## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper: Trending Now by country

Scrape **Google Trends "Trending now"** for any country: keyword, search volume, % increase, start time, related queries, categories and news. No login, no API key.

### What does Google Trends Scraper do?

- Daily trending searches for any country Google supports (about 120).
- Search-volume bucket as an integer, % increase, start/end time and active status.
- Related queries, categories and an Explore link per trend.
- News articles for the top trends of each country (from Google's RSS feed).
- Filters: time window (4, 24, 48 or 168 hours), categories, `activeOnly`.
- Use `onlyNew` to dedupe across scheduled runs.

### Why use it

- **No proxy, no cookies, no 429s**: uses the public Trending Now endpoints only.
- **Many countries in one run.**
- **Fast**: a default run (US + VN, ~200 trends) takes about 10 seconds.
- **Low price**: $1.50 per 1,000 trends.

### Use cases

- SEO and content teams finding what people search for right now.
- Newsroom and social-media trend alerts (schedule + `onlyNew`).
- Market research comparing trending topics across countries.
- Ecommerce and ads teams spotting spikes by category.
- Daily trend datasets for dashboards or LLM prompts.

### How to use

1. Open the Actor on Apify and click **Try for free** (or call it through the API).
2. Choose **countries**, a **time window** and optional **categories**.
3. Click **Start**, then download the dataset as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read it through the API.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "countries": ["US", "VN", "DE"],
  "hours": "24",
  "categories": ["Sports", "Technology"],
  "includeNews": true,
  "onlyNew": false,
  "maxItemsPerCountry": 100
}
```

- `countries` - Google geo codes (default `US`, `VN`). Examples: AR AT AU BE BR CA CH CL CO CZ DE DK EG ES FI FR GB GR HK HU ID IE IL IN IT JP KE KR MX MY NG NL NO NZ PE PH PL PT RO RU SA SE SG TH TR TW UA US VN ZA (about 120 countries are supported by Google; an unsupported code logs a WARN and returns nothing).
- `hours` - `4`, `24`, `48` or `168` (Google's windows).
- `categories` - filter: Autos and Vehicles, Beauty and Fashion, Business and Finance, Entertainment, Food and Drink, Games, Health, Hobbies and Leisure, Jobs and Education, Law and Government, Other, Pets and Animals, Politics, Science, Shopping, Sports, Technology, Travel and Transportation, Climate.
- `activeOnly` - skip trends that already ended.
- `includeNews` - attach news articles (see limitations).
- `onlyNew` - dedupe across runs using the named key-value store `google-trends-seen` (entries expire after 8 days). `maxItemsPerCountry` is applied after dedupe.

### Output example

```json
{
  "country": "US",
  "keyword": "heavyweight",
  "approxTraffic": 100,
  "increasePercent": 100,
  "startedAt": "2026-10-21T09:40:00+00:00",
  "endedAt": null,
  "active": true,
  "relatedQueries": ["ufc heavyweight"],
  "categories": ["Sports"],
  "news": [{"title": "...", "url": "https://...", "source": "Sherdog", "image": "https://...", "published": null}],
  "image": "https://...",
  "exploreUrl": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=heavyweight&geo=US&date=now%207-d"
}
```

`approxTraffic` is Google's search-volume bucket as an integer ("200+" -> 200, "50K+" -> 50000, "2M+" -> 2000000).

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription. You pay only for what is returned:

| Event | Price per 1,000 | 1,000 | 10,000 | 100,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| trend | $1.50 | $1.50 | $15.00 | $150.00 |

Example: 1,000 trends cost $1.50; 10,000 cost $15.00.

Platform usage (compute) is included in the event price; there is nothing else to pay for.

### Integrations & API

Run it from code with the Apify API. Replace `<APIFY_TOKEN>` with your API token.

**Python** (`pip install apify-client`)

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("bachiembmt/google-trends-trending-now").call(run_input={"countries": ["US", "DE"], "hours": "24", "includeNews": True, "maxItemsPerCountry": 100})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```

**cURL** (run synchronously and get dataset items)

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/bachiembmt~google-trends-trending-now/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<APIFY_TOKEN>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"countries": ["US", "DE"], "hours": "24", "includeNews": true, "maxItemsPerCountry": 100}'
```

Works with:

- **Make** and **Zapier**: use the Apify app/module to run this Actor and pass the dataset on.
- **n8n**: use the Apify node or an HTTP Request node with the API call above.
- **Google Sheets**: export the dataset as CSV, or use the Apify integration to append rows automatically.
- **Webhooks**: trigger your own endpoint when a run finishes; combine with Apify schedules for recurring jobs.
- **AI agents**: expose the Actor as a tool through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com).

### FAQ

**Does it include interest over time (Explore charts)?**
No. Google blocks that with HTTP 429 for datacenter traffic, so this Actor covers Trending Now only.

**Why is a country empty?**
Google does not offer Trending Now for every geo code; check the warning in the log.

**Why are some `news` arrays empty?**
News comes from an RSS feed that covers only the top ~10-20 trends per country.

**Do I need an account or API key for the source?**
No. The Actor needs no login or source API key. You only need an Apify account to run it.

**Is it legal to scrape this data?**
Only public Trending Now data is read, at about 1 request per second. Respect Google's terms of service. This is general information, not legal advice.

### Limitations

- News articles come from Google's Trending Now RSS feed, which only covers the top ~10-20 trends per country; other trends have `news: []`. `published` is null (Google does not provide it).
- Interest-over-time (the Explore charts) is not included: Google blocks it with HTTP 429 for datacenter traffic.
- If Google changes the batchexecute format, the actor falls back to RSS-only (no categories, related queries or status) and logs a WARN.
- Public data only, about 1 request per second.
