti-bot
- **No proxy needed** by default. Google News RSS is reachable from Apify datacenter IPs, confirmed by multiple competitor actors.
- **Publisher URL resolution** follows Google News redirects and reads the canonical link as a fallback — a feature most competitors do not offer
- **Full-text extraction** pulls `articleBody` from JSON-LD and falls back to common article-body containers
- Supports **any language/country** combination via `hl`, `gl`, and `ceid` query parameters
- **Date-range filtering** on publish timestamps
### Known limits
- **Google News RSS caps ~100 items per feed.** For deeper coverage, split queries by day or sub-keyword.
- **Publisher URL resolution requires a redirect round-trip.** Slower but produces usable URLs. Disable it if you only need the Google News redirect.
- **Full-text extraction is best-effort.** Paywalled publishers (WSJ, NYT, FT) may return a partial preview.
- **Google may apply per-IP rate limits** on RSS bursts. The actor backs off on 429 and retries.
### FAQ
**Do I need an API key?** No. Google News RSS is public.
**Do I need a proxy?** No. Google News RSS accepts datacenter IPs.
**What's the difference between `googleNewsUrl` and `publisherUrl`?** `googleNewsUrl` is Google's redirect (opaque encoded link). `publisherUrl` is the real article URL at the outlet — what you want for downstream processing.
**Why is `fullText` empty?** Either `includeFullText` is disabled, or the publisher blocked the fetch (paywall/bot protection). Most free outlets work; paywalled ones may not.
**How do I get historical news?** Google News RSS returns recent items (~100 max). For historical archives, pair this actor with publisher-specific scrapers or news archive APIs.
**How do I export data?** After a run, go to Storage → Export as JSON, CSV, Excel.
