## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Extension & Plugin Reviews Scraper: Chrome, Firefox, VS Code, WordPress

Scrape **Chrome extension, Firefox add-on, VS Code and WordPress plugin reviews** plus listing stats in one unified schema. No login, no API key.

### What does Extension & Plugin Reviews Scraper do?

- Reviews from Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, VS Code Marketplace and WordPress.org plugins.
- Store auto-detected from URLs, Chrome ids or `publisher.extension` (VS Code).
- Review fields: rating, title, text, date, version where available, helpful count (Chrome) and developer reply.
- Optional item records: users/installs, average rating, rating count, version, last update.
- Filter reviews with `minDate`.

| Store | Reviews | Item details | Limit per item |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chrome Web Store | yes | no (client-side only) | ~10 newest (server-rendered page) |
| Firefox Add-ons | yes | yes | unlimited (API pagination) |
| VS Code Marketplace | yes | yes | unlimited (pagination by date) |
| WordPress.org plugins | yes | yes | 30 newest (RSS feed) |

### Why use it

- **Four ecosystems, one schema.**
- **Versioned reviews** (where the store provides it) to spot release regressions.
- **Low price**: $0.50 per 1,000 reviews, $2 per 1,000 item records.
- **No login, API key or proxy.**

### Use cases

- Competitor and rating monitoring for extensions and plugins.
- Release-regression alerts using the review `version`.
- Feature-request and churn mining from review text.
- Install-base tracking with item records.
- Market research across extension stores.

### How to use

1. Open the Actor on Apify and click **Try for free** (or call it through the API).
2. Paste extension/plugin URLs or ids into **Extensions / plugins**.
3. Click **Start**, then download the dataset as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read it through the API.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "items": [
    "https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm",
    "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/",
    "ms-python.python",
    "https://wordpress.org/plugins/akismet/"
  ],
  "maxReviewsPerItem": 10,
  "minDate": "2026-01-01",
  "includeItemDetails": true
}
```

The store is auto-detected from URLs, a 32-letter Chrome id or `publisher.extension` (VS Code). Bare Firefox/WordPress slugs need a prefix: `firefox:ublock-origin`, `wordpress:akismet`. Reviews are always newest first.

### Output example

Review (event `review`):

```json
{"store":"wordpress","itemId":"akismet","itemName":"Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection","reviewId":"respect-18","author":"Samiullah Stanikzai","rating":5,"title":"RESPECT","text":"...","date":"2026-09-13T19:41:24+00:00","version":null,"helpful":null,"developerReply":null,"url":"https://wordpress.org/support/topic/respect-18/"}
```

Item (event `item`, only if `includeItemDetails`):

```json
{"type":"item","store":"firefox","itemId":"ublock-origin","name":"uBlock Origin","publisher":"Raymond Hill","users":11328708,"ratingAvg":4.802,"ratingCount":22230,"version":"1.75.0","updatedAt":"2026-10-19T19:46:29Z","url":"https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/"}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription. You pay only for what is returned:

| Event | Price per 1,000 | 1,000 | 10,000 | 100,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| review | $0.50 | $0.50 | $5.00 | $50.00 |
| item record | $2.00 | $2.00 | $20.00 | $200.00 |

Example: 1,000 reviews cost $0.50; 10,000 cost $5.00.

Example: 10 extensions with 100 reviews each plus item details = 1,000 x $0.0005 + 10 x $0.002 = $0.52.

Platform usage (compute) is included in the event price; there is nothing else to pay for.

### Integrations & API

Run it from code with the Apify API. Replace `<APIFY_TOKEN>` with your API token.

**Python** (`pip install apify-client`)

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("bachiembmt/extension-plugin-reviews-scraper").call(run_input={"items": ["https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/", "ms-python.python"], "maxReviewsPerItem": 10, "includeItemDetails": True})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```

**cURL** (run synchronously and get dataset items)

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/bachiembmt~extension-plugin-reviews-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<APIFY_TOKEN>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"items": ["https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/", "ms-python.python"], "maxReviewsPerItem": 10, "includeItemDetails": true}'
```

Works with:

- **Make** and **Zapier**: use the Apify app/module to run this Actor and pass the dataset on.
- **n8n**: use the Apify node or an HTTP Request node with the API call above.
- **Google Sheets**: export the dataset as CSV, or use the Apify integration to append rows automatically.
- **Webhooks**: trigger your own endpoint when a run finishes; combine with Apify schedules for recurring jobs.
- **AI agents**: expose the Actor as a tool through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com).

### FAQ

**How many reviews per store?**
Chrome: ~10 newest. Firefox and VS Code: effectively unlimited. WordPress: 30 newest (RSS feed).

**Why is the Chrome `itemName` empty?**
Chrome item details are client-side only; without a browser only reviews are available.

**Why is `text` null on some reviews?**
Many Firefox and VS Code reviews are rating-only.

**Do I need an account or API key for the source?**
No. The Actor needs no login or source API key. You only need an Apify account to run it.

**Is it legal to scrape this data?**
Only public pages and APIs are read; no personal contact data is collected. Review authors are public display names. This is general information, not legal advice.

### Limitations

- Chrome Web Store: only the ~10 newest reviews and no item details are available without a browser; `itemName` is empty.
- WordPress.org: RSS feed exposes 30 newest reviews, no plugin version per review; `users` is Wordpress's bucketed active installs; ratings may be star-only.
- Firefox/VS Code: many reviews are rating-only (`text` null). `helpful` is only available on Chrome. Replies are returned when the store provides them.
- Polite rate (1 request/second); failing items are logged and skipped.
