## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does Companies Hiring Now do?

**Companies Hiring Now** turns a job search into the list of employers behind it: the companies hiring for a role in a country right now, most matching postings first, each with its company card (website, industry, headcount, country, HQ, funding), its hiring signal (open postings, how many it posted in the last 7, 30 and 90 days, the levels and the most posted titles of the last month) and the titles your search matched. Turn on `decisionMakers` and each employer is followed by the founders, C-level, VPs and directors to contact. Use it to find companies that are hiring sales reps, engineers or nurses this month and reach the people who decide.

Staffing agencies and job-board aggregators are left out by default: a list of "companies hiring account executives" that starts with three recruiting firms is the wrong list.

Answers come from our own database of 50M+ postings from the last 180 days: no cookies, no login, no proxies, and a search that matches nothing costs nothing.

- **$2.40 per 1,000 employers** with the card and the hiring signal; **$3.20 per 1,000 decision makers**. Jobs-to-companies products elsewhere start at $49–99 a month for 500–1,500 credits (prices read on 26 October 2026).
- **Count before you pay.** `previewOnly` returns how many employers and postings match and the breakdown by country, seniority, industry, top employers and titles, for free.
- **The signal, not just the list.** `openJobs`, `jobs7d`, `jobs30d`, `jobs90d`, `seniorities30d`, `topTitles30d` and `countries30d` on every employer: who is ramping up, who is winding down.

### What data do you get for each employer?

| Field | Example | Filled |
|---|---|---|
| `companyId`, `companyName`, `companyUrl` | `123456`, `Example Corp`, `https://www.linkedin.com/company/example-corp` | always |
| `companyDomain`, `companyIndustry`, `companyEmployeeCount`, `companyCountryCode` | `example.com`, `Software Development`, `1240`, `US` | the card is on 99% of employers |
| `company` | the full card: website, industry, headcount, HQ, founded, funding, description | same |
| `matchingJobs`, `openMatching` | `12`, `9` | always — postings of this employer your search matched, and how many are still open |
| `firstPostedAt`, `lastPostedAt` | `2026-09-28T08:00:00Z`, `2026-10-20T17:15:00Z` | always |
| `titles`, `countries` | `["Account Executive", "Senior Account Executive"]`, `["US"]` | always — up to five matched titles |
| `openJobs`, `jobs7d`, `jobs30d`, `jobs90d` | `57`, `4`, `19`, `61` | the hiring signal, all titles of the employer |
| `seniorities30d`, `topTitles30d`, `countries30d` | `["Mid-Senior level (11)", "Director (2)"]`, `["Account Executive"]`, `["US", "CA"]` | the last 30 days of the employer's postings |
| `_type`, `_status`, `_input` | `company`, `found`, the filters and `dataAsOf` | always |

Decision maker rows (`_type: decision_maker`) carry `fullName`, `firstName`, `lastName`, `jobTitle`, `seniority`, `headline`, `linkedinUrl`, `location`, `countryCode`, `positionStartYear`, `hasWorkEmail`, `hasPersonalEmail`, `recordUpdatedAt`, `_rank`, and `companyName` / `companyId` of the employer they belong to. The email that reaches the person today rides the row when one is on record and the contact tier is on.

### How to find companies hiring for a role (3 steps)

1. Enter the **job titles** they should be hiring for and the **country** (by name or code; add US states or cities inside it).
2. Choose the window (last week, month or 3 months), the levels and employment types, how many employers you want, and whether to add their **decision makers**; press **Start**.
3. Export the dataset as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read it through the API.

A country is required: employers are counted inside a country, over a window of at most 3 months.

### How much does it cost?

**$2.40 per 1,000 employers delivered** ($0.0024 each) and **$3.20 per 1,000 decision makers** ($0.0032 each), plus the Actor start fee of $0.0002 per run.

| Row | Price |
|---|---|
| Employer delivered (`_status: found`, `_type: company`), card and hiring signal included | $0.0024 |
| Decision maker delivered (`decisionMakers: true`), per person | $0.0032 |
| Preview and breakdown rows (`previewOnly`) | $0 |
| Search that matches no employer; employer with nobody at the chosen roles | $0 |

`maxCompanies` is your spend cap: at the default of 25 a run costs at most $0.06 for the employers, plus $0.0032 × `decisionMakersPerCompany` (default 3) per employer when the add-on is on — about $0.30 for 25 employers with three leaders each.

### Input

```json
{
  "jobTitles": ["account executive", "sales development representative"],
  "locations": ["United States"],
  "postedLimit": "month",
  "experienceLevel": ["mid-senior", "director"],
  "excludeAgencies": true,
  "maxCompanies": 100,
  "decisionMakers": true,
  "decisionMakerRoles": ["founder", "cxo", "vp"],
  "decisionMakersPerCompany": 3,
  "decisionMakerTitleKeywords": ["sales", "revenue"]
}
```

