# Sitemap & URL Extractor (`autoloom/sitemap-url-extractor`) Actor

Find a website's sitemaps (from robots.txt or common paths), extract every URL with its lastmod, changefreq and priority, follow nested sitemap indexes, and optionally check each URL's live status and redirects. Falls back to the homepage's internal links when there's no sitemap.

## Pricing

from $0.30 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Sitemap & URL Extractor

Point it at a website and get **every URL the site publishes** — pulled from its sitemaps, with `lastmod`, `changefreq` and `priority`, following nested sitemap indexes automatically. Pure HTTP, fast and cheap.

> **Pricing:** pay per result: $0.30 per 1,000 results ($0.03 per 100, $3.00 per 10,000), plus $0.00005 per run start. You only pay for rows in your dataset.

### What it does

- Finds sitemaps from **robots.txt** and the common sitemap paths.
- Parses them — including **nested sitemap indexes** and **gzipped** sitemaps.
- Returns **one row per URL** with `lastmod`, `changefreq`, `priority` and which sitemap it came from.
- **Optional:** check each URL's **live status code and final (redirected) URL** — so you can spot dead and redirected pages in one pass.
- **No sitemap? It still works.** When a site has no usable sitemap, it falls back to the site's own internal links instead of giving up (most tools just return nothing).

### Why this one

- **Live status + redirect check built in** — most extractors only list URLs; this can tell you which actually work.
- **A real fallback** for sites without a sitemap, so you still get URLs.
- **Handles nested + gzipped sitemaps** that trip up simpler tools.

### Input

- `startUrls` — the websites to extract.
- `checkStatus` — also fetch each URL and record its status + final URL.
- `maxUrls` — cap per site.

### Output

One row per URL — exportable to JSON, CSV or Excel, or via the API.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

The websites whose URLs you want to extract.

## `checkStatus` (type: `boolean`):

Request every URL and record its HTTP status code and final (redirected) URL. Slower, but catches dead and redirected pages.

## `maxUrls` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many URLs per website.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    {
      "url": "https://apify.com"
    }
  ],
  "checkStatus": false,
  "maxUrls": 200
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `dataset` (type: `string`):

One row per URL found, with lastmod/changefreq/priority, the sitemap it came from, and (optionally) its live status and final URL.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "startUrls": [
        {
            "url": "https://apify.com"
        }
    ],
    "maxUrls": 200
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("autoloom/sitemap-url-extractor").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
