## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Douyin Hot Search Tracker (抖音热搜)

Track what China is watching. This actor pulls **Douyin's trending search board** —
the ranked list of hot search terms surfaced in the Douyin app and website — with
each term's **hot value**, **rank label**, **video count**, and a stable id, so you
can build a Chinese social-trend time-series without an account or the app.

Douyin is China's TikTok (same parent, ByteDance) with ~750M daily users. Its
hot-search board is a real-time pulse of Chinese consumer attention — culture,
sports, news, brands, memes. Almost no tool exposes it in clean JSON. This one does.

### Who it's for

- **Trend & culture researchers** — quantify what's rising in China, hour by hour.
- **Brand & social teams** — catch trending topics and hashtags early for content.
- **Investors & analysts** — track attention around companies, products, events.
- **Data teams** — schedule it and append rows to a trend database.

### Output fields

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `rank` | Position on the board (1 = hottest) |
| `word` | The trending search term |
| `hotValue` | Douyin's popularity score for the term |
| `label` / `labelName` | Rank badge (raw code + name: new / hot / boom) |
| `videoCount` | Videos attached to the term on the board |
| `sentenceId` | Stable id for the trend entry |
| `queryUrl` | Ready-to-open Douyin search URL for the term |
| `capturedAt` | UTC timestamp of the capture (for time-series) |
| `type` | `hot_search` or `suggestion` |

Turn on **Also fetch search suggestions** and supply seed keywords to additionally
expand each keyword into Douyin's own search-box suggestions (`type: suggestion`).

### Example input

```json
{
  "board": "hot",
  "includeSuggestions": true,
  "suggestionKeywords": ["电影", "美食"],
  "maxItems": 50
}
```

### Example output row

```json
{
  "rank": 2,
  "word": "王曼昱晋级亚运会女单决赛",
  "hotValue": 11405747,
  "label": 0,
  "labelName": null,
  "videoCount": 8,
  "sentenceId": "...",
  "queryUrl": "https://www.douyin.com/search/王曼昱晋级亚运会女单决赛",
  "capturedAt": "2026-09-27T09:20:00Z",
  "type": "hot_search"
}
```

### Scheduling & webhooks

Schedule the actor (Apify **Schedules**) hourly or daily and each run appends a
timestamped snapshot to the dataset — a ready-made trend time-series. Attach a
**webhook** to push new snapshots into your own database or a Google Sheet.

### Use with AI / MCP

The dataset is clean JSON, ideal as a tool for an AI agent tracking Chinese
social trends. Point your MCP-enabled assistant at the actor's dataset, or call
the actor from the Apify MCP server.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Douyin account?** No. The board is public; the actor bootstraps its
own anonymous session.

**How fresh is the data?** Live at run time — it reads the same board the app
shows. Schedule it for a continuous series.

**How many terms per run?** The board returns roughly 50 terms; `maxItems` caps
the total (board + suggestions).

**Is this legal?** The actor reads publicly visible trending data. You are
responsible for using the output in line with Douyin's terms and your local laws.

**Reliability?** The hot-search endpoint is unsigned and stable; the actor also
works without a proxy, and retries transient blocks.

# Actor input Schema

## `board` (type: `string`):

Which trending board to pull. Douyin web currently exposes the main PC hot-search board.

## `includeSuggestions` (type: `boolean`):

When on, expands each seed keyword below into Douyin's own search-box suggestions.

## `suggestionKeywords` (type: `array`):

Seed keywords to expand into suggestions (only used when 'Also fetch search suggestions' is on). Max 20.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Optional cap on the total number of rows pushed. Leave empty for the full board.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy settings. The hot-search endpoint works without a proxy, but a proxy improves reliability under rate limits.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "board": "hot",
  "includeSuggestions": false,
  "suggestionKeywords": [
    "电影",
    "美食"
  ],
  "maxItems": 50,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```
