## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Company Lookup: LEI (GLEIF), SEC EDGAR filings and financials

Resolve a company by **name, ticker, LEI or CIK** and get one record that combines **GLEIF legal-entity data** and **SEC EDGAR filings and financials**. No login, no API key.

### What does Company Lookup do?

- GLEIF: LEI, legal name, jurisdiction, legal and HQ address, entity and registration status, direct and ultimate parent LEIs (worldwide).
- SEC EDGAR: CIK, ticker, SIC industry, fiscal year end.
- Recent filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K...) with links; choose forms and count.
- Latest annual key financials from XBRL (revenue, net income, assets...).
- One output item per input entry, with an `errors` list for failed calls.

### Why use it

- **Two official free sources merged**, linking LEI to CIK and ticker.
- **Global coverage via GLEIF**, US depth via SEC.
- **Low price**: $4 per 1,000 companies.
- **No API keys**; follows SEC fair-access identification.

### Use cases

- KYB and counterparty due diligence.
- CRM enrichment with LEI, address and industry.
- Corporate hierarchy mapping through parent LEIs.
- SEC filing monitoring for a watchlist.
- Linking LEI to CIK/ticker in data pipelines.

### How to use

1. Open the Actor on Apify and click **Try for free** (or call it through the API).
2. List **companies** by name, ticker, LEI or CIK and set your own `secUserAgent` contact.
3. Click **Start**, then download the dataset as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read it through the API.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "companies": ["Apple Inc.", "W38RGI023J3WT1HWRP32", "MSFT", "789019"],
  "includeFilings": true,
  "filingForms": ["10-K", "10-Q", "8-K"],
  "maxFilings": 5,
  "includeFinancials": true,
  "includeParents": true,
  "secUserAgent": "Your Company admin@yourcompany.com"
}
```

**Set `secUserAgent` to your own contact** (SEC fair-access policy requires it). The actor stays under 5 requests/second to SEC.

### Output example

}
```
### Pricing
Pay per event, no subscription. You pay only for what is returned:
| Event | Price per 1,000 | 1,000 | 10,000 | 100,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| company | $4.00 | $4.00 | $40.00 | $400.00 |
Example: 1,000 companies cost $4.00; 10,000 cost $40.00.
Platform usage (compute) is included in the event price; there is nothing else to pay for.
### Integrations & API
Run it from code with the Apify API. Replace `<APIFY_TOKEN>` with your API token.
**Python** (`pip install apify-client`)
```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient

client = ApifyClient("<APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("bachiembmt/company-lookup-gleif-sec-edgar").call(run_input={"companies": ["Apple Inc.", "MSFT"], "includeFilings": True, "maxFilings": 5, "includeFinancials": True, "secUserAgent": "Your Company admin@yourcompany.com"})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```
**cURL** (run synchronously and get dataset items)
```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/bachiembmt~company-lookup-gleif-sec-edgar/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<APIFY_TOKEN>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"companies": ["Apple Inc.", "MSFT"], "includeFilings": true, "maxFilings": 5, "includeFinancials": true, "secUserAgent": "Your Company admin@yourcompany.com"}'
```
Works with:
- **Make** and **Zapier**: use the Apify app/module to run this Actor and pass the dataset on.
- **n8n**: use the Apify node or an HTTP Request node with the API call above.
- **Google Sheets**: export the dataset as CSV, or use the Apify integration to append rows automatically.
- **Webhooks**: trigger your own endpoint when a run finishes; combine with Apify schedules for recurring jobs.
- **AI agents**: expose the Actor as a tool through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com).
### FAQ
**Why is a field null?**
The source does not publish it for that entity; failed calls are listed in `errors`.
**How accurate is name matching?**
Name matching is best-effort (exact normalized name preferred). Use LEI, CIK or ticker for certainty.
**Do non-US companies work?**
Yes via GLEIF; SEC data only exists for SEC registrants, and IFRS filers may have empty `financials`.
**Do I need an account or API key for the source?**
No. The Actor needs no login or source API key. You only need an Apify account to run it.
**Is it legal to scrape this data?**
GLEIF data is CC0 and SEC EDGAR is public domain; the Actor follows both rate and identification policies. No personal data is collected. This is general information, not legal advice.
### Limitations
- Name matching: SEC by ticker / exact (normalized) name / name prefix; GLEIF by legal name (best hit, exact name preferred). Use LEI, CIK or ticker for certainty.
- SEC data only for SEC registrants; non-US companies without SEC filings return GLEIF data only. A LEI-only input is linked to SEC only on exact legal-name match.
- Financials are US-GAAP annual (10-K/20-F/40-F) values; IFRS filers may return empty `financials`.
- Parent LEIs exist only when the company reported them to GLEIF.
