# Open Graph & Social Preview Checker (`autoloom/og-social-preview-checker`) Actor

Check how a page will look when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack, Discord and WhatsApp. Reads the Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, fetches the real preview image to check its true size, and lists what to fix per platform.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Open Graph & OG Tags Social Preview Checker

**Open Graph & Social Preview Checker** is a bulk OG tags checker and link preview checker. For any list of URLs it reads the **Open Graph and Twitter Card tags**, then **downloads the preview image and measures its real pixel size and file size**. You get a pass or fail for Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack, Discord and WhatsApp, plus a fix list. It catches images that are too small, broken or the wrong shape, not just the size the page claims.

> **Pricing:** pay per result: $2.00 per 1,000 results ($0.20 per 100, $20.00 per 10,000), plus $0.00005 per run start. One result = one URL checked.

### What data you get (one row per URL)

| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| `url`, `statusCode` | The page and its HTTP status |
| `og` | Open Graph tags: title, description, image, url, type, siteName, declared width and height |
| `twitter` | Twitter Card tags: card, title, description, image, site |
| `pageTitle`, `metaDescription` | The page's own title and meta description |
| `image` | The preview image as actually downloaded: url, statusCode, bytes, contentType, **real width, height and ratio** |
| `platforms` | `pass` or `fail` for facebook, linkedin, twitter, slack, discord, whatsapp |
| `issues`, `issueCount` | Plain-English fix list |
| `goodPreview` | `true` when no issues were found |

### What it checks

- Missing `og:title`, `og:description`, `og:image` or `og:url`
- Missing `twitter:card` (X then falls back to a small preview)
- Preview image tiny (under 200×200), or below the recommended 1200×630
- Preview image larger than 8 MB (Facebook may skip it)
- `og:image` that cannot be read (broken URL, blocked, or unsupported format)

Platform verdicts:

| Platform | Pass when |
|---|---|
| Facebook, LinkedIn | Title, description and image present, and the real image is at least 600×315 |
| X / Twitter | A card (or the core OG tags) plus an image |
| Slack, Discord, WhatsApp | A title and an image |

### How to use it

1. Paste your URLs into **URLs to check**.
2. Leave **Fetch and measure the preview image** on (the default) to get real image sizes.
3. Click **Start**, then filter on `goodPreview = false` for your fix list.

### Input example

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    { "url": "https://apify.com" },
    { "url": "https://example.com/blog/launch-post" }
  ],
  "checkImage": true
}
```

### Output example

A real row from a test run on `https://apify.com` (14 Oct 2026), shortened:

```json
{
  "url": "https://apify.com",
  "statusCode": 200,
  "og": {
    "title": "Apify: Marketplace of ready-to-run tools for AI",
    "image": "https://apify.com/og-image?title=Thousands+of+tools%0Afor+your+AI",
    "url": "https://apify.com",
    "type": "website",
    "siteName": "Apify",
    "declaredWidth": "1200",
    "declaredHeight": "630"
  },
  "twitter": { "card": "summary_large_image", "site": "" },
  "image": {
    "statusCode": 200,
    "bytes": 52012,
    "contentType": "image/png",
    "width": 1200,
    "height": 630,
    "ratio": 1.9
  },
  "platforms": { "facebook": "pass", "linkedin": "pass", "twitter": "pass", "slack": "pass", "discord": "pass", "whatsapp": "pass" },
  "issues": [],
  "issueCount": 0,
  "goodPreview": true
}
```

### Pricing

| URLs checked | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 | $0.20 |
| 1,000 | $2.00 |
| 10,000 | $20.00 |

One result per URL, plus $0.00005 per run start. Apify's free plan includes monthly platform credit you can use to try it, and free-plan users get the same features.

### Use it with the API, Make, Zapier or Google Sheets

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/autoloom~og-social-preview-checker/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"startUrls":[{"url":"https://apify.com"}],"checkImage":true}'
```

Send results to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier or n8n through Apify's integrations, or run it before every campaign launch.

### FAQ

**Why download the image instead of reading og:image:width?** Declared sizes are often missing or wrong. The real pixel size decides whether a network shows a large card or a small thumbnail.

**Does it clear the Facebook or LinkedIn cache?** No. It shows what your tags say now. If a network still shows an old preview, use that network's own debugger to refresh it.

**Does it render JavaScript?** No. It reads the HTML the server returns, which is what the social networks' crawlers read too.

**Are the platform rules official?** They are our own checklist, based on each network's published image guidance and listed above, so you can see exactly why a URL failed. Networks change their rules, so treat a fail as a strong hint rather than a guarantee.

**Is it legal?** It reads public pages and their public preview images, the same as a browser. Only check sites you have the right to access.
