## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Amazon Best Sellers Scraper

**Track what's selling on Amazon** — scrape the **Best Sellers** and **New Releases** charts for any category, in any of **17 marketplaces**, with each product's **rank** and — unlike basic chart scrapers — **full product detail** (price, rating with star-by-star histogram, images, brand) for **every ranked item**, including the ranks below the visible fold that other scrapers leave blank. Data comes from Amazon's own chart pages and product API, so it's clean, structured, and login-free.

### Who it's for

- **Sellers & brands** watching their category's top ranks and new entrants.
- **Product researchers & sourcing teams** spotting trending, high-demand products.
- **Investors & analysts** tracking category demand and pricing.
- **Retail media & agencies** benchmarking category leaders.

### What you get (output fields)

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `rank` | Position in the chart (1 = top) |
| `asin` | Amazon product identifier |
| `title` | Product title |
| `brand` | Brand name |
| `price` / `price_text` / `currency` | Current price (numeric + display) |
| `rating` / `ratings_count` | Average rating and number of ratings |
| `rating_histogram` | % of reviews per star (5→1) |
| `image` / `main_image` / `images` | Product image URLs |
| `sales_rank_change_pct` | 24h sales-rank change when Amazon exposes it (often null on Best Sellers) |
| `list_type` | `bestsellers` or `new-releases` |
| `category` / `marketplace` / `url` | Category, marketplace code, product URL |

### Charts & categories

- **Chart types:** Best Sellers (top 100 by sales) and New Releases (top 100 newest hot products).
- **Categories:** pass slugs like `electronics`, `books`, `toys-and-games`, `home-garden`, `beauty`, or a node path like `electronics/172282`. You can also paste a full Best Sellers URL.
- **Marketplaces:** US, UK, CA, DE, FR, ES, IT, JP, IN, AU, MX, BR, NL, SE, PL, AE, SG.

### Example input

```json
{
  "listTypes": ["bestsellers", "new-releases"],
  "categories": ["electronics", "books"],
  "marketplace": "US",
  "maxItems": 100,
  "enrich": true
}
```

### Example output (one row)

```json
{
  "rank": 1,
  "asin": "B08JHCVHTY",
  "title": "Blink Plus Plan",
  "brand": "Blink",
  "price": 11.99,
  "currency": "USD",
  "rating": 4.4,
  "ratings_count": 280572,
  "rating_histogram": { "5": 76, "4": 12, "3": 5, "2": 2, "1": 5 },
  "sales_rank_change_pct": null,
  "list_type": "bestsellers",
  "category": "electronics",
  "marketplace": "US",
  "url": "https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JHCVHTY"
}
```

### Scheduling & webhooks

Schedule a **daily run** to build a time series of category ranks and prices, and use a **webhook** to push each dataset into your warehouse, Google Sheets, or Slack when the run finishes — ideal for trend dashboards and rank-tracking.

### Use it from AI assistants (MCP)

Output is standard JSON, so it drops straight into AI/agent pipelines and the Apify MCP server — ask an agent "what's trending in Home & Kitchen on Amazon UK today" and get a ranked, priced list back.

### FAQ

**Which charts are supported?** Best Sellers and New Releases, which Amazon serves as full HTML rankings. (Movers & Shakers / Most Wished For are rendered only after in-page scripts run and are not included.)

**How many products per chart?** Up to the top 100 (two pages of 50). Set `maxItems` to fetch fewer.

**What is "enrich"?** With enrichment on (default), every ranked ASIN — including ones below the visible fold — is filled with price, rating histogram, images and brand from Amazon's product API. Turn it off for a faster rank-only run.

**Do I need an Amazon account or API key?** No.

**How fresh is the data?** Live at request time; sales-rank movement reflects Amazon's own 24-hour comparison.

**Is scraping this legal?** The actor collects publicly available ranking data. You are responsible for using it in line with Amazon's terms and applicable law.

# Actor input Schema

## `listTypes` (type: `array`):

Which Amazon charts to scrape. Best Sellers = top 100 by sales; New Releases = top 100 newest hot products.

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Category slugs or paths (e.g. 'electronics', 'books', 'toys-and-games', or a node path like 'electronics/172282'). You can also paste a full Best Sellers URL. Leave the default for the overall chart's top category.

## `marketplace` (type: `string`):

Amazon marketplace. Charts, prices and currency are marketplace-specific.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

How many ranked products to return per chart+category (1–100; charts hold up to 100 = the top-100 ranking).

## `enrich` (type: `boolean`):

Fetch price, rating + star histogram, images and brand for every ranked item via Amazon's product API. Turn off for a faster, rank-only run (still includes rank, ASIN, and 24h sales-rank movement).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy settings. Datacenter Apify Proxy is enough and is enabled by default; you can disable it or supply your own.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "listTypes": [
    "bestsellers"
  ],
  "categories": [
    "electronics",
    "books"
  ],
  "marketplace": "US",
  "maxItems": 100,
  "enrich": true,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```
