## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does Decision Maker Finder by Domain do?

**Decision Maker Finder by Domain** turns a list of company website domains into the decision makers of those companies: founders, CEOs, the rest of the C-level, VPs and directors. Use it to find decision makers for sales prospecting, recruiting and account research — paste `acme.com`, get the leadership of Acme with job titles and LinkedIn profile URLs.

Answers come from our own database of business-contact records, so a run returns in seconds per company and needs no cookies, login or browser.

- One row per decision maker, ordered within the company: founder + CEO first, then other CEOs and founders, the rest of the C-level, VPs, directors.
- Each person once. The same person recorded twice is merged, and the most recently refreshed record wins.
- Assistants, "Office of the CEO" staff and chiefs of staff are removed — they are not the decision maker.
- Empty profiles (under 10 connections and no start date on the position) are always excluded.
- You pay only for people delivered. A domain with nobody found is a free row that says why.
- Up to 500 domains per run, from the form, the API or an MCP client.

No email addresses or phone numbers are returned by this Actor. Each row tells you whether a work or personal email is on record for that person, so you know who is reachable before you enrich.

### What data do you get from a domain?

| Field | Example | Filled |
|---|---|---|
| `domain` | `acme.com` | always |
| `companyName` | `Acme` | when the company record behind the domain could be read; most single-record companies |
| `companyEmployeeCount` | `240` | together with `companyName` |
| `fullName`, `firstName`, `lastName` | `Jane Doe` | always |
| `jobTitle` | `Co-Founder & CEO` | always |
| `seniority` | `founder`, `cxo`, `vp` or `director` | always |
| `headline` | `Co-Founder & CEO at Acme` | most rows |
| `linkedinUrl` | `https://www.linkedin.com/in/…` | always |
| `location`, `countryCode` | `Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands`, `nl` | most rows |
| `positionStartYear` | `2019` | when the start year is on record |
| `hasWorkEmail`, `hasPersonalEmail` | `true` / `false` | most rows; a flag only, not the address |
| `recordUpdatedAt` | `2026-04-05T09:45:30Z` | always — when this person's record was last refreshed |
| `_rank` | `1` | always — position within the company |
| `_status`, `_freshness`, `_note` | `found`, `updated_1y` | `_note` only when there is something to flag |

### How to find decision makers by domain (3 steps)

1. Paste company website domains into **Company website domains**, one per line.
2. Choose the roles that count as a decision maker for you and how many people you want per company, then press **Start**.
3. Export the dataset as CSV, Excel or JSON, or read it through the API.

### How much does it cost to find decision makers from a domain?

**$3.20 per 1,000 decision makers delivered** ($0.0032 per person), plus the small Actor start fee.

| Row | Price |
|---|---|
| Decision maker delivered (`_status: found`) | $0.0032 |
| Same person recorded twice | $0 — merged before delivery, never reaches your dataset |
| Domain no company on record uses (`unresolved_domain`) | $0 |
| Company matched, nobody at the chosen roles (`no_decision_makers`) | $0 |
| Domain shared by many unrelated companies (`domain_too_broad`) | $0 |
| Entry that is not a domain (`invalid`) | $0 |

`maxPerCompany` is your spend cap per company: at the default of 10, one domain costs at most $0.032. A list of 100 small companies typically delivers about 500 people, about $1.60.

### Input

```json
{
  "domains": ["acme.com", "https://www.example.org/about"],
  "roles": ["cxo", "founder", "vp", "director"],
  "maxPerCompany": 10,
  "titleKeywords": []
}
```

- `domains` — required. Company website domains, up to 500 per run. Full URLs are reduced to the domain and duplicates are removed.
- `roles` — which levels to include: `cxo` (C-level), `founder` (founders and owners), `vp`, `director`. Default: all four.
- `maxPerCompany` — how many people to deliver per domain, in rank order. Default 10, maximum 100.
- `titleKeywords` — optional. Keep only people whose job title contains any of these words, for example `marketing` or `finance`. Each entry 3–64 characters, up to 10.

