## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Expedia Hotel Scraper

Export Expedia hotel search results for any destination and travel dates as clean JSON, CSV or Excel: nightly price, total price including taxes and fees, guest rating, review count, photos and amenities. Switch on detail mode to add the street address, GPS coordinates, star class and the full amenity list.

The actor reads the same data the Expedia Android app shows. It needs no login, no cookies and no proxy.

### What you get

| Field | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `id` | string | Expedia property ID |
| `name` | string | Hotel name |
| `neighborhood` | string | Area or distance line from the result card, e.g. "6 min walk to Legian Beach" |
| `rating` | number | Guest rating on a 0-10 scale |
| `review_count` | integer | Number of guest reviews |
| `review_label` | string | Rating label, e.g. "Very Good" |
| `star_class` | number | Property class 1-5 (detail mode, only when Expedia publishes one) |
| `price_display` / `price_value` | string / number | Nightly rate as shown, before taxes and fees |
| `total_price_display` / `total_price_value` | string / number | Price for the whole stay with taxes and fees, as shown |
| `price_currency` | string | Currency of the prices (USD, expedia.com prices in US dollars) |
| `detail_url` | string | Expedia hotel page for your dates |
| `images` | array | Photo URLs (up to 30 in detail mode) |
| `amenities` | array | Amenity chips from the card; the full list in detail mode |
| `address` | string | Street address (detail mode) |
| `lat` / `lng` | number | GPS coordinates (detail mode) |
| `highlights` | array | Property highlights such as "White sand beach" (detail mode) |
| `checkin` / `checkout` | string | Dates searched |
| `scraped_at` | string | UTC timestamp |

Fields Expedia does not provide for a hotel come back as `null` (for example a new property without reviews, or a sold-out hotel without a price).

### Use cases

- **Price monitoring:** schedule a daily run per destination and compare nightly and total prices over time.
- **Market mapping:** collect every hotel in a city with ratings, review counts and amenities to study supply and quality.
- **Travel sites and apps:** fill a hotel directory with names, photos, coordinates and amenities.
- **Lead and competitor lists:** list the properties around an event venue or beach area.

### Input

| Parameter | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `destination` | City, region or neighborhood, e.g. `Miami`, `Paris`, `Las Vegas Strip`. Airports and stations are skipped. |
| `checkIn`, `checkOut` | `YYYY-MM-DD`. Leave empty for 7 and 8 days from today. Stays up to 28 nights. |
| `adults` | Adults in the one searched room (1-8). |
| `maxItems` | Hotels to collect (1-1000). Pages are fetched 50 at a time. Expedia's result list ends at some point: a Manhattan search returned 498 hotels in testing. |
| `sort` | Recommended, price low to high, price high to low, guest rating, distance from center, star class. |
| `fetchDetail` | Adds address, GPS, star class, full amenities, highlights and photos. Slower: roughly 1-2 seconds per hotel. |

Example:

```json
{
    "destination": "Miami",
    "checkIn": "2026-12-10",
    "checkOut": "2026-12-12",
    "adults": 2,
    "maxItems": 100,
    "sort": "PRICE_LOW",
    "fetchDetail": false
}
```

Example output row (shortened):

```json
{
    "id": "7378422",
    "name": "Best Western Plus Miami Executive Airport Hotel & Suites",
    "neighborhood": "Miami",
    "rating": 8.8,
    "review_count": 2852,
    "review_label": "Excellent",
    "price_display": "$91 nightly",
    "price_value": 91,
    "total_price_display": "$103 total",
    "total_price_value": 103,
    "price_currency": "USD",
    "amenities": ["Pool", "Free WiFi"],
    "checkin": "2026-10-18",
    "checkout": "2026-10-19"
}
```

### Scheduling and integrations

Use Apify schedules to run the actor daily or weekly, and webhooks or the Apify API to push the dataset to Google Sheets, a database or your own pipeline. Because check-in dates default to relative days, a schedule with empty dates always searches the coming week.

### Use it from AI agents

The dataset is available through the Apify API and the Apify MCP server, so an AI assistant can call this actor, wait for the run and read the rows.

### FAQ

**Which currency are prices in?** US dollars. The actor searches expedia.com, and Expedia ignores other currencies for that site.

**Why does the nightly price differ from the total?** The nightly figure is the base rate; the total includes taxes and fees for the whole stay, as Expedia shows them.

**Are these member prices?** The search is anonymous, so prices are what a logged-out visitor sees. Member-only discounts may not be reflected.

**Why is `star_class` often empty?** Expedia publishes a property class for only part of its hotels, and only on the detail request.

**Does it return room-by-room offers or reviews?** No. It returns one row per hotel.

**What happens if my destination is not found?** The run fails with a clear message. Try a different spelling or a nearby city.

**Is scraping Expedia allowed?** The actor collects publicly visible hotel information. You are responsible for using the data in line with Expedia's terms and applicable law.

# Actor input Schema

## `destination` (type: `string`):

City, region or neighborhood to search, e.g. 'Miami', 'Paris', 'Las Vegas Strip', 'Bali'. Airports and train stations are skipped; the first matching city or area is used.

## `checkIn` (type: `string`):

Check-in date as YYYY-MM-DD. Leave empty to use 7 days from today.

## `checkOut` (type: `string`):

Check-out date as YYYY-MM-DD, after the check-in date. Leave empty to use 8 days from today.

## `adults` (type: `integer`):

Number of adults in the room (1-8). One room is searched.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of hotels to collect. The actor pages through the results 50 at a time.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Sort order of the results.

## `fetchDetail` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the star class, street address, GPS coordinates, the full amenity list, highlights and up to 30 photos for each hotel. Slower: one extra request batch per hotel.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. Leave empty: the actor connects directly and moves to Apify Proxy residential on its own if Expedia rate-limits the IP. Set a proxy here to use it from the start. Expedia rate-limits Apify's shared datacenter IPs, so a datacenter choice still moves to residential on a 429.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "destination": "Miami",
  "adults": 2,
  "maxItems": 20,
  "sort": "RECOMMENDED",
  "fetchDetail": false
}
