## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## SEO Meta Tag Extractor & On-Page SEO Audit

**SEO Meta Tag Extractor** runs an on-page SEO audit on any list of URLs. For each page you get the title, meta description, canonical, robots, headings, hreflang, Open Graph and structured data, **plus a 0–100 SEO score, an A–F grade and a plain-English list of fixes**. It uses plain HTTP with no headless browser, so large URL lists stay fast and cheap.

> **Pricing:** pay per result: $1.50 per 1,000 results ($0.15 per 100, $15.00 per 10,000), plus $0.00005 per run start. You only pay for rows in your dataset.

### What data you get (one row per URL)

| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| `seoScore`, `seoGrade` | 0–100 score and A–F grade, from the issues found |
| `issues`, `issueCount` | Plain-English list of every problem, e.g. "No H1 heading" |
| `title`, `titleLength` | Page title and its length (flagged over 60 characters) |
| `metaDescription`, `metaDescriptionLength` | Meta description and length (flagged over 160) |
| `canonical` | Canonical URL; flagged if it points to a different URL |
| `robots`, `noindex` | Robots meta and a simple noindex flag |
| `viewport`, `lang` | Mobile viewport tag and the `<html lang>` value |
| `h1`, `h1Count`, `headingOutline`, `headingCounts` | Full H1–H6 outline with counts |
| `hreflang`, `hreflangCount` | hreflang tags, with an `x-default` check |
| `structuredDataTypes`, `hasStructuredData` | schema.org / JSON-LD types found on the page |
| `imagesTotal`, `imagesMissingAlt` | Image alt-text coverage |
| `ogTitle`, `ogDescription`, `ogImage`, `twitterCard` | Open Graph and Twitter Card tags |
| `wordCount` | Visible word count (thin content flagged under 300 words) |
| `statusCode` | HTTP status of the page |

### What the SEO audit checks

The score starts at 100 and drops for each problem found:

- HTTP error status (4xx/5xx)
- Page set to **noindex**
- Missing `<title>`, or a title longer than 60 characters
- Missing meta description, or one longer than 160 characters
- No H1 heading, or more than one H1
- Missing canonical, or a canonical that points to a different URL
- Thin content (under 300 words)
- Missing viewport meta tag (mobile)
- Missing `lang` attribute on `<html>`
- Images missing alt text (weighted by the share missing)
- An hreflang set with no `x-default`

### How to use it

1. Paste your URLs into **URLs to analyze** (one per line, or upload a list).
2. Click **Start**.
3. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Input example

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    { "url": "https://apify.com" },
    { "url": "https://example.com/blog/post" }
  ]
}
```

### Output example

A real row from a test run on `https://apify.com` (13 Oct 2026), shortened:

```json
{
  "url": "https://apify.com",
  "statusCode": 200,
  "title": "Apify: Marketplace of ready-to-run tools for AI",
  "titleLength": 47,
  "metaDescriptionLength": 143,
  "canonical": "https://apify.com",
  "robots": "index,follow",
  "lang": "en",
  "noindex": false,
  "h1Count": 1,
  "headingCounts": { "h1": 1, "h2": 11, "h3": 20, "h4": 3, "h5": 0, "h6": 0 },
  "ogImage": "https://apify.com/og-image?title=Thousands+of+tools%0Afor+your+AI",
  "twitterCard": "summary_large_image",
  "structuredDataTypes": ["Organization", "WebSite", "SoftwareApplication"],
  "imagesTotal": 78,
  "imagesMissingAlt": 0,
  "wordCount": 3159,
  "issues": [],
  "seoScore": 100,
  "seoGrade": "A"
}
```

A page with problems returns entries such as `"No H1 heading"`, `"Thin content (under 300 words)"` or `"Canonical points to a different URL"` in `issues`, with a lower score.

### Pricing

| URLs audited | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 | $0.15 |
| 1,000 | $1.50 |
| 10,000 | $15.00 |

One result per URL, plus $0.00005 per run start. Apify's free plan includes monthly platform credit you can use to try it. Free-plan users get the same features; nothing is held back.

### Use it with the API, Make, Zapier or Google Sheets

Run it and get the results in one call:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/autoloom~seo-meta-tag-extractor/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"startUrls":[{"url":"https://apify.com"}]}'
```

You can also connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets through Apify's integrations, or schedule it to re-audit your pages every week.

### FAQ

**Does it render JavaScript?** No. It reads the HTML the server returns, which is what most search engine crawlers see first. Pages that build their title and meta tags only in the browser may show as missing.

**What happens with sites that block bots?** The row still appears with the HTTP status the site returned (for example 403), so you can see which URLs could not be read.

**How many URLs can I audit?** There is no fixed limit; you pay per URL. Large lists run fine because no browser is used.

**Is the score the same as Google's?** No. It is a transparent checklist score built from the issues listed above, so you can see exactly why a page lost points. It is not a ranking prediction.

**Is it legal?** It reads publicly available pages, the same way a browser does. Only audit sites you have the right to access, and respect each site's terms.