### Output

A decision maker (fictional values):

```json
{
  "_status": "found",
  "_input": { "domain": "acme.com" },
  "_freshness": "updated_1y",
  "_rank": 1,
  "domain": "acme.com",
  "companyName": "Acme",
```json
{
  "_status": "no_decision_makers",
  "_input": { "domain": "example.org" },
  "_note": "no decision makers on record for this domain with these filters. If the company is well known, its profile may list another domain (brand.com vs brand-group.com) — try that one"
}
```
### FAQ
#### How do I find the decision makers of a company from its website?
Enter the company's website domain. The Actor matches the domain to the company record that uses it as its site and returns the people holding a founder, C-level, VP or director position there, ranked.
#### How often does the decision maker finder return someone for a domain?
Measured on our test sample of 45 company domains on 2026-09-30: **41 of 45 domains** returned the right company with at least one decision maker. A company of 10–200 people yields a **median of 5 unique decision makers** (range 3–13). About **9 in 10** returned people hold an open position at the company by our record.
Known misses: companies whose website is on one domain while their company profile lists another (the brand on one domain, the corporate site on a second). Those domains come back as a free `no_decision_makers` or `unresolved_domain` row — try the company's other domain.
#### How are very large companies handled?
For companies above roughly 5,000 employees the first rows are mostly regional and divisional heads, and the group's own chief executive is not reliably among them. Such rows are still delivered and carry a `_note` saying so. The Actor is at its best on companies up to a few thousand people.
#### Am I charged when nothing is found?
No. Unresolved domains, companies with nobody at the chosen roles, shared-platform domains and invalid entries are free rows with a `_status` and an explanation. Only `found` rows are charged.
#### Can I find decision makers in bulk?
Yes — up to 500 domains per run, pasted as a list or sent as a JSON array through the API. For a longer list, split it into several runs.
#### Does it need cookies, a login or an API key?
No. The Actor does not sign in to any website and asks for no credentials.
#### How fresh is the data?
Every row carries `recordUpdatedAt`, the date that person's record was last refreshed. Records refreshed in 2025 or later are ranked first; an older record is placed after them and flagged in `_note`, because older records are noticeably less likely to still be accurate. Records can be out of date — confirm a role before you rely on it.
#### Does it return emails or phone numbers?
No. It returns `hasWorkEmail` and `hasPersonalEmail` flags only. To get addresses, pass the `linkedinUrl` column to one of the email Actors below.
#### Is it legal to look up decision makers by domain?
The Actor returns business-role information from our own database. Whether your use is lawful depends on what you do with it and on the laws that apply to you — see "Disclaimer and permitted use" below.
### Use Decision Maker Finder by Domain with AI agents and MCP
This Actor works as a tool for AI agents. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any other MCP client through the Apify MCP server:
```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=b2bsearch/domain-to-decision-makers
```
- **Fast enough for a tool call.** A small request finishes in seconds, so the agent gets its answer inside one call.
- **The agent pays only for results.** Prices are per result (see the pricing section above) and every miss is a free row. Cap what one call may spend with `maxTotalChargeUsd`.
- **Rows explain themselves.** Each row has a `_status`; a row that is not a result says why in `_error`, so the agent can decide what to do next without guessing.
- **Bounded cost.** `maxPerCompany` limits how many rows one call can deliver and bill.
Input an agent can send as is:
```json
{
  "domains": [
    "linear.app"
  ],
  "roles": [
    "cxo",
    "founder",
    "vp",
    "director"
  ],
  "maxPerCompany": 10,
  "titleKeywords": []
}
```
The same Actor is available as a tool in LangChain, CrewAI and the OpenAI Agents SDK, and as a step in n8n, Make and Zapier through the Apify integrations.
# Actor input Schema
## `domains` (type: `array`):
One company per line, as its website domain (acme.com). Full URLs are accepted and reduced to the domain; duplicates are removed. Up to 500 domains per run. A domain no company on record uses comes back as a free "unresolved\_domain" row.
## `roles` (type: `array`):
Which seniority levels count as a decision maker for you. Rows are ordered founder + CEO first, then other CEOs and founders, the rest of the C-level, VPs, directors — so with all four selected a small cap returns the top of the company. Leave empty for all four.
## `maxPerCompany` (type: `integer`):
Deliver at most this many people per domain (default 10, maximum 100). You pay $0.0032 per person delivered ($3.20 per 1,000), so this is also your spend cap per company.
## `titleKeywords` (type: `array`):
Keep only people whose job title contains any of these words — for example marketing, finance, engineering (case-insensitive, 3–64 characters each, up to 10; an entry outside these rules stops the run before anything is charged). Applied together with the selected roles.