- `jobTitles` — words the title must contain, one query per line; an employer with a posting matching any line is kept. A line may use `AND`, `OR`, `NOT`, `"exact phrase"`, parentheses. Up to 10.
- `locations` — countries by name or code (`United States`, `Germany`, `gb`), plus US states or cities inside them. At least one country. Up to 60.
- `postedLimit` — `week`, `month` (default), `3months`; `postedLimitDate` takes a date instead, and with both the later bound wins.
- `employmentType`, `experienceLevel`, `industryIds` — count only postings of these types, levels and industries (the same values as the jobs scrapers; `industryIds` takes numeric ids or industry names).
- `excludeAgencies` — on by default: staffing firms and job-board aggregators by industry (the posting's and the employer's own card), by what the employer's description says it does, and by name, plus any employer with far more postings than employees (at least 200 open, or 100 posted in the last 30 days, and more than two per employee — recruiting firms and aggregators whose industry is not on record). Turn off to see them too.
- `maxCompanies` — employers per run, most matching postings first (default 25, `0` = up to 2,000). Free Apify plan: up to 100.
- `decisionMakers` — add each employer's leadership as rows of their own; `decisionMakerRoles` (`founder`, `cxo`, `vp`, `director`; default all), `decisionMakersPerCompany` (default 3, maximum 25), `decisionMakerTitleKeywords` (keep only titles containing any of these words).
- `previewOnly` — the counts and breakdown instead of the rows, free.

Free rows say why they are not a result: `no_results` (no employer posted a matching job in the window), `no_decision_makers` (an employer with nobody at the chosen roles), `input_problem` (a refused input, with the field named), `error` (nothing charged).

The **Output tab** has four views: *Overview*, *Hiring signal*, *Decision makers* and *Preview & breakdown*.

### FAQ

#### What counts as "hiring now"?

An employer appears when it posted at least one job matching your titles in the chosen window (last week, month or 3 months) in the chosen country. `matchingJobs` and `openMatching` count those postings; `openJobs` and `jobs7d` / `jobs30d` / `jobs90d` describe the employer's hiring across all titles, so you can tell a company adding one role from one on a hiring spree.

#### Why are staffing agencies left out, and how are they recognised?

Because they post on behalf of other companies: the employer you want to call is the one that will interview, not the agency. Two rules, both on by default: the employer's industry is staffing or recruiting (on the posting or on the employer's own card: an agency's postings often carry its client's industry), or its card describes it as a recruitment firm, search firm or staffing agency, or it is one of the job-board aggregators that post millions of listings a month; and the employer has far more postings than employees (at least 200 open, or 100 posted in the last 30 days, and more than two per employee). Measured on 26 October 2026 in the United States, the second rule is what removed a recruiting firm with 1,663 employees and 8,726 open postings and an aggregator with 474 employees and 4,816, while the largest genuine employers stay under one open posting per employee. On 27 October in the United Kingdom the card and the 30-day pace removed six recruiting firms of 34 to 143 people from the top 25, each with 140 to 772 roles posted in a month. `excludeAgencies: false` brings them all back.

#### How fresh is the data?

The database holds the last 180 days of postings and is reloaded after each data update, not on a clock. Every row's `_input.dataAsOf` is the date of the newest posting at the time of your run.

#### Who counts as a decision maker, and how are they ranked?

Founders and owners, the C-level, VPs and directors, as their current title on record says. Rows are ordered founder + CEO first, then other founders and CEOs, the rest of the C-level, VPs, directors; assistants, chiefs of staff and "Office of the CEO" staff are removed, and each person appears once. For companies above roughly 5,000 employees the first rows are mostly regional and divisional heads, and the row says so in `_note`.

#### Am I charged when nothing is found?

No. A search that matches no employer, an employer with nobody at the chosen roles and a refused input are free rows with a `_status` and an explanation. Only `found` rows are charged.

#### Does it need cookies, a login or an API key?

No. The Actor does not sign in to any website and asks for no credentials.

### Use Companies Hiring Now with AI agents and MCP

This Actor works as a tool for AI agents. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any other MCP client through the Apify MCP server:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=b2bsearch/hiring-companies-finder
```

- **Fast enough for a tool call.** A small request finishes in seconds, so the agent gets its answer inside one call.
- **The agent pays only for results.** Prices are per result (see the pricing section above) and every miss is a free row. Cap what one call may spend with `maxTotalChargeUsd`.
- **Count first.** `previewOnly: true` tells the agent how many employers match and how they break down, for free.
- **Rows explain themselves.** Each row has a `_status` and a `_type`; a row that is not a result says why in `_error`.
- **Bounded cost.** `maxCompanies` and `decisionMakersPerCompany` cap what one call can deliver and bill.

Input an agent can send as is:

```json
{
  "jobTitles": ["account executive"],
  "locations": ["United States"],
  "postedLimit": "month",
  "maxCompanies": 10
}
```

The same Actor is available as a tool in LangChain, CrewAI and the OpenAI Agents SDK, and as a step in n8n, Make and Zapier through the Apify integrations.

### Free Apify plan

A run started from a free Apify plan delivers the first 100 results and stops;
the run's status line says so. Any paid Apify plan lifts the cap. The rows are
the same rows a paid run returns.

### Feedback and reviews

How did it go? A rating in the **Reviews** tab of this Actor tells the next
buyer what to expect; we read every word, good or bad. Got a wrong or stale
row? Open the **Issues** tab with the run ID. Issues are public, so leave out
emails, phones and names; the run ID is enough for us to find the row. We
check every report, fix what is ours to fix and answer in the thread.
